This is a thread ladder. Each post on the forum has number. If you post on this thread, your post must contain a record equal to the number of the post. Let's see how high we can go. Pictures are preferred in the post, but are not mandatory. To demonstrate these simple rules let's get started with the first number

Rules violations are piling up and are too numerous to mention individually, but you know who you are or not.

The forum members are a bell shaped curve and overall I would give a grade of C collectively to all of you at this point. Some of you though will have to stay after school at the chalkboard and write

"I promise to understand the rules of a thread before posting and apologize for my egregious violations."

Edit: Most recently accomplished by Pat Venditte, the first to do it in two decades. Like with Shohei Ohtani this year, MLB created a new rule specifically because of him.

He would go on to hit 13 homers in 16 games, a mark that still stands, matched only by Albert Belle in 1995.

Sam Crawford had the all time record for career triples (309)... the next closest is Ty Cobb at 295 or 14 less.

23 - most runs scored by a losing team...this might only be a modern era (1900-present) record.

The Philadelphia Phillies lost a 26-23 slugfest to the Cubs back in 1922. Almost unbelievably, they scored 23 without a single home run...in 1922...when baseballs were leaving the yard with much greater frequency than they had just a few years prior.

Not sure what's worse here, the folks who didn't follow the rules or the folks who didn't notice that the extra posts have created gaps but skip over them. :)

We are on 13 - most home runs in a game by both teams.

The National League’s 1916 New York Giants won a record 26 games without a loss. The longest American League winning streak is 22, by the 2017 Cleveland Indians.

Actually, Mark is wrong, the 1916 Giants went through a 27 game streak without a loss, which is a Major League record, and now correctly shown in post #27. They had a 1-1 tie game during the middle of their streak, so they DID NOT win 26 games in a row. The Indians I believe actually have the correct Major League record having won 22 consecutive games IN A ROW.

Even though nearly everyone knows this one, I'll bet few of you know the reason why 28 became this record.

February set the new record for shortest month after being shortened by 3 days in 1928 so that spring training could start earlier.

I believe that Gil Hodges hit 4 HR in one game but he shares the record.

Actually had an earlier 17 consecutive game winning streak to go with the 26-27 games one where they did not lose. Yet they ended up in 4th place that season. Talk about a team running hot and cold.

As for keeping this thread on topic, 34 is the major league record for successful challenges by a manager in a single season. Don Mattingly had the umps overturn 34 different calls during the 2016 season, which is the current MLB single season record for now.

And of course, before I could hit the submit button, Peter jumps in with a post that isn't even keeping the thread on topic and knocks me to post #35. So, the all-time major league record for assists by a center fielder in a single season is 35, and was actually done by Tris Speaker, twice. He did it in 1909 and again in 1912. Talk about an odd record and occurrence, especially since they played fewer games in a season back then.

Joe DiMaggio’s record of hitting in 56 straight games does not include the single he hit in the All-Star game mid-streak. He gets my nod for 57 over Bobby Thigpen, who was the first closer in the AL to reach 57 saves in 1990, no longer a record though.

He played for the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Braves and St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched the shortest complete game by fewest pitches (58) in history. Finished with a won loss record of 69-69.

In 1961 the Yankees won a record 65 home games in the regular season.

A stretch, but 66 is the most home runs in a single season by someone who never held the record for home runs in a single season. S Sosa.

Okay, so I only knew this via just Googling 67, but here it is: "The Seattle Mariners set a Major League Baseball (MLB) record by using 67 players in 2019."

79 - Jean Machi is the first player in major league history to have the number 79 as his first uniform number

First of all.....did you know that the Philadelphia Phillies are the longest continuous franchise in Baseball history. The Phillies originated in 1893 (initially called the Quakers).

During these 130 years, the Phillies played in only four World Series. They lost their first two W.S. to the Red Sox (1915), and the Yankees (1950).

In 1980, the Phillies finally won the W.S. by beating the Kansas City Royals. In 2008 they won the W.S. by beating the Tampa Bay Rays.

My mathematical mind tells me that the magic # to their success is the number "8". At this rate their next W.S. victory will be in 2028 :)
