Cool cards, Matt! I recall seeing that Johnson before, but I
don't remember the story behind it. Is that a blank-backed, hand cut proof card which was given to Johnson? Thanks for sharing the scans, and whatever info you might have. |

favorite cards:
Baseball: I tend to think of favorite baseball cards not in terms of rarity or value but in terms of where I was in life when I got them. I pulled the Aaron from a pack in 1976, have had the T206 Johnson since I was 12, and the Dropo is the first old card I got (probably got it when I was 10 or 11). http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...76%20Aaron.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...on%20ready.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ps%20Dropo.jpg Nonsports: Easiest to choose of all categories. I'd wanted a good Connery autograph for years before I got one, Shatner/Kirk 'nuf ced, and the Marx Bros are not only favorites but the card is from a rare theatrical set from 1926 and is the only example I've seen. http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...rge/74998a.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...%20Shatner.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...arx%20Bros.jpg Boxing: One of my cousin, one of my favorite, one of "the greatest of all time"; the latter two are 1 of 1, as I've never seen another of either: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...Miller%203.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ng%20Fists.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...eli%20Clay.jpg |

I had fully intended to post on this thread, but after seeing what every body else is bringing to the table, I'll just sit in the locker room until the varsity is out of the showers:o
Wonka-The Plank is just stinkin gorgeous. I was oogling that thing like it was a Cindy Crawford pinup |

Here a few of my favorites :

It depends on what day I am asked, but these are my favorites today. The Lajoie is my favorite T206 pose and was one of my first two T206s that I got when I was 12 years old. The Cobb is an e93. I should probably post it on the big border thread too.

Great thread!
Congrats on landing that '21 Voskamps, Leon! It's the only one I know of. I remember being shell-shocked when I saw that one in person a couple years ago (since I only knew about the earlier Voskamps Coffee set prior to seeing that one). Great, great card! |
I think this thread just reinforces for myself why I chose to go the vintage route. Great stuff guys!
|
Thanks Brian. Your E107 Wagner and Young are not a bad pair!

Like many others, it's very hard to pick just 3. So i picked 3 with the same image, for today's post. If the thread is still alive next week. I'll pick a different player.

This thread makes my head spin! I've scrolled through this one top-to-bottom at least 10 times and every time a different card catches my eye.
Out of my humble contribution, the top two never change. There is about a 10-way tie for the number three spot, but today I'll occupy that slot with the oldest card I own. <img width="500" border="0" src="http://www.richardarmstrong.ca/baseball/Voskamp_Gibson.jpg"> <img width="500" border="0" src="http://www.richardarmstrong.ca/baseball/Toronto/C46_1_OHara.jpg"> <img width="500" border="0" src="http://www.richardarmstrong.ca/baseball/Toronto/N172_Serad.jpg"> Regards, Richard. |
