This original vintage photo is from a rain-out during the 1915 World Series. These Sox players spent the afternoon at a newspaper's photo dept going through photographs of themselves. What a thrill that must have been!

The Red Sox have had some really tragic deaths. Most of us are familiar with The Golden Greek.
Then there was the tragic death of Ed Morris, who was stabbed to death at a picnic held in his honor. Finally, poor Gordon McNaughton, who might still be with us if not for a violation of the seventh commandment: |

Maybe my favorite thread ever:
|
This should go over big with Sox fans. (He even writes about "No, No, Nanette.")
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...frazeetlss.jpg Of course, this is as much a Boston Americans piece as it is a NY Americans--scorecard for Chesbro's "wild pitch" game: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...904program.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2.../1904score.jpg |
David,
It's even more irritating that the confounded letter is dated 1927. Please burn it immediately. ;-) |
Nice Burr Mac, M101-2 team, the Herald pc and absolute favorite, Harry taking it in the keister letter. I'll have to burn a copy for the boys at work.

This 1938 card was bought as a companion piece to display with the exceedingly rare '38 "heads up" wrapper. I decided on Foxx because I felt he gave me the biggest bang for my buck. And. it didn't hurt that he became the first three-time winner of the MVP in that year as well.

I can't wait to see Rawn's items. I am sure there will be some "Rough" items. This is one of my favorite items, a tribute to Duffy Lewis in 1947. He started the left field tradition (Duffy's Cliff) in Red Sox lore before the Kid and Yaz and Rice.
|
Nice Duffy's Mike. How about letting me see that Ramley one more time.
Rawn |
Really neat Duffy Lewis tribute.
http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...fy%20Lewis.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...Lewis%20bk.jpg Edited to add: One of the downsides of being a Yankees fan (which I am not, in particular) is that you are compelled to hate the Red Sox. How could anybody hate the Red Sox? It's like hating Thomas Jefferson or chocolate chip cookies or Miss September. It's un-American. http://photos.imageevent.com/kawika_...soxCollage.jpg |

Here you go Rawn. It's helping me towards the Boston AL Subset but I have a feeling it will be back at your house (where it belongs) sometime in the future. Down to needing 4 of the 15. Arrelanes, Niles, Stahl and Lindaman left.
David: Nice C-M Duffy. If you ever feel the need to part with it, look me up. Also had to throw in the 67 Red Sox stickers. My favorite set as a 6-7 year old kid just getting into cards. Who knew it would be a life long habit. |

Red Sox straight razor.
And this Ted Williams piece is one of my favorites. Its big and heavy and has a really cool "deco" look to it. |

Thank Mike, I really miss that, but I'm in the Arizona desert and I miss a lot of things. I'll be looking for a replacement at the end of July and I'll make someone a very healthy profit.

Man, that Greenberg fella was a monster! Great pic Jimmy
Rawn, Glad things are going well out there. |
Nice thread. Love the McGreevy autograph.
You guys have seen all of my stuff posted elsewhere so no need to post again. Greg |

Williams & Mantle battle it out for the batting title...
1 Attachment(s)
With just a couple of weeks left in the 1956 season, Ted Williams was leading Mickey Mantle for the batting title. The Mick got hot, the Splinter went cold, and the "Commerce Comet" won the Triple Crown! As they say, the rest is history. Vintage Original TYPE I photograph...

1949 season pass that belonged to John Dooley, founding member of the Royal Rooters and the man who put the Red Sox on Huntington Ave. He attended every Boston home opener from 1894 until his death in 1970. I'm happy just to get tickets.

Here are a couple of pretty cool BoSox Pennants....
The first features their nifty "Batting Sock" Mascot from the '50s... this little guy appeared on cards and programs quite a bit, but is surprisingly tough to find on vintage pennants. Second is an oversized Red Sox Pennant from the early teens - a true work of art... |
Jack McCallister managed the 1927 Cleveland Indians and was a scout for the Red Sox in the early 1930s.

This is not my picture. Found it on the Web. It's a Library of Congress photo, I believe. Thought it would be apropos for this thread. Shown are: Cy Young, Jake Stahl, Bill Carrigan and one Mr. Michael T. McGreevey at Red Sox spring training in 1912.

Crisp shot. From the looks of things.,The boys really needed the change to Sarasota. Brrrr

Hot Springs is supposed to be very nice, Steve.
Rawn |
Great bathhouses, pretty town and very warm people. But it does have a change of seasons and gets snow, which means cccold to this wimp. Heck, even Jacksonville, Fla hits 32* and snows albeit rarely.
Tough for a hardcore Mainer to understand my whining though ;) Glad your back posting. |
It's 106 today and I'll take 32 over this anytime my friend.

In lieu of today's recent report in the New York Times, here is a pre-2003 shot of David Ortiz. Quite frankly, I'm disgusted.
