favorite card?
ONE card. You don't have to own it. What's your favorite?
|
1913 Boston Garter Frank Baker (and I don't own it)
|
d304 Cobb

1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth
1 Attachment(s)
Without a doubt, this one.
What are the chances that a baseball card would be produced of Babe Ruth as an unknown teenager, straight out of boarding school, during his 5 month stint with the Baltimore Orioles of the International League? And no, I do not own this card - the image came from REA's website. |
Yep..........
Richard, that's the one.
Jeff |
1903 E107 Breisch Williams Honus Wagner (I don't own.)
|
At the moment, I would have to say my favorite card is the T205 of John McGraw.
My new "favorite card" someday will be the last card that I have to buy to finish my T206 set. Jantz |
Collins McCarthy Tris Speaker. Couldn't find a picture to post on the net.

1914 Cracker Jack Walter Johnson.
Simply the greatest card created in the history of card creation. |
1914 Cracker Jack Shoeless Joe Jackson.......
|
T206 Ty Cobb

My favorite player and my wife bought it at an antique shop for me. D.

Harry Wright's Kalamazoo Bats. That whole series is fantastic, but that card is the best. Not mine.....maybe someday

Kind of a lame choice, but I really do think that a nice, bright copy of an N162 Kelly is the most beautiful baseball card ever made. I don't own one. Someday I'll find one that looks just right and fits the price I want to pay, and I'll pull the trigger.
-Al |
This is my favorite card -- though not my favorite player.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/calvindog/3855430139/" title="1910 Tip Top Bread D322 by calvindog65, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2480/3855430139_9916c4c365_o.jpg" width="401" height="683" alt="1910 Tip Top Bread D322" /></a> As for my favorite Cobb card I'd say his Boston Garter is my favorite. |
Easy
T210 Joe Jackson
|
I guess my favorite card I don't own would have to be a Ty Cobb T206 Bat Off shoulder. It just seems so timeless and pure baseball, not to mention all the colors that make it the perfect card.
|
T210 Jackson with the Pelicans...

my faves
I own neither but my 2 faves would be a Matty 1912-13 Boston Garter and the t210 Jackson....followed closely by a 1914 Ruth...(which I don't have either).....
|
Probably the Cracker Jack Joe Jackson & Old Judge Cap Anson in uniform. I don't own these.
|
Hands down
1914 Ruth and no I do not own....
|
N162 Kelly
I must be paddling in the same boat as Al, as my top card would be the N162 of Kelly. I am really into the aesthetics of the cards we collect, and for me the Kelly tops the scale. Maybe someday....

I'd say my choice is driven by the uniqueness of the pose. I've narrowed it down to three, but can't decide. So in the spirit of completely disregarding the spirit of the post, I'll list all three:
T209 Thompson B&W (Uncle Sam pose) 1913 Zeenut Leard (Let's get drunk and bunt) Kalamazoo Bats 2 player card in which you can see the scenery support beam in the background Don't own any of the 3. I think 2 of these are Leon's. |

Don't own it, and probably can never afford it
Encapsulated Cobb green background portrait with Howe McCormick's stamp on the Piedmont back. Graded as a 2 because of the stamp, would otherwise be a strong 4 if not a 5. The Cobb greens are beautiful anyway, and this one fits my niche.
|
Mine is always...
The most recent one I picked up!!!!;)
|
T210 Jackson followed closely by A Boston Garter Joe.
|
Hard to pick one, but this is always near the top of the list. CJ Cobb and Jackson are right up there too.
JimB <a href='http://img406.imageshack.us/i/t205mattypsa8cut.jpg/'><img src='http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/595/t205mattypsa8cut.jpg' border='0' alt='Image Hosted by ImageShack.us'/></a><br/> |

The borders on this Ruth RC are so wide. In the right hands, this is certainly a candidate for a much higher grade. |
Unreal T205 Matty, JimB. Whoever owns that Cobb signed T202 . . . WOW!
It is near impossible to say which is my favorite card. I have half-a-dozen in my collection that could be so designated and some of the cards I have seen posted on the Board or by the various auctions are pretty great, too. Just one? The winner by a whisker . . . http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...ca.%201905.jpg |
There are a few close runner-ups, but this one always comes out on top:

