Snagged this 1954 Dodgers tickets stub. Karl Spooner makes his debut and gets a 3 hit complete game shutout with 15 Ks! that is the record. Strasburg struck out 14 in his debut. I was at that game.

I'm starting to get a few ticket stubs. For now, I'm trying to get one Hank Aaron home run game ticket stub for all 23 years that he played. I'll probably eventually expand this to include milestone games. Thanks Randall (mcgwirecom) for helping me take care of several years at one time. Just noticed that the my label on the last stub says 1975, but it should be 1976.
|
You are welcome. Once the hook is set on ticket collecting you will want to try and get them all. LOL I started collecting in 1998 innocently enough. McGwire looked like he was gonna hit 60+ homeruns so I decided to buy up tickets near the end of the year so I'd have the game he broke the record. then he went on a tear and I had to buy all of September to be safe. So I was happy I had #62 and #70. But i had some others too so I decided to get #60-70. I did that and then I decided to get the whole season. Then I tried to get full tickets only. Pretty tough since they tore them back then. Once I was almost finished I decided to get all his homeruns. Its the thrill of the chase! Now I have about a dozen different themes I am chasing.
All McGwire HRs All Thome HRs All Dunn HRs (thought he would make it to 500 but he quit on me!) All Harper HRs All Trout HRs All Henderson 1982 stolen bases All McLain 1968 wins All Carlton 1972 Wins All Story HRs from this year (rookie record?) All Randy Johnson 15 Ks or higher 500th HRs 300th wins 3000th Ks 4 HR games 3 HR games Perfect Games 500 HR Club milestones (1st, 100th, etc) 2002 A's 20 game win streak Immaculate Innings (9 pitches 3 Ks) Last K of a 300+ K season |

Yes, very! I spent many hours before the season started trying to find out who had season tickets and who did not. Then the ones that don't you need to cover yourself for those games. I went and bought tickets to many games to ensure I would have them. The big blow was the Nationals. They stopped printing season tickets 3 years ago. But as a courtesy to the season ticket holders they would print them box office style if they asked. This year, no dice. I ordered tickets online but they, as some other teams do, let Tickets.com handle the online sales. No one likes a Tickets.com ticket. its like a Ticketmaster, no team logos. I tried to find someone who live near the ballpark to buy me tickets at the window. I couldn't find anyone in time so I drove 3 hours down and 3 hours back in the snow and sleet to buy half a seasons worth of tickets at the window so I'd have mine. That sucked. Some teams that have season tickets are still tough to find people to sell you one! I am having trouble finding a Reds season ticket holder who will sell me a few tickets that I may need this year.
|
Randall...Thanks you made my goal of a ticket for every 1971 Pirate home and away game seem less daunting when compared to what you are trying to accomplish.
|
I've been collecting McGwire homeruns the longest, maybe 15 years. Still need 26 more tickets. This type of collecting is not for people who like instant gratification. At first it seems like you will finish quickly because you are doing bulk deals for tickets. But after a while it turns to a trickle. Then nothing for a long time. You need to network with other ticket collectors, ask everyone about tickets, advertise, etc. Now when you find one ticket you need it is exciting!
I like taking on a big challenge. I know several collectors who have taken on bigger undertakings. Scott Garner who is on Net54 is collecting all Nolan Ryan game tickets. I also know of two guys collecting all Ripken streak games. Another collecting all Pete Rose hits. Another doing all Carlton Fisk games played. They are in it for the long haul. |

BTW, if you want to be mind blown, please check out Tony Swann's carltonfisk.com website. It's unreal! I started out collecting tickets to Nolan Ryan pitched games in 1972 and thought it would be neat to find perhaps 100 of them. Meanwhile, 44 years later I'm currently up to 753/807 of Nolan's regular season games plus his All Star appearances and post season games with the Mets. Those of you that know me on net54 also know that I also collect the no-hitter theme, which was an offspring of Nolan Ryan becoming The No-Hit King with 7 career no-hitters. Currently I own tickets to 202 different official and unofficial no-hitters dating back to 1901. Chasing the current no-hitter game tickets is becoming a challenge because of the e-ticket fiasco that Randall described perfectly. |

