REA winners
Since anyone who stayed up is probably still asleep, I will start the thread for those to show off their winnings. I went to bed winning one and I won it. I won a nice group of t206's including a higher grade Shag that I needed. Most others will be sold off, but I thought it ended at a decent price.

I woke up this morning to find that I won this:

Nice Doug
Doug that is a nice image for the grade. I'd love to pick up an Old Judge one day.
Also- Matt that is a nice Joe Jackson collection in one night! |
Slow Joe?
Last I saw was at $190K and there was time left. Anyone know the results?
|
Tao
I think it went for about 260k + juice...but we can check today...
|
Slow Joe is nip, nip, nippin on Hans' heels.

Won (2). Lost out on a couple more after 1:00am. I thought there were lots of very nice, just not rare, cards that went for very reasonable prices (even with the premium included).

Not a card, but a pretty rare HOF game used bat. Congrats to everyone else.

Matt, Enjoy the Jackson Standard Biscuit I miss it already. I only won the T5 Baker I lost the T5 Collins on a fairly late overtime bid. Overall I was happy with how my consignments did. though none of mine went for more then I felt they were worth, like sometimes happens in Rob's auctions.
|
Matt,
congrats on the Joe Jackson biscuit, I watching that one.. closely!!! < jealous |
I got nuttin'.
There was one lot that I struggled with my decision of 'to bid or not to bid'.... but I let it go. Then there were two others that I wanted and probably would have continued to bid..... but, I fell asleep. not my best perforomance :o |
Mark,
You got a great deal on the Traynor bat. He's super rare, especially in an H&B. Matt |

Old Judge lot?
So which one of you dropped 180K on the Old Judge lot.
Come out, come out wherever you are :D |
Matt
Thanks. Having met Traynor a couple of times when I was a kid, I'm especially happy to add this one to the collection. You picked up a great looking bat that I haven't seen much at auction. It looked to me that the bat prices were relatively low across the board. As for my bat, I am guessing that some of the dealers who have been outbidding me for Traynor bats over the last four or five years just sat this one out. |
Jim, congrats, great card. It appears you really, really like that card, huh? :)
|
I am very excited about this one. I can't remember ever seeing one before and there are no reported sales on VCP in any condition. Woohoo!

Thanks guys! I had to sell my F&B Joe Jax last year and have been waiting to find a suitable replacement. I'm thrilled to have won my lots well below my intended max bids :)

I got one!
Bob, I nearly ran you on that Bowman set but decided not to bid late yesterday; nice pick-up!
I got the 1952 Topps Dom DiMaggio progressive proof run of 6 cards. I just thought it was really interesting and unique. http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...x?itemid=12087 |
r man- you outbid me on that one, very good:),i think you got a good deal on it...i had to pass as i was way over my $$ limit....that is a tough card, did you see what the last one went for, way more than that, check out vcp, i may be wrong but i think it was 20k?
exhibit man- nice 52 pick up, i won the rizzuto progressive...real neat item(s) wouldnt you say... |
hey t-bob-, i have watched you post e-94's for awhile, congrats on getting close...good for you..:)
|
hey jamie(blunder)- WOW, NICE BALL, let me ask, i have a auto. ruth ball myself on a babe ruth special ball, this looks to me to be the same babe ruth special ball,? if so that makes it even more"wow" to me..
|
marty
I was in awe of that '52 Mantle. That has the best centering and all around clarity of any Mantle I can remember. If I were going to have one that exact one would be it. Absolutely great card and for some strange reason one of my favorite in the auction (I just don't/can't collect everything). I kept going back and looking at it and didn't even have an interest in bidding on it. nice pick up. (maybe it's because I am picky on centering and those rarely are centered well)
|
Gorgeous '52 Mantle! Congrats!
|
Great looking Mantle! I miss mine already, but I had to sell it for auction money. :)
|
leon- yeah i thought it was one real nice ex+, according to rob it "was"...of course the 80 ex/nm one sold for more, to me it wasnt as nice, dont mean to offend just my worthless 2 cents....thanks bicem.....i bought one from the "find" way back in the 80s, and sold it for a loss to buy wax for the big rookie craze at the time(s) ye know, cant miss guys like strawberry, gooden, etc, took this long to get another, i tried searching the addicts of america but had no luck.:).............thanks doug
|
Nice pick up Richard. I went to 8K and was not going to 9K. Figured the way it was going someone wanted it more than I did. I kept getting those outbid notices from 4500 all the way up.
Greg |
jim super awesome fantastic card.

