In a sea of mediocrity,there are still, a select few "elite" collectors who refuse to seller for anything less than the best,

For more than 3 decades, we have focused our collecting efforts on the acquisition of ultra high grade examples of baseball type cards from 19th and early 20th century

Whilst we have built an extensive collection, there are select number of items that we are actively pursuing. We will pay top prices and act in complete confidence. We are primarily interested in non- Hall of Famers. Our objective is to add a high grade representative example regardless of the player.

There's no such thing as an E200, is there? I assume it was a typo (amongst a plethora of typos in this post).

I took my last vacation on the Islands of Langerhans...lovely place!

In a sea of well-written prose, there are still a select-few "elite" collectors who — despite trying to portray themselves as masters of the written word — refuse to consult a dictionary or use spell-check.

Insult the vast majority of the readership and then request assistance from those who may be priviledged enough to own the items in which they are interested.

I think if we keep it on topic it can be permitted. After all I really need an E200 and I might have to contact Hanksta :).
We aren't trying to get in the middle of a sale/trade, are we? If not then I would consider them benign comments.

Seriously, there is nothing in this string of funnyisms (I made that up) that would preclude or hurt something Bruces are looking for. I don't see any pricing issues or anything else that I would think would be interfering in an actual B/S/T deal..... Those things would be against the rules. For the future if I post something on the BST I fully accept any humor there can be. Then too I can also delete stuff I don't like :cool:. take care...

My guess, judging by the tone Bruce uses in these comical posts, is that what he really hopes to elicit is the kind of comments posted in this very thread. Cardboard is nice, but for some, being able to quench a "Look at me" thirst is far more satisfying.

title says it all......Show me something that I don't know.....I never paid any premium for a toy town stamp....my copy is an e97 in pr condition I paid all of $20 for.....who cares? As I have said before.....folks that think overprints (other than this one which has never had any extra value) are easy to fake are either idiots or ignorant. Pick one.

I owned a E98 Old Put Cobb, and for a few years that card was the pride of my collection. At the time we thought Old Put stamps were found on E98 cards with red backgrounds only. Then one day, we see the Old Put overprint on E98 cards with blue backgrounds, and at that point, I became completely uncomfortable with the aftermarket overprints.

Everyone can collect whatever they are comfortable with. The overprint cards are still interesting cards, but I am personally going to stay away from all overprints that were stamped after the actual production process. Just my opinion and to each his own.

Whilst we have little regard for the sarcastic commentary of those"beater collectors", drug using left wing liberals, ex-cons and micro-minds that often can be found "swimming in the sea of mediocrity", we do apologize for the "typo" in the want list.

Clearly, E 200 should have been E 221

And by the way, a big thank you to the two collectors who have written
to us privately. We have already completed one transaction, albeit not
for an item on the posted list.

Good job, Bruce. A post completely void of a whilst, we or misuse of the world penultimate. Granted, the femininity angle is something most of us ditched in third grade or so, but I do give you credit for trying.

Edited to add that I was wrong and didn't notice the we that creeped in there. But that's OK. Baby steps, Bruce, baby steps.

Meanwhile, Bruce got exactly what he wants from these kind of posts. Close to 40 replies and close to 1000 viewings.

Find the last BST thread with those kind of stats and I bet it was one of Bruce's prior posts.

It's true that Bruce could bypass all this hoopla by merely listing the cards he is interested in, and his contact information.

But there is always that introductory paragraph that explains the difference between the elite collectors, of which he is a member, and the poor slobs (generally drug taking liberals) who only like lower grade cards. And he knows that every time he expresses his class vision he is going to get the same reaction from the board. He and I have discussed it many times.

So I have to agree with the others that he does in fact like it this way.

When he says this: "...there are select number of items that we are actively pursuing.", why can't he get the singulars and plurals of the verbs and nouns to agree?




