Matt--

That's the recent EBay card I advised the Seller about and recommended he send it to SGC.

Glad to know who got it--CONGRATS!

Bicem 11-30-2009 12:45 PM

oh yeah, wasn't it a (rare) true attic find story or something? didn't the guy have no clue as to the value at first?

bijoem 11-30-2009 12:52 PM

thats a nice looking 20 matt. congrats / great card.

sbfinley 11-30-2009 02:12 PM

A couple of Cubans for the type collection.

And not really a card, but how often can a get something pertaining to the famous Baltimore club for almost nothing? Sorry for crappy scans.

Well, after all is said and done, I broke somewhat even with my T210-1 lot, and was able to keep six beauties:

Attachment 9739

Viola: As Rhett said, the forgotten Cuban pioneer.
Mulldowney: Cool Columbia sweeter. Also interesting miscut/trim...... The front looks miscut/trim on bottum, BUT the back looks miscut/trim on top.
Fox: Long time Columbus Manager. Possibly why they were always called the Columbus Foxes ?????
Hille: My type of condition !!
Pope: Needed a Jax player (love those pin holes).
Weems: Classic pose and uniform.

Attachment 9740

Fun, fun, Scott

Rob D. 11-30-2009 03:30 PM

Any other details you can share regading that great Wagner, Matt?

hennessey16 11-30-2009 03:41 PM

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...50/johnson.jpg just recieved this one from a fellow member.( thx Robert Miller) Only need Cobb w/bat on and bat off shoulder and keeler w/bat for all the HOF'ers. also only need Dahlen, Lundgren to finish off all the cards in the SMR price guide. of course not the pricey ones, maybe later on those lol

Matt 11-30-2009 03:42 PM

Thanks Guys! I think it has better eye appeal then the 2s and 2.5s that have sold in the past year or two as they all seemed to have some creasing to Honus.

The back story is that the guy is an auctioneer in PA and put the card away 20 years ago and forgot all about it until recently; he popped up on the eBay forums with a scan and Fred advised him to submit it to SGC. I know he was contacted by a few other folks and a few auction houses before he accepted my offer.

Just fine, Jeff, other than the fact it takes us folks in Columbus a little longer to "get" things.

Thanks for asking.

Thanks, Fred. I think the spot on the bottom/back is what keeps it from a 6. You gotta love the stache though!!

tbob 12-01-2009 10:26 AM

Scott- Thanks again for all the T210s which greatly added to the completion (or very close) of my T210-1s and glad you broke even. Coupled with the T210-2s I bought on ebay, it was a great month for working on this humongous set :)
Scott's sale of cards on ebay was a welcome trip back in time to when you used to see large lots appear in auctions and then the winner broke the set up and offered the cards individually on ebay, you don't see that happening that much anymore.

Jim,

Thanks for the kind words. I had been searching for 10 years for a Tolstoi for my collection. I've missed one or two over the years on eBay but there are just not that many around. I've only seen 10 or so. There was one on eBay earlier this year and I set a ridiculous snipe for it because I wanted it so bad. Well, someone outsniped me (and paid over $600 for the pack).

About three weeks go, I was excited to finally come across a Tolstoi and there just happened to be 2 of them together. I kept one for my collection and I knew Barry was looking for one as well so offered the second one to him. Unfortunately, those were the only two in the deal.

- Jon