It's not a prewar card, but this has always been my favorite (I do currently own this one):

My favorite card is T206 Eddie Plank...no I don't own one (probably never will)
But it's an amazing card in my opininon...and this E95 is no slouch either! |
t210 jax...followed by t206 plank (i.don't.own.it)
|
I'd like to add one to my list if I could. My first choice was the 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson, but I do not own it, (YET!!! :))
One I do own though that is a close second is this one. There's just something special about the image of Ole' Addie on his T205 card. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a95.../jossfront.jpg |

fav
after all these years, still the angelic Walter Johnson portrait T206.
framed, THE centerpiece in my office---as well as a large portrait of Thomas Merton(my fav. trappist). The latter is obviously Off Topic. best, barry |

When I saw this card in a book in 1990 I thought it was a special card! A little over a week ago I was able to pick it up. Babe Ruth in RedSox Uniform, Walter Johnson, George Sisler, and Stan Coveleski all on a card that has this special nostalgic look to it.
|
|
Not all that exotic, but I always liked the T206 Chase w/loving cup...it's a lot like the Ruth with Bird card, but not quite so "out there." I have one. Will probably upgrade it at some point.

Halla & Merkle
1 Attachment(s)
My two favorite cards aren't anything spectacular from a price perspective, but visually to me they are fantastic.
E95 Merkle 1911 Zeenut Halla - Horizontal Bill K. |
My favorite pre-war card
My favorite pre-war card is the T-206 Ed Walsh. I used to own a PSA 7, and I sure miss it. What a beautiful card! I guess I better skip post-war, but I wish there were more post-war questions as those you people have.

Here's my favorite

Yes, I do own it
|
I'll chime in with either the 1869 Peck and Snyder Red Stockings or the 1863 Jordan and Co. cricket match ticket of Harry Wright (perhaps the "first" baseball card)? :) I really dig the ancient stuff!
P.S. Matt, I'm pretty green with envy over that Charleston! |
Collins McCarthy/Boston Store Jackson
Post war is the 53 Bowman Reese http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/4464/favs.jpg |
Pebble Beach O'Doul
For a card I own, it's got everything for me: player I really like, rarity, real photo image, vintage autograph as issued.
http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...&pictureid=901 Now for a card I don't own, I'll take a Pebble Beach Joe DiMaggio, for the same reasons. All time, all sports, this is my favorite for family reasons: http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=1081 |
Other than any of my Walter Johnson cards, my favorite card is the only one I lack to complete my 1925 Holland Creameries set of World's Champion Washington Senators. I am referring to the long-unknown Roger Peckinpaugh card, which I had an opportunity to purchase some years ago when one first surfaced; but, it cost lotsa $$$, and I coudn't bring myself to pull the trigger! I'd love to know in whose collection it now resides.

Since yesterday, this has been my favorite...

Cool thread. :D
The card I don't own that I like the most is the T202 Cobb. I'd love to own even a beat up copy of that beauty. This one I do own, not on par with what some of you guys own, but one I'm thrilled to have in my small collection. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w169/Tedw9/Ted-1.jpg |

I'm surprised no one has shown a card of one of the great characters of the pre-war era. Mr. Waddell's portraits will forever have a place among my favorite poses.

David..... That probably is my favorite in your collection. And it is tough to pick a favorite out of your collection (too many awesome cards to choose from)! |
The favorite card in my collection is also a Matty...1912 RPPC. The scans don't do it justice.
http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/r...912RPPCMJP.jpg http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/r...2RPPCMJPBk.jpg By the way Joe D., you should post your Astoria Giants. That is one postcard I have always enjoyed viewing. It is truly a cornerstone piece. Where did you pick it up? Mike |
Mike -
Your Matty postcard is incredible. I am sure, as you say, it looks even better in person. Beautiful. Here is the Astoria Giants card. It is my favorite card in my collection, and is probably my favorite in the hobby. But, whenever I reply to threads that ask about favorites - - - I usually exclude the Astoria card (otherwise it would be the only card I post :D) http://www.internetville.com/stuff/1903c.jpg http://www.internetville.com/stuff/giants.jpg |
