David:
I hate to tell you this. I mean I really don't want to be the one to break it to you. In fact, I hope someone may have PMed you and I am not the one to break this to you. I live by the credo: "No one loves the messenger that brings bad news." Who knows there is a tiny possibility that I could be wrong and besides it's not the end of the world if I'm right - you have a fabulous collection anyway. But...again, I didn't want to be the one to break this to you, buuuttttt that's not Buzz Arlett. It's Alexander Arlett (his brother). No big deal. He wasn't such a bad player, anyway. I almost made the same mistake too. |
As usual T.H.E. Cat is correct. While both Buzz and Pop played for Oakland in 1918 the player pictured is Alexander "Pop" Arlett.
Damn nice card though. 1918 is widely recognized as the toughest of all zeenut issues mainly due to the War. I think too, though not as often mentioned, that the influenza outbreak of 1918 may have played a role. |
David
That was killer-you got me hook, line and sinker-I was looking for trade bait and ready to email you tonight.
That is what makes this board great! |
I am a regular Norman Einstein. Thanks for the correction.

Quote:
Hmmm, what's that T. Pillette on the front of the card mean? Cat begins to contemplate: Must be his nickname: "Tough guy" Herman Pillette.....yeah, yeah, that's the ticket. |

David- that inverted Dunn image made me laugh :)
That Arlett card is a beauty, who cares which brother it is, the 1918s are scarce as hen's teeth and yours is one of the nicer ones I've seen. Congrats. tbob |

I just got this Konetchy in the mail. I spent 15 minutes looking at it last night and can't for the life of me figure out why it is a 2 and not a 4. Oh well. It'll be raw soon enough anyway so it doesn't matter to me. And I got it for a good price so I'm happy. :)

Getting closer to completing an E97 master set which includes all the color cards with variations, all the black and white set and all the color cards with blank backs.
|
Quote:
Whoa - that is quite a feat right there...good luck with the final pieces!!! |
Thanks Blair. I completed the regular color set first and have been collecting the black and white proofs and blank backs lately. The prices for these two groups (at least on ebay) has been going down so maybe I can get this finished. As far as the blank backs go, a couple I am chasing are cards I have never seen before anywhere- a blank back Keeler springs to mind.
|
damn bob!
That's amazing, Bob...an e97 master set...not to mention your e94 's. You had amazing hindsight! If you ever find yourself with an extra e97 nichols, phil variation...I'll trade you my e94 green murray and a dupe(for you) t212 series 150 wolverton for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not really collecting the E95 set but couldn't pass this grouping at a very reasonable price. The backs all have a tiny bit of damage, not bad at all, which accounts for SGC lowering the boom on the grades.

My 9th Catcher HRK
1 Attachment(s)
I received my 9th HRK catcher, John Tiedeman, today from Canada.
Since the Walter Boles HRK crops off his glove making it impossible to identify the card as a catching pose that leaves only 3 more catching pose HRKs that I need. I have seen several Walter Schmidt HRKs over the last few years, and I have been told that Ralph Kreitz and August Fisher are also catcher pose cards. So I need the following three (3) HRKs to complete my run: August Fisher Ralph Kreitz Walter Schmidt I also want to take this opportunity to thank one of our board members again for his generosity. He sent me 3 items on my want list that he had duplicates of in his collection. I can't thank him enough! Needless to say, I had a pretty good day adding 4 PCL cards to my collection. Patrick |
Thanks Scott!
