Thank you. Most of the inside photos are small, with several per page, but there are a few nice pics, like the one of Jimmy Foxx attached here. The Williams and DiMaggio pics are small ones, unfortunately. The paper is semi-glossy, though, which is a pleasant surprise.

After having lost out on a Mathewson and Johnson over the last year or so, was very happy to add this PM1 to the collection...

What year were these produced? Thanks! |
Hi Scott,
Date of production is 1915. The strange thing is that there is a PM1 Ruth checklisted and I'm not sure why they would have included him at the beginning of his career. I have seen a copy of the Ruth pin and it definitely is his stance, facial resemblance not so much. The photo is definitely similar to other PM1 photos, so either the pin was probably produced slightly later than or possibly a fantasy piece. Mike |

Thanks for the info on these pieces. I have recently seen a couple of them on eBay (pne of them was Honus Wagner), but prior to that had never really seen them. They certainly are a nice looking set of pins. Very nice! In 1915, Ruth had actually begun to give baseball a glimpse of his talent, but primarily as a pitcher at this point. He was 18-8 with a 2.44 ERA and was already getting to be known as one of the better lefty pitchers in the American League. He wasn't yet known as a power hitter, but he did hit .315 which was pretty solid for a pitcher, with a handful of HR's. |

Picked these up in the clean sweep auction last night

If I remember correctly, the PM1 Ruth does not have his name at bottom. Don't all other PM1s have the name printed at bottom?

Jon,
Not all PM1's have the name at the bottom. I know of 4 others that don't (Archer, Baker, Bender, Kauff). But they also have a variation that does have their name at the bottom. Mike |
It seems my pickups these days are very few and far between, but when I saw this on eBay I was excited. With a little help and reassurance from Matt (Thanks Matt!) I put in my offer and got it. Being strictly a Cravath collector it's pretty cool to hold something that he clobbered homers with!

Carl Hubbell snapshot circa 1940
1 Attachment(s)
I picked up a nice snapshot of The Meal Ticket on eBay this evening. I love the stadium in the background and the lighting....

Quote:
You know that Hubbell is Graig's all time favorite player. Be ready to make a super high res scan for him or he's gonna pout like a six year old. |

I believe that Hubbell photo is from Wrigley Field. Sweet shot of King Carl!

Quote:
Thanks for the heads up on where you believe the photo was taken. I was wrestling with that and wasn't certain... Best, scott |
Quote:
It's funny, but I had exactly the same thoughts when I first looked at this snapshot. I'm not sure if you ever saw what Hubbell's left arm looked like at the end of his career, but it was amazing! His arm was so deformed that he couldn't allegedly rest it at his left side without the thumb and wrist twisting to the outside. |

One other Beatles piece was this Yellow Submarine 3 Ring Binder which is scarce in any condition. So I was thrilled to land this really nice example.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...uldhave005.jpg At the antique show a few weeks back I found an ornate pin with a religious subject still attached to the cardboard backer..I suspect the company was around for more than a few years so it's quite possible the Ruth was made well after the other PM1 pins. |
Baseball Figural
1 Attachment(s)
Just picked up this real neat 1940's era metal baseball figural. Thanks to Brock for posting this previously or I would have never known that it was the figural portion off of a tie rack. I probably overpaid because it is missing the tie rack portion, but thought it would look real cool in my display room.

Was able to pick up another tough Wagner pinback...1911 Diamond Gum.

Girl: Baby Boy, open the door Benny: I can't open the door, Im in my pajamas Girl: Why can't you open the door in your pajamas? Benny: Cause I ain't got no door in my Pajamas..haha. Another favorite character of his was Fred Scuttle. Hilarious stuff, and great pickup sir. |

I don't think I added one piece to my Kansas collection last year but have already made up for it this year. Picked up a Zeenut of Hugh Mcmullen from Lacygne, Ks, a Holyrood,Ks rppc, a rppc from 1942 Ft. Riley, Ks, a 1914 Wichita Witches rppc of Buck Jones and an envelope of the Wichita Braves plus contract. Plus I still have a couple more items coming in.

Thanks Jimmy, I liked it too.
Here's a couple more pickups I just got in the mail. 1908 Walter Boles Topeka, Ks rppc I got thanks to Ed Morse. I also got this huge 1917 Giants postcard. I've been looking for a Thorpe photo or card for awhile but they've all been too expensive. Thorpe attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Ks before moving on to fame at Carlisle. It also has Joe Wilhoit, fellow Kansan, as a bonus. I picked this up thanks to Matt Wieder. |
Wow Clint, you are on a roll!! Check your email, I just sent you a link to an interesting photo.
|
Thanks Dan, an extra set of eyes is always nice. Yeah hopefully the roll isn't over.

Scorecard from 6/17/1879. I've been looking for a Ross Barnes item from his one season in Cincinnati. Now I've got it. Note Mike Kelly is penciled into the Cincinnati lineup. This was his second major league season.

That's too funny... Hunt's didn't even picture the better side of the two. Had I seen that reverse side , I might have given you a run for your money. VERY cool/rare pennant.... congrats! |

Here's a piece I've been eyeballing for about a decade... and finally landed one! Neat Victorian Napkin Ring dates to the 1880s-90s, with boy holding a Ring Bat and wearing a "Boater Style" Cap...

And Rob, congrats on the pennant. A real killer piece! |
Rod Carew Banner Pennant
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a Rod Carew banner pennant that I recently picked up. I am very happy to add it to my collection. I would love to get the similar Harmon Killebrew banner pennant. I have to thank a dealer friend of mine for making it happen.
|
Nice Carew Banner/Pennant... congrats!
That style is so tough to find. The Twins did some really unique stuff in the mid-late sixties, and that one is a perfect example. Best of luck finding the Killebrew. It may be a long hunt... please let us know if you are able to tack one down! |
Quote:
|
Yeah... I guess so. Just checked and saw what you paid for it...
It's funny how some of these pennants have been selling by at prices equivalent to 10-year lows. But when one comes along that you really want, seems like it's just as costly as ever to win it. Anyway, it's an ultra-tough one, and possibly unique. So I still think you did great for what you paid  |

Finally picked up a 1953 Chiefs program...it's been eluding me for a decade...got the bonus Western League managers and ump bios booklet with it..the name at the top indicates it belonged to Jack Hyland who was the radio play by play man for the Chiefs.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ll/chiefs2.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...l/chiefs-1.jpg |
Awesome Dan, way to go. I've got one Wichita Indians program to go so I know how tough it can be.
|
Only one left to go?? That's amazing. I'm still looking for 1951, 1954, 1956, 1957, 1959 and 1960. I'm not sure if I'll ever find one from 1906-1939 so I don't count those.
|
Well the Wichita Indians were only there from 1950-1955. I have all of the Wichita Braves from 1956-1958. So it's not that big of a run. I've only found one Wichita program earlier than these. You would think more would turn up.
|
Congrats Gary, that is a fantastic early scorecard.

not quite vintage but just a follow-up to my "noob ted williams" thread...i got my 2nd ted auto today, from his own defunct card company.
http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...cards/will.jpg |
Nice card, Chad...
He really had a knack for signing in the perfect spot. The diagonal signature between the two images of Ted was the perfect way to sign... very attractive. Mike: Be sure to bring that Mug to the National this year. I will bring mine too, and we can knock down a few beers after the show. :p Hard to believe there was a time when these were actually used for that (and not just admired/displayed). Great pickup!! |
