January Pickup Thread
Happy 2010, Everyone! :)
Thank you, Martin! http://www.t206.org/misc/otey.jpg Thank you, eBay?! http://www.t206.org/misc/mitchell_copy.jpg |
Won this cool little booklet on eBay... It's a salesman book for the American Tobacco Company for 1912, listing the brands and prices they produced. I've never seen anything like it before.

Thank you for the kind words. I'll be curious to see the other brands listed when thr book arrives. It appears cigarettes are listed alphabetically. If there ate any other neat tidbits in it when it arrives, I'll post some photos.

great pickup Josh, one of my fav. Young cards.
|
Jon, that booklet is killer! Nice find.
|
Josh
e94 complete in purple is going to be some sight. I would love to see the scans. Good job.
|
|
Josh, if you don't mind me asking, where did you find the E94 purple Young? I've been looking for a nice low grade one for a long time with no success. Unlike you, I'm not trying to complete the set. It's just one of my favorite cards.

Beautiful Fatima! |
The Young was on ebay awhile back. There's also some other E94 Young's listed as well.

My first venture outside of Prewar tobacco or Goudey cards.
I hear this is a D329 Weil Baking card. Looked like a good way to spend $12.00, as I start working on some cards from the "Big Easy". I also added a couple T206's that I really like, because I can't help myself! Let me know if you happen to know the location of an American Beauty Eddie Collins Happy New Year, Bob upperhandisforemost@yahoo.com <a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/?action=view¤t=D329Lavanfront.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/D329Lavanfront.jpg" border="0" alt="D329 Weil Lavan front"></a><a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/?action=view¤t=D329Lavanback.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/D329Lavanback.jpg" border="0" alt="D329 Weil Lavan Back"></a> <a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/Eddie%20Collins%20cards/?action=view¤t=T206CollinsSOV350front.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/Eddie%20Collins%20cards/T206CollinsSOV350front.jpg" border="0" alt="T206 Collins Sovereign 350 front"></a><a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/Eddie%20Collins%20cards/?action=view¤t=T206CollinsSOV350back.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/Eddie%20Collins%20cards/T206CollinsSOV350back.jpg" border="0" alt="T206 Collins Sovereign 350 back"></a> <a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/?action=view¤t=T206AB350Chasefront.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/T206AB350Chasefront.jpg" border="0" alt="T206 Chase Black AB 350 front"></a><a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/?action=view¤t=T206AB350Chaseback.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/T206AB350Chaseback.jpg" border="0" alt="T206 Chase Black AB 350 back"></a> <a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/?action=view¤t=T206Cycle350Chasefront.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/T206Cycle350Chasefront.jpg" border="0" alt="T206 Chase Black Cycle 350 front"></a><a href="http://s588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/?action=view¤t=T206Cycle350Chaseback.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss329/upperhandisforemost/T206Cycle350Chaseback.jpg" border="0" alt="T206 Chase Black Cycle 350 back"></a> |

I'm not sure if Les Bell has a card as a Cardinal, so I cheated and picked him up as a Brave, as he rarely has any cards at all on E Bay. |
Haven't been able to post any new stuff for a while, so it's nice to share these two. Thanks to Quan for the Foxx, and Dave (Bagger) for the Hubbell.

I'm not sure why this card graded a 1. It has a 6-7 front and a couple of small spots of paper loss on the back. I've got a green E98 Chase graded a 4 with the same great front and the same amount of paper loss on the back. Of course, it cost 3x more because of the grade. Meanwhile, when I was at the White Plains show this weekend one of the great guy dealers had a Ramly Donlin in PSA 4 with paper loss on the front of the card, just under Donlin's face -- and it was a considerable amount, not tiny dots -- and it was graded PSA 4.

Nice pickup on the Chase. The guy had a bunch of E98's in low grades but they all looked pretty nice.

That's a beautiful card, Tim. A hundred years old! I was going to take a shot at it because I thought it was the same guy as the Spartanburg Martin in the T209 Colors. A little sleuthing around at the SABR minor league data base proved me wrong although there is some resemblance. Relatives, maybe? Here is the skinny on your guy, pitcher Herbert Martin of the Greensboro Champs:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=martin001her http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...209_Martin.jpg (Why he has a "W" on his cap I have not been able to figure out). Edited to add: Righteous Billiken, Steve. Watch out, they're habit forming. |

Another nice Billiken from Matt G.
|
David / Tim,
Agree, the B/W Martin is Herbert as referenced in your link. The Color Martin is most likely "P." Martin: http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...d=martin002p-- 1907-1909, SS, Spartanburg 1910, SS, Columbia, SAL, and has a T210-1 card. I gotta get one of those Billiken's....... but I need one with the picked fence in backround !!!!!!!!!!!!! |