Picked up a 1920s Bill Kamm Spalding bat.
|
That Kamm bat is extremely rare. It's only the 2nd I've ever seen. Great pickup.
|
Thanks Clint, I didn't know that the Kamm bat is rare. I see that you have a pretty nice collection of Spalding bats. Who all do you have?
|
Ron, I sold almost all of them. I had all but 8 or nine of the 50+ bats from the 1908-1925 time frame. Still have Fred Clarke gold medal, Cobb, Meyers and Doyle. Beautiful bats and the weights of some are extremely heavy reaching 50+ ounces.

Dixie Lid Premiums
I love those Dixie Lid Premiums. I think they are one of the most attractive and undervalued items. I have the eight of the baseball players in the series. I have never seen an example without the holes. Thanks for sharing it.

Finally able to get out to a real flea market!
It's been a while but back in the hunt again! Feels great to be able to root out some new (vintage) items!
Picked up a nice team basketball photo with printed mount - 1957/58 Canadian Champs - Vancouver Eilers (12.5 x 10.5 including mount) and a unique 4.5 inch bass relief, metal, baseball "plaque" that the seller suggested was from Nazi Germany. 1946 vintage signed Ed Head no-hitter ticket
4 Attachment(s)
I was able to come up with an unexpected, really cool addition to my signed no-hit ticket collection tonight.
Thanks to net54's own, Bud Obermeyer, I was able to pick up a vintage fountain pen signed ticket to Ed Head's no-hitter game on April 23rd, 1946 at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. Thanks Bud! ;) NOTE: I now have tickets to 202 different no-hitter games dating back to 1901 and 138 of them are signed by the pitcher that hurled the no-hitter. PLMK if you have any that you would like to sell. I'm always a buyer for vintage no-hit tickets... Here is Bud's account of how he came to own the no-hit stub, which comes with neat provenance: "Ed Head was a starting pitcher in the Dodgers organization and was in military service during WWII. He returned to the Dodgers for the 1946 season and started his first game on April 23rd at Ebbets Field vs the Boston Braves. Head pitched a no hitter that day. A few weeks later Head injured his shoulder and never appeared in the Major Leagues thereafter. This signed no-hit ticket stub was among the 200+ Brooklyn Dodgers memorabilia items that I (Bud- sic) purchased from the Henry "Henny" Vehling estate in 1991. Vehling was the owner of Henny's Tavern in Glendale, Queens from the 1930s to the 1960s and his tavern was frequented by many of the Brooklyn Dodgers players. Vehling was a major booster of the team and many personal photos of him with players and front office personnel were included in his estate." |

Had a couple great additions to the collection this month. One of Early Wynn's game used baseballs, this one from 1959 over the yankees, making it an instant favorite.
Also added Pee Wee Reese's signed insurance form from when he joined the service in WWII. I'm amazed things like this survive. |

Picked up this pair of seats from Forbes Field. They saw a lot of history including the Babe's last homerun ever in a 3 homerun game! Most of Roberto Clemente's career and Mazeroski's walk off! Honus Wagner and the Pirates in the 1909 World Series!

Ticket collection
I can't help but admire your ambition in this project. It's about love of the game. You, Sir, are the kind of collector I would want to see succeed in every way.
I will keep my eye out for older tickets that fill your needs. Keep posting (that goes for the Aaron collected too) thanks for sharing. |

1971 World Series Key Ring from Balfour... I've been looking for one of these for a long time. I now have the press pins, cufflinks, tie bar, and watch. The world series ring is out of my reach at this time. Does any know if Balfour made a money clip for the 1971 Pirates world series?
