January 2011 Pickup Thread
1 Attachment(s)
Usually these threads get started with something impressive...but I thought I would start 2011 off with a whimper. Thanks Rhett for the worst card ever! (I knew it was the worst before receiving it).
Brian |
Brian, I don't know if I want my name associated with that card!:D
|
Is that fossil (card?) from the Triassic or Jurassic period? :D

Nice McTitus
http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...ll/McTitus.jpg That Zeenut looks like it might be an old Modoc spear tip Rhett found up there in Shasta County. I'd have it carbon dated. Might be valuable. |

Present from the in-laws (along w/ a frame). Having fun w/ the wife putting it together. Not a card collector, on the memorabilia side. Maybe this will get me hooked! Just a really cool gift. I'm very blessed to truly have very very special in-laws. They are absolutely wonderful. Happy New Year all!

David,
I'm no card guy, but I would crack that card out. It looks really undergraded. Mark Quote:

I am very happy to have landed this Tolstoi Eddie Collins last night on ebay. After looking for a long time and talking to you folks, I did not think this card was really out there. I am pretty sure it just down to the American Beauty now, sure hope a BL 350 doesn't pop up next week!
Thanks to some folks that took it easy on me with this card! I've long appreciated Lefty O'Doul and can't for the life of me understand why he isn't in the Hall of Fame...and this is my favorite card of him. Considering I had about $38 in eBay Bucks, this one only cost me about $50. I'm pretty pleased...

That Meyers back collection is awesome....
Here was my exciting $20 pre-war pickup. For some reason I just like this random card--I guess it's the sweater/hat and he seems to be content being a ball player. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...lpm/Herzog.jpg |

Nice grabs, Calvin. How did that Chase just grade a 2? It looks more like a 5!
|
Cheapies...but if you put them in a nice holder...they do have some eye appeal. Still have a couple of 1941 Wheaties holder left...anyone got a couple to spare?

These certainly aren't New to me, but I sent a bunch of E98s that were raw or PSA to be graded by SGC to match the others in my collection. I was particulary pleased that my Collins Old Put Back received a 30 ;and my Dooin was Authenticated as an Old Put Back even in Dog Chew Toy Condition:p

Here are two postcards I got in the mail today. I believe both are ca. 1912. The first one shows a shortstop wearing an Athletics jersey, and I believe it depicts Jack Barry, a member of Connie Mack's "$100,000 infield." The handwriting on the back reads, "I see you got a triple yesterday, keep up the good work." The second postcard shows Jim Thorpe, "The Greatest Athlete of All Times." The writing on the back says, "Sara Dean Lee, Mattie Ziegler, Bill Durfee?, Mr. Hunt?, and myself were there. Baseball game between Chambersburg and Carlisle, 14 innings, 2-1 in favor of Carlisle."