When he says this to Rob: "We suspect that you and your fellow cross-dressers will soon
form a "board of your own.", why does he think Rob will quake at being called a "cross-dresser"? (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)



When he says to Leon: "You are aware, of course, that perjury is a criminal offense.", what is that suppossed to mean? Does he really not know the difference between libel (or even slander) and perjury? Does he see the distinction between the civil and criminal court systems.


When he emails death threats to board members (Raise your hand if you've gotten one! Rob D? Dan B? Myself? Anyone else?), does he realize how ignorant that makes him look?


When he goes out of his way to belittle the very people he's hoping to sell him things, is that good business?


As I said to you this morning, I agree with Jeff P. I usually appreciate most of Bruce's posts, even if I don't agree with them. They stop and make you think. They encourage debate. But a lot of his stuff comes off as poorly thought out, as well as poorly written. There is nothing sadder than an individual trying to sound intelligent and sophisticated, coming off as uneducated. Don't get me wrong. I'm no high brow snob. I don't care how well someone writes or speaks. I take people as they are, but don't try to use big words and fancy terms when you can't construct a simple sentence.

Whilst the three low life musketeers, spent hours thinking of child like bathroom humor and viscous attacks, we were quite busy obtaining two items from America's toughest want list.

So all you ex-cons, liberal drug users and micro-minds take note... we managed a 1000 hits from our post- and obtained just what we wanted-two ultra rare baseball cards.

The funniest thing to me is that I actually have something on Bruce's list. Would I ever sell to him? Absolutely not. We have a past. After having my choice of profession called into question, being called disgusting/hideous names, and being threatened by Bruce, I will never sell to him. He is just going to say that I will sell it to someone else eventually and then he will buy it at a later time. Maybe, but it will probably cost him more just because it will pass through more hands (maybe not, I have a good couple of decades on Bruce and I am into collecting for the long haul). It is really sad because, honestly, I enjoy helping other collectors out and I know that deep down, Bruce is a collector and has an amazing collection. But it will be at least one card lighter. Sorry.

That is an awful way to talk about Barry! I know he's a little more liberal than most, but I don't think he's ever been convicted of anything. Any drug use was probably confined to youthful indiscretion. I refuse to hold it against him. (Rob D on the other hand, is probably on his own here.)

I also have an item that Bruce has tried to buy, repeatedly. It's not for sale. In this case, nothing personal against Bruce. It's not for sale to anyone. Once I explained that to him, all bets were, seemingly, off.

As I said before, I don't really dislike Bruce. I just don't like people who try to act smarter than they really are.

I guess I'm the micro-mind (sic), Jim. As soon as I figure out what that means, I'll take offense if it will make Bruce happy.

I just re-read the story...I laughed through the whole thing (again). In true fashion, and living up to their penultimate selves, Bruces, double posted a comment after the article. Someone really should take excerpts from this place and put it into a book...Ya' can't make this stuff up!!

Once again Leon, you have missed the point here. Bruce did NOT make a double post. Bruce made one post at 7:52 PM. The other post was made at 7:53 PM, BY THE OTHER BRUCE!

I have no problem with Bruce's posts. Does he like the attention? Probably. Does it increase viewership on the forum? Again Probably. So what is wrong? I have learned much from this forum and maybe once or twice given back something. I would very much like to see Bruce treat us with a couple of scans of the truly unique cards in his collection. He has sent me one that corresponds with my interests, but as this was sent to me only, I will not post it here.

Jim- Bruce kindly emailed me during the night and said I was not one of the big three he was referring to. He does call me a liberal all the time, but I have no problem with that.

I guess if the list of sinners includes "ex-cons, liberal drug users and micro-minds", then being just a liberal isn't so bad.

....well, drug users were mentioned a few times........

They are, decidedly, liberal cards. They have a bias cut, almost always to the left. Many are convicts or ex-cons. Most are gay, but they are not allowed to ask, nor tell. They have incredibly small minds.


(In case this was a serious question, Bruce just left out a word. In the body of his post they said they were all out looking for "high grade" cards.)
