April 2011 - Pick-up Thread
Just got these back from SGC/JSA this afternoon. A beautiful fountain-pen signed T206 Blackburne. This makes 37 different autographed T206 poses for my collection -- now just 13 short of my near-impossible goal of 50. This is also the only autographed Minor League T206 card I own -- Blackburne and Cravath may be the only ones possible. And it's the only signed Sovereign that I own as well.

This one came from ebay last week. <a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/lclhrhKZImA-a2Clb9EG6DiJm_Z5QsNdec5_I7WHZRE?feat=embedwebsite" ><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_Ys7fw31kTDs/TZaJgAQLz4I/AAAAAAAAI8U/lvbblQgsi5c/s800/LivingtonAutoPSADNA.jpg" height="800" width="462" /></a> |

April Pick Up :

Hey Jeremy, I don't know what that is, but I like it.
|
Thanks Mike !

Thanks Mike ! The piece is a 1 of 1 Helmar Brewing Art piece. I have bought some odd and end pieces from Helmar Brewing (Charles Mandel) since they started putting out their beautiful art cards a few years back and while it is not vintage, Charles & Team put a lot of work and craftmenship into every piece they make and this die cut cabinet was right up my alley since I collect Nashville/Tennessee Type material/Southern League stuff. The piece measures about 5x6 and has tremendous detail to both the front and back. Also, I like the fact that Charles will not make another like this, so it makes it a bit exclusive. Even though 99% of what I collect is vintage material, I like to stray as a collector... Helmar is creative and brings joy to my collecting. |
Thanks for the info Jeremy, vintage or not I like it too.
|
same here mike, jeremy those are neat!!

Glad at least someone I know got it...

Thanks Guys !
Larry - Mike - Joe,
Thanks for kind words. I find the piece amazing and thought it belonged on our vintage board due to it's relation to T206 poses of those 6 Tn players. By the way, Helmar Brewing just ran a few more similar auctions for the other Southern Leaguer's on Ebay. (Texas & Southern League Stars, Alabama Stars, etc.) The die cut cabinets were very similar to the one I have posted. There was also a Sally Die Cut with Joe on it that went for a strong price. Beautiful artwork... I have scans if anyone wants me to forward them (Or post them) Thanks, JJ |

My Dad called me over to his house and gave me these 2 as a gift. Aren't cards the best gift? The Merkle is an ad back and the Griffith a checklist back. I'll get them graded when I have the cash to do so!

tony,
nice to pick those up from your dad!! it's been 23 years ago on 4/8 that i last spoke to my dad, boy do i miss him!!:( Quote:

Hick Cady 1915 E145-2 Cracker Jack
1 Attachment(s)
This Hick Cady arrived in the mail this morning. It was graded Authentic by SGC which must have scared off a lot of buyers. I can't think of a better card for a lifetime Red Sox fan. The card softens the pain of the "lost weekend" in Texas for this year's Red Sox team.
A boardmember recently picked one up, and I then decided I should have this classic catcher pose card in my collection. Since there are only a handful of PCL cards left on my wantlist, and also only a few more cards on my type card list for the 7 major league catchers I collect, I have started adding a few beautiful examples of other major league players' cards such as the Bill Bergen E101 card as well as this Hick Cady card. Patrick |
Nice Cady, I happened to just pick up a Cady as well. Very rare Underwood postcard series...

Nice Underwood & Underwood PC
Jeff,
Congrats on picking up the Underwood & Underwood PC. It shows that the image on the Cracker Jack of Cady reflects what he truly looked like. Patrick |
Love that plowboy. Is silly playing on a roof?!
|
That Cady CrackerJack is sweet. Might even consider resubmitting it, worst case it comes back authentic again.

Lajoie with Bat
@Mikehealer - That's a sweet Nap. At a PSA 2, I'm guessing there's some kind of adhesive (or the like) on the back that accounts for the grade. Regardless, a beautiful card.

Jeff and vintagecather, nice Cady pickups.
Jeff: I waffled for a long time on that one in Mears. Nice pickup! Scotty: Thanks for the admiration on the Ramly. I love this issue and getting close to the Sox subset. Here is another one that I just picked up that is just like vintagecather's Cady as It is graded PSA authentic. Regards, Michael |

I'm happy for you Matthew that you got your Big Eaters card and a shout out to Brian T. for helping you find it. That's what this board can do and why it is so much more than merely a message board. :)

agreed

On the (Friday) night of the Net54Baseball dinner at the National, with 1 speaker already lined up, it certainly won't be "just a message board". I am firming up details now and should have a final update in the next few days....I think there will be a change of venue too....with an added bonus for a few people. regards |

A headless Boston 1888 Raphael Truck & Sons towards my set. All 6 of mine so far are headless. 4 more to go. For some reason, I really want to put together an all headless set. This is kinda my vintage goof set... Anyone got any headless Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit or Pittsburgh's that they wouldn't mind parting with for cheap?
Also picked up a double of the St. Louis for an extra $1.25. Headless, as well. Woohoo!!! |

I now at least have one card for every MLB Player HOF'er. 180 of them are what I would call acceptable RC's. This one isn't in great shape, but the image of Amos is pretty good and the price was right!
|
Nice pick up, Dan. That's a tough RC!

Hey Rob
Been seeing your Goudey pick ups for a long time. How close are you to completing one of the years(or more)? Frank |
A few more towards my 1928 Exhibit set. Figured I had better pick these up before Neal added them to his horizontal collection. :)
