This is a milestone for me, as this is my first submission to SGC. These were purchased raw off the B/S/T and the sellers did an awesome job of pricing them according to condition. Do you guys recognize your former cards?

Hey Jody,

I do indeed recognize that T206 Ritter and remember discussing your state's Governor, who was having a very interesting week (I believe he'd just returned home from a 4000 mile hike to the less frequented Pampas section of the Appalachian Trail) when I sold you that card. Glad it graded out to your satisfaction.

J.McMurry 08-01-2009 07:30 AM

Hey Anthony,
Yes I'm very happy with the grades on both cards, I was hoping that the corners on the Ritter might get me a 3, but I understand the stains and creases were probably too much to overcome. I am impressed with your and Matt's "grading eye", as it seems to be dead on.

As described in the "Collecting Spirit" thread - many, many thanks to two board members for two of the last three T207's I need...

Jody - glad your grading experience was positive. After getting surprised on my first SGC submissions I've honed my understanding of their grading scaled and have rarely been surprised the last few years.

Cooperstown and Cleveland Shows

At Cooperstown, I talked with Yogi Berra, Jim Bunning and Roger Clemens. Clemens and his family were dining at
the same restaurant as we were. Roger was a real friendly guy and we got several photo shots of him with us.

Here are some of the more notable cards I bought or traded for in Cooperstown.........

Including this T206 Johnson with a PIEDMONT 460 Factory 42 back....it is only the 2nd one that I know of.

Andrew, Nice "Mordecai" T-205.

I know this is not baseball but I can't help myself :D. I know there is a vintage Hockey site but it's not on this forum. Maybe someday we will have one but until then I am going to be a rebel every once in awhile to show my Hockey fixes.

Very nice Ice Kings, Michael. I've been known to post an IK or two in the past, so it's obviously OK with me anyway. I just need two more to finish the set, Thompson "Left Ear Showing" and Chabot "No Trees". Took me awhile to get used to the fact that the blade marks on the ice were not scratches on the card.

I have pretty much been a lurker on these boards, but the information provided has been invaluable to me....Thanks to all! Started collecting vintage BB cards about 5 years ago and finished all 240 cards of the 1933 Goudey set. I started collecting 1914 CJ's about a year ago, knowing that it would be a long endeavor. I did a triple, quadruple and quintuple take when I found this for sale. Pretty nice (I think) for a PSA 1!

JamesGallo 08-17-2009 10:26 PM

Barry

The Pratt is a great pick up as he is one of if not the hardest card in that set to find. Plus he in a 1914 only card and one that I have been looking for. If you upgrade or want to sell LMK. Card looks grade for the grade, is there back damage?

1914 CJ Del Pratt

2 Attachment(s)
James,

Thanks much for the complement on the 1914 CJ Del Pratt. The back of the card is almost nicer (IMHO) than the front. No tears, paper or corner loss, excessive caramel staining or folds. Along the mid right border of the front there may be what I would describe as a possible slight compression of the card paper, but nothing that really detracts from the overall eye appeal of the card. It was a complete fluke that I found this as a BIN when I did my periodic search on ebay. I am not optimistic that I will happen upon two unicorns in my collecting lifetime, but will certainly keep you in mind if that happens. I may actually try submitting the card to SGC to see their opinion as I think PSA was very harsh in their grading of the card. I knew I was purchasing a PSA 1, but was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box it was delivered in.

.771 winning percentage- shouldn't it be 37-11?

It should be 37-11; this is a T205 variation that just recently came into wide public view thanks to the Levy's on our forum. Legend has it that a dealer in the 70's knew about it and bought one for $1000, but it wasn't widely known until about a year ago. It's not quite as impossible as some would have you believe, but a tough T205 variation nonetheless. I assume that it will be cataloged in the next edition of the Standard Catalog but perhaps Bob Lemke can chime in.
