Anyone from Nebraska is gonna get an inferiority complex.
Navada will feel superior.

z28jd 02-08-2013 08:21 AM

What is the difference between the first Navada and the second Navada? Is the first one East Navada?

I was born in northern NJ, now live in central Jersey on 5 acres in a town called Middle of Nowhere

What if you lived in Whyoming? Not only did you get left off the poll, you also live in Whyoming!

Grew up in the Midwest (St. Charles, IL), went to college in Iowa, and came to PA for grad school about two centuries ago. Live in West Chester, PA, root for the Phillies, and never miss a Cubs game in Philadelphia. Once a Cubs fan, always.......

I thought Whyoming was annexed by Utah -- and someone must be living in their own private Idaho.

Born in northwestern PA, grew up in the Imperial Valley and San Bernardino, where we did steal Norcal water. Escaped to the Eastern Sierras where everyone steals our water. That is OK, we like wide open spaces and no land available to Bay area or Socal developers. The downside is the closest card shop is in Reno, and the only show up here is Mule Days, sh@t boy howdy. Oh yeah. A great place to build and fish bamboo rods.

To Calli or not to Calli

Why does Navada get the option of throwing in with us here in Calli, or blowing us off and throwing in with Utah, Col, KS?

Yes it is true, southern Calli (SoCal) steals our water up here in northern Calli (NorCal).

Not much water to be found in the Imperial Valley (does Sultan Sea count?). I know first hand as I've had the privilege of spending several July days (weeks) in Brawley/El Centro... highs were 116 during day, lows about 112 at night. Awesome!

Andy, Kenny & Casey,

I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana now, so I guess I would fit in on the pole between Ill and Ohio; but I grew up in Moore, OK in the 80s. I used to ride my bike from off of 4th street by the hospital in Moore all the way to the south side off OKC off of Western Ave. to Roger Neufeldt's Sports Memories. I still enjoy saying hi to Roger every National. Used to love beating the Norman Tigers in sports. Go Lions!

Kenny Cole 02-08-2013 06:49 PM

LOL, when I was in law school in the mid-80s, Roger's shop was just off I-240 & Western in south OKC. Then he moved it to Norman, which was pretty handy for me. He's shut down the store, per se, but he still has a warehouse with an office in it where you can occasionally catch him and look at cards. I also see him at church every once in a while.

+0.5.. My dad is from Enid, OK and went to OU during their epic win streak. As a 13 year old kid he watched 18 year old Mickey Mantle, then with the Joplin Miners play his hometown Giants. I now have the signed team ball he got that day with Mantle on the sweet spot.

I'm from Belfast, Northern Ireland and that was and will always be my only home. I grew up during the height of "the troubles" here.

I currently live & work in central London (closest thing in a US-context would be Manhattan), although have lived other places - such as Makati, the CBD of Manila, Philippines.

In terms of US, I travel to San Diego, CA an average of 2 / 3 times a year and also try to travel to NYC often as I love Manhattan and the Yankees (next trip there is mid-May, although will only see the Yankees once vs Toronto 19th May).

I'm not a baseball fan.

My sport is football ("soccer" in US terms) and I support Crusaders, a small team from Belfast and, in national terms, the Northern Ireland national team - which is a bit of a David versus Goliath task as Northern Ireland has one of the smallest populations on the earth.

However, I have an admiration for baseball history which started initially in the 1990s through a liking of vintage World Series program covers (here in the UK, programmes are the main collectible - bit like cards in US terms). It grew into an admiration for the 1920s Yankees and, day-by-day, I become more interested in the 1920s Yankees .... and some of the later Yankees players such as Di Maggio, Mantle, Martin etc but it's mainly the Yankees of Ruth, Gehrig and Lazzeri.

So I don't love baseball per se ..... but I love early 20th century NY Yankees and all the good and bad that they represent. I can name many stats / figures / issues of history from the Yankees of the 1920s but could barely name a thing or player of the modern day NY Yankees and I'm happy with that.

That said, I still love NYC and watch the Yankees when I can (next game versus Toronto in May).

ps - I always thought I was just a Yankees observer and not a fan as I'd never disliked the Red Sox - in fact, I always used to like picking up old Red Sox programs. Then, my long-term partner (and fiancee) dumped me for a Red Sox fan ..... the rest is history :)

Smart woman!! :) just kidding. I'm a Tigers fan who dislikes the Yanks very much. BUT, we have a common love for soccer. I was born in Germany so my allegiance lies in the Bundesliga ..... but I know where you are coming from nonetheless. I catch as many U.S. matches as possible. Just saw them in a qualifier against Jamaica in Columbus, Ohio last fall. Always a good time.

I'm also a pretty big Arsenal supporter out of the EPL. Here in the states most of the English Premiere league matches are televised.

I'll have to start keeping an eye on the Crusaders!

oh, and to answer the question of the thread :) ..... i was born in Germany, moved to Ohio in 1980, moved out to California for college, lived in Indiana for awhile, but now I am back in the Black Swamp.
