Words I hate to hear in our hobby.......
After showing off a new card for my collection- When I am asked- "You thought it was real"?
and yours...... . |
Ill play Leon
HAY GUYS AN OPINION ON THIS AUTOGRAPH PLEASE:rolleyes::rolleyes:
"Beckett says it's worth $200, but it's yours for $150."
"You wont win that card.. Wonka's going after it" :)
"You mean you never heard about the big find of those...??"
"Did you see the Blue Old Mill?"
Jamie too funny, I only wish I was half the heavy hitter you think I am. ;) |
Let me get out my price guide....
"This is a rare item"
"Oh, I sold that to Johnny (MRVSTR) a while ago"
....grandfather's attic:D
VCP says...
You have been outbid by "X"...Don't let it get away (Usually hits my inbox after the auction has closed)
Wonka.. thought you would get a kick outta that one.. Chris, Johnny and I have thrown that phrase around a couple times..:)
Chris.. you've heard that one too! Johnny stop hoarding the errors! I heard Johnny has so many errors... when you look at his collection... you'll think the normal card is the weird looking one... :) |
"Representative image, not actual product."
"clothing optional"
Should be graded higher.
Mine
"You bought this?" - "Appears to be a fake!"
Tony |
Line
"PSA2 - MUCH NICER"
(a few list every card as "NICER" and "MUCH NICER" - do you put "WORSE" and "MUCH WORSE" on those overgraded..?) |
rare for the grade
"Blazer!!" or "Book" Value
"nice card...too bad it's trimmed!"

"I've got some vintage 80's and 90's cards I would like you to check out."
Brian |
"High book is X" even when the card is missing a corner and is drawn on.
Everytime I show someone a card, it's the same question..."How much did you pay for it?"
"Taking offers"

The cards are in amazing condition given their age.
I sometimes have a hard time getting to the wording when the asking price is three steps beyond hallucination.
I don't care what VCP says.
"Didn't you wait for your change?"

"Low Pop!!!!" to describe a 50's or 60's common PSA 8 - when the population is greater than 50+ on a PSA 8 common.
(I consider population below 10 to be low pop) |
It's a tie between "Where is your Babe Ruth card" and the disappointed "Oh" after I tell people he isn't in a set I collect. A close second place would be "What's your most expensive card" which is apparently a requisite for non-collectors to ask.
When I'm looking at a card and ask the dealer how much. They say how much do you want to pay ? They get real mad when I say I don't want to pay anything for it. :p
When I make an offer and the seller says "The book value is".
When someone says, "Rube who????"
...rare...

"There's a great Cobb in Mastro's new auction."
Already said before but when people say
"LOW POP" It makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit, especially when it is like a 1916 zeenut graded a 2 just because only 3 cards have ever been graded of that player. Rhys |
As a former store owner the words I didn't want to hear were, "I used to have all these cards as a kid, but my mom threw them away." If I heard it once, I heard it a million times.
From a seller: "I paid ..... for it."
When I was living in Nepal if a shop owner started down that road, I would cut them off and say, "If you tell me what you paid, I am walking out the door and never returning." Once they resort to that, it is almost impossible to go lower and often the number is not true. JimB |
on ebay, "+++++++++++"
I've never understood why PSA and SGC don't add those to their grades. ;) JimB |

My Wife made them all Float!
Actions speak louder than words...
-Whips out phone to check e-bay and VCP to offer 1/5th the previous sale- |
ME: Why so much for this card? It's a 1.
Dealer: But it has NM corners. ---- You didn't see that go for half of what you paid on Kevin Savage Auctions? |
A big +1 to whomever wrote..
Let me check the price guide. Yuk |

a few of the ones that made me chuckle- "My wife made them all float" And on the guy pulling out a smartphone to check VCP, a guy did that to me at the last national. I had a T213-2 in a 5 holder (very rare, well, .....not really but sort of high grade ....anyway).....He checks VCP and sees exactly when and where I bought the card he is haggling on. It was like $225 and he saw my markup was $17.....I told him since he checked it we can now negotiate up since he knows I wasn't making squat. He bought the card. Nice ones so far guys!! I knew this would probably be an amusing thread....and ever since the Goldin thread I can't get "You'll GET A MCQUWIRE ROOKIE" out of my head....da** it. |
Hate to hear

The word "poppage" makes me puke.

Worthless information, such as "only 1 of 4 at this level, with only 7 graded higher."
Who TF cares!?! |
I hate when friends that know nothing about collecting say to me, "Your collection is all MINT, right?" and then they look down on you when say no, and i cant get them to understand that if my collection was mint it would be worth an insane fortune and I would have had to be Bill Gates to buy all those mint cards.
Also how i love it when you see a card advertised with the person having a feedback of 3 on Ebay and he says "I know nothing about baseball cards and he is selling a Goudey Ruth or something similar". |

"You collect baseball cards right", "I have some I'd like you to take a look at" In 20+ years I have been told this about 1000 times and it has NEVER been anything but Griffey rookies and 1987 topps or other worthless items like this and I HAVE TO BE THE ONE to tell them they are not worth anything and to save them for their kids! |