The Winner of the Sporting Life Cabinet lot of 3 (Freeman, Stahl, Winters) broke my heart and I went to the alternative plan below. Great auction, Had fun.

Hey Marty Check this out...
Thanks Marty.. yea I thought that ball would get up to 9-10K.. so for 6500 I really feel it was a great deal....A funny story behind the bidding on the ball.. I was at the yankee game yesterday and the new stadium has a museum with a team signed ball from all 26 championship years... I was staring at these amazing balls from the 20's and 30's with Ruth and Gehrig, when I got the email notice on my phone that I had been out bid at 6000... so I just said screw it... they looked so nice behind that 6 inch glass at the museum.. so I place my bid that ended up winning the auction...from my phone while still in the museum:p
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g.../BabeRuth1.jpg I only know of one babe ruth special ball so if you have an auto on of Babe on one of those balls then we share that in common.. was it a team signed ball or just Babe on it?... I would love to see a pic.. |

Won the only card I went after. Finally, Mr. Wright!

Jamie
That's a wonderful baseball. They should give 10% discounts if you bid with an interesting backstory about why or how you are bidding on the item. |
A bunch of beaters!
I got 50 new cards, including a bunch of T202s that I needed (two Cobbs) - $30/card + juice, so I'm happy with that! I'll also have a few T3, T200, T201, and T207 gems to put on the wall of the Man Cave. My tax return was burning a hole in my pocket!

This is my first year [in many] that I did not pick up any winnings from REA. As I won a special piece from Legendary earlier this week, I was not too disappointed. |
Dave,
I was right behind you on that Texas Tommy! Great card, great price, congrats. 2 wins for me last night: http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...em_11481_1.jpg http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...em_11741_1.jpg |

Thanks Marty. Looking back to when I first got the insane idea to do an E94 master set (6 colors of each player), I didn't really realize the time, money and effort it was going to take. I am down to a handful of commons now plus some color variations of the big boys (Cobb, Wagner and Young). Realistically I am going to have some tough decisions to make before long, like do I sell some pre-war sets to complete this task or do I just sit back and take a breath and realize that it may never be finished at today's prices. :(

hi matt- seems that way...i dont post all of my winnings but i was happy to get this one, kind of a cop out not doing it card by card, but i would have never had the patience to do it that way....so i decided to share this one, not sure if i am going to register it or not. at the moment probably not.. with the extras i have i have the set up to 6.00 ex/mt...i have wanted 3 sets in my life..this one, a 1915 cracjer jack (did not even sart it yet) and a 1938 horrors of war wich i own and is on the registry.....the one last year in rea went for the same but was a g.p.a of 5.11- this is 5.70...glad i waited..
|
as a wise man who is considering selling me his N162 Anson told me last night, "Good things come to those who wait."
Congratulations! |
very true matt, but you know what, who knows where true value lies? in this hobby value is all over the place....it's only worth what someones willing to pay regardless of guide , auction, etc.. if i ever thought of resale before i bought i probably wouldnt buy a thing:)
|
Quote:
Marty, Very nice pick-up. And to add to your thought about true value, I've always found it ironic that true value is set by the underbidder, not necessarily by the winner. |
|
So Barry-
I'm assuming your winnings arrived Sunday evening? :D |
