Reposted to the correct thread…

They’re rough, but I was able to pick up 3 cards towards my 1933 DeLong set build, including two HOFs. I’ll be sending them to SGC and if they get 1’s, I’ll be happy.

This group puts me at 4/24 for the build.

I was not expecting to receive a framed display with an N172 Radbourn in addition to this N284 I picked up on ebay. Great start to the year

George Manion - Thanks to Lee and his staff at Sterling Auctions

Joe Doyle-Thank you Trent King for an excellent trade and a win / win for both of us! Would recommend doing business on the BST with him anytime!

Frank Smith - Thank you Marc Bourgea for an excellent transaction! Would recommend doing business on the BST with him anytime as well.

Rhotchkiss 01-13-2024 08:05 PM

Wow Jeff, GREAT looking example of a very tough variation. Congrats, that’s a keeper

Wazoo, very nice combo; the Chance CB is super tough

Tim, great eye on those; the Manion is particularly nice

Congrats, Ryan - I'm very happy for you! And, I'm very happy for me because I'm sure I'll be able to see this incredible Ruth PC up close at the Feb. 10th Net54 get together!

The item I most coveted in Memory Lane is this Ruth-Cobb "card." But then again, I love rarity and neat advertising more than many/most collectors. If I had deep pockets, this "card" would have sold for much more. Hope a Net54 member won it. https://memorylaneinc.com/site/bids/...e?itemid=79592

Bicem 01-14-2024 12:27 PM

Great postcard Ryan, I've been trying to definitively put a date on that image for awhile now.

Two 1926 Sports Co. Of America (a/k/a Spalding Champions) cards with the scarcer ad backs from Board members. Thanks to Matt G. for the Bucky Harris and to Paul S. for the Sam Rice. I'm especially thrilled to get the Rice card for my master collection of his cards, despite there being 90% paper loss on the back, because I've been looking for this card for many, many years.

Well, finally found a T3 Lou Criger that fit my set and i have completed my T3 set (boxers and variations included but only two “no offer” variations - one being Mathewson). I didn’t have to pay too much for the PSA 5 (older grade but still nice, clean no creases). Fits my set which is a 4/5 set. Luckily i bought most of the set over 20 years up to 2017 except a few, and I bought all of the keys early on.

He’s been in Des Moines since Wednesday, but with blizzard conditions, below zero air temperatures (the post office suspended all deliveries Thursday) and then the MLK holiday yesterday, he didn’t make it the less than one mile to my office until today. Worth the wait. Number 407 towards a complete T206 set with Howe’s stamp. Number 408 should be here before months end.

Nice pickup, Eric. I'm surprised that REA didn't identify this as HOFer Bucky Harris' rookie card.

Thanks Val. Yeah, it seemed like something was off with the Auction this time around. Didn't seem like a lot of bidding the last day. (at least from what lots I was watching). Just my 2 cents.

A different pickup for me but a meaningful one. Thank you to the Net54 members who were able to help me find this card.

I've done alot of research on Eddie Grant over the years and I'm sure many of you know his story. Attached is his T205 along with a 77th Division (Statue of Liberty Division) shoulder patch, to which he was assigned after becoming one of the first men to enlist in 1917, two years after his retirement from baseball. Grant made the ultimate sacrifice trying to rescue The Lost Battalion in the Argonne Forest. He was one of three former major leaguers to die in battle in WW1. His story is worth a read.

I'll be visiting the Meuse-Argonne Cemetery in Romagne, France in June for a WW memorial tour, and plan on leaving these two on his headstone.

I'm not sure that my pickup is worthy of following another Howe Stamp (one of the coolest collections on Net54) but here they are anyway.

In June of 1955 Baseball Magazine began advertising 11 large (about 17 1/2 X 20 inches) posters.

I received the last two I have been looking for today.

One day I hope someone makes a decent movie about Ty Cobb, especially his early years, including his short time with Matty McIntyre. Might make us all see Cobb in a different light.

calvindog 02-05-2024 08:44 PM

That’s a beautiful PB Cobb. It looks like a 6.5.

jacksons 02-05-2024 09:03 PM

Thanks, not quite, 1 point lower. Little white mark on the left and a tobacco stain on Ty’s cheek. Adds some character. PB’s always feel more authentic to me.
