Let's start this off for the new month - can't wait to see the pickups

Here's some of my haul from the National:

1941 Goudey...with a bit of an issue.

Leon, I assume that Hugh's name being cut to the top is the issue? :-)

Saw a similar packaging issue inside a dealer case at the National. Met Ott sure looks a lot like Jim Tobin!

Love that Babe Ruth Membership Card

Speaking of the National, I finished a pair of Universal Toy & Novelty Co boxing sets and almost finished a couple of other strip issues with this acquisition.

Biggest pickup for my T205 HOF set.
Good looking card with an off center gold border and a scratch on the front.
Brings my EGGS up to 89

Al would like to invite Hugh to the 1941 Goudey "Up-Top" crew.

Not new, but what can you do, except provide another messed-up card in a different hue.

Was the dealer trying to sell that card as a Mel Ott card and pricing it as such. It's clearly not a HOFer card like the tag says.

Yep, labeled and priced like the HOFer. While I moved to other places, it's possible someone challenged them on it. It was the sole 1941 Goudey they displayed and I expect they knew too little about that set to spot the error.

Jim Tobin is a below the borderline HOF candidate at the best. But the player on the "Mel Ott" card is actually Bill Crouch, who had a real slender, non-HOF MLB career, and missed the 1942 through 1944 years in organized ball, probably because of WW2 military service(?).

The card is, however, the first 1941 Goudey print on top I remember seeing that has a different player on top, so it does have that going for it.

Yep, my error on calling him Tobin. It's the Bill Crouch card, as you said. Of the wrong-player labels I've seen, at least one connected these two players, just without Ott's name.

Nice haul, Jim. Those Wheaties Gehrig are always hard to get in that nice of a condition.

Nice card, Phil, congrats. Mine is pretty beat up, but I love it. I think it one of the better looking cards in the set, and I'm in the minority, I guess, but I think he ought to be in the HoF.

He should definitely be in the Hall for his ambassadorship if nothing else, if Buck O'Neil gets in then lefty should get in under the same rules, the man is practically the father of Japanese baseball.

Always liked the portrait....

That Leaf Jackie is a beauty. Love the centering! Congrats!

Nice T206 Matty. I love when heavier creasing on a card doesn't affect the player's image (especially the face). It reminds me of my black cap Mathewson.

That is probably my favorite in the entire set. Beautiful card!

Picked up this Gehrig to finish my 1934 Goudey set. It has some light creases that aren't seen in the picture which account for the grade.

JollyElm will just love it when I say your 34 Gehrig is "iconic", but it is! Great card!

Actually arrived the last week of July.

Unbeknownst to the sender, my wife and I were in the midst of packing up everything and moving from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Des Moines, Iowa, both of us having gotten new jobs and getting back much closer to our son (2 1/2 hours versus 12 hours). The last day we had mail delivered in Cheyenne a package arrived, completely unexpected. Opened it up and there was Atz with Howe’s stamp on the back, along with the note in the last photo. Really was the pick me up I could use after the scramble to get ready for the move.

Special thanks to the sender, and to everyone on this board who have sent cards, pointed me in the direction of auctions, made trades and kept my collection in mind while working on their sets. There certainly wouldn’t be 393 cards in collection without your help. Thanks.

Another Old Judge in today and pitcher #2 in my 2 man 19th century rotation for my card lineup. Count Mullane.

Not all new, some are , but had to show off the new tuxes.

Happy to add a beautiful Ramly Eddie Plank and the rookie card of a great post-war pitcher. IMO the Spahn rookie card is greatly undervalued given the scarcity of the card and Spahn's career accomplishments

Talk about eye appeal. Amazing T205, congrats! I've been mostly shut out of the last few big auctions, but did get this one, after a late bidding war of course. Collecting Lajoie and always looking for Weil Baking so I was gunning for this.
