REA Auction Preview

Does REA not allow you to view items beforehand (the auction starts 10-6-17)? Or am I missing something? Typically in most auctions you can preview the items before the auction starts. Does anyone know? Thanks!

Bicem 10-05-2017 08:35 AM

No preview.

T_Hamilton 10-05-2017 08:44 AM

Can not wait. My favorite auction!

packs 10-05-2017 08:57 AM

I've got an item in the auction. Looking forward to potentially making some money during REA as opposed to waving goodbye to it.

Usually, REA opens their auction early or has the digital version available as a preview, but not this year. However, it opens tomorrow, so it's almost here!

Bpm0014 10-05-2017 11:09 AM

Agh, the suspense!

Republicaninmass 10-05-2017 11:33 AM

Tick tick tick

Maybe it will open early

drcy 10-05-2017 12:18 PM

To quote the famous philosopher and theologian, It is what it is and it isn't what it isn't.

clydepepper 10-05-2017 12:49 PM

Some of my most prized collectibles are contained (in image form only) within the many amazing pages of my REA Catalog Hard-Copy Personal Library.

I assume those pages represent today's version of the Sears & Roebuck 'Wish Book' Catalogs of my grandparent's era.

I can't wait for the next one to arrive...

RedsFan1941 10-05-2017 01:08 PM

maybe REA isn't doing a preview because of all the complaints about auctions taking too long from start to finish.

Republicaninmass 10-05-2017 01:17 PM

It is getting a little absurd when most bidding is done the minute it opens, or once it goes to extended bidding

autograf 10-05-2017 01:26 PM

I think it's the equivalent of the really good restaurant keeping people waiting in the front even though a table or two might be ready in the back. The suspense makes it all so much more exciting. Or maddening. There's a fine line between those two......

pawpawdiv9 10-05-2017 02:07 PM

I posted some interested items that are being auctioned in another thread.
You should read what is being offered in their 'Updates"
http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=245564
I just hope its not a bunch of HIGH-END items that the middle/working class can afford.
Looks to be advertising some heavy smoking guns already.

Aaron Seefeldt 10-05-2017 02:18 PM

Saw them at the National

Saw a sampling of their stuff at the National. Pretty f'n awesome!

iowadoc77 10-06-2017 07:47 AM

The suspense is killing me. It’s the 6th, open it up already!
Seriously, they have a good brand and they know it. Nothing wrong with creating a little hype.

Republicaninmass 10-06-2017 07:53 AM

IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Now where are those music note emjois

Bpm0014 10-06-2017 08:09 AM

It’s the 6th, open it up already!

I know!

packs 10-06-2017 08:13 AM

I've checked the date 3 times already and the website 10 times to see if it says the 16th. Where are the goods?

edjs 10-06-2017 08:24 AM

I am guessing they open at 9:00 PDT, or noon eastern. Your guesses?

darwinbulldog 10-06-2017 08:32 AM

I'll say 1:00 P.M. EDT.

packs 10-06-2017 08:35 AM

An east coast office on west coast time. I like it.

T_Hamilton 10-06-2017 08:36 AM

Open open open.

darwinbulldog 10-06-2017 08:49 AM

Is that a headline or a demand?

T206Collector 10-06-2017 08:55 AM

I was hoping it was a headline, but alas... it is not open open open... yet...

Griffins 10-06-2017 08:55 AM

if you're that impatient you can backdoor it.
Go to the last lot of the last auction, and then add one number to the url- it should end in 45912

Happy to help, I wonder if they will "close that door" before the auction goes live or by the next auction. Not too hard to find.

Not blown away with the autographs, which is my niche.

Start: 10/6/2017 2:00 PM EST
End: 10/29/2017 12:00 PM EST

pawpawdiv9 10-06-2017 12:07 PM

Republicaninmass 10-06-2017 12:14 PM

Boom

scooter729 10-06-2017 12:24 PM

And all of a sudden, the thread goes very quiet, as everyone scrambles to enter their placeholder bids, followed shortly by receiving their outbid emails....

Done and done. Sheesh. Record outbid time for me! Hope deflated. Reality restored

irv 10-06-2017 12:34 PM

Very nice auction, especially the 52 Topps cards! :D
https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/Lots/Gallery

Noticed this Eddie Miskis gray back card and noticed they still refer to it as a CDN gray back.
I thought that had pretty much been disproven?

x2drich2000 10-06-2017 01:04 PM

anyone know if it is possible to place a straight bid that is more than the minimum?

Republicaninmass 10-06-2017 01:05 PM

(Gulp) looking at my bids, I hope I don't win them all!

edjs 10-06-2017 01:24 PM

Oh the irony, we count down the minutes until the auction opens, it seems an eternity. Then an hour later, we count down the minutes until the auction closes, it seems an eternity.

Rookie bidder, but what is the advantage of placing placeholder bids when you can just look at your watchlist the last day and prioritize what you can afford/want and then bid before it goes into extended bidding?

The earlier you can get your placeholder bids in, the cheaper they are. Technically it shouldn't matter, but it's nice not to have to outbid someone on the last day, which might encourage the top bidder to bid more at the time. I'd rather place my bid early, and then only bid one more time just as the auction is preparing to close. That would be ideal. But, it's all in my head.

Sean 10-06-2017 03:50 PM

There is no advantage to bidding today. I do it because I know they won't hold up, so I might as well get them in. I'll prioritize when I see where the bidding takes them.

Jason 10-06-2017 03:51 PM

What a Auction! The Old Judge selection is just simply amazing. Last REA was overloaded with T210. This one not so much but there is plenty of other stuff to grab ones attention:D

There are a few reasons, but the most obvious is: In the event that items that are high priority are bid out of my price range during extended bidding, I can shift my bids to other items. If I didn't get the bids in the first place I couldn't do that.

+1. You don't want to do that on the last day before extended bidding because the potential expense or cost could be much higher. Now getting in placeholders is relatively cheap.

iwantitiwinit 10-06-2017 07:00 PM

I anticipate that the price(s) I'm going to have to pay to get the 1 or 2 cards I want will really piss my wife off. Oh well so be it!!!!

It's always fun to see multiple T206 Plank's / Magie's in the same auction. It was a hoot putting my bids in.
