Back Run Bonanza!
1 Attachment(s)
Let's see your active and completed back runs! It's been a while since we've done this and I always love seeing what people are working on...and why.
I've been working on the Herzog Boston backrun for about 2 years now. He and I share the same birthday, and I really like the pose. Almost all of these were acquired via the BST. The best damn place to buy and sell pre-war cards. Bill |

WaJo- Greatest pitcher ever and we also share a birthday. Got a good portion of these from this board. Many thanks.

i also love that herzog pose...probably partially because of large ass!!!! There are some great runs on this board. Here is my pride and joy...thx to many of y'all out there for the help!!!!

I have 2 I'm working on at the moment, the Young shown in the Sept pickup thread and the Davis. I started the Young do to having a couple of the key ones when I was doing sets and freaks (Nadja, blue, E78) and the rest seemed pretty easy from there. The Davis is one of my favorites cards in the E92 set.

This is going to be an amazing thread. I am working on, and have substantially completed, but do not have the time or patience to post right now:
E92 et al: Wagner Batting, Wagner Throwing, and Cobb on bat T206: Tinker bat off, Evers Yellow Sky, Chance Yellow portrait, Speaker D304: Cobb I think back runs are awesome. I also think they are generally terrible investments bc we often (over)pay what we must to get some combos that only matter to us. That can be somewhat mitigated if you collect the better players. These are great runs guys, congrats! Keep’em coming |

I'm probably the one guy on this website who doesn't really care all that much about backs. I collect the cards for the player on the front, lol.

Great cards Dean!

So true! 😂 But I can’t help myself!

There really should be an outfit that is a combination of Cult deprograming, collectors anon, and intensive therapy. Hi, my names Phil and I collect little pictures of men in uniform... (Group) Hi Phil, welcome to the group, would you like a Diet Coke and a cigarette? |

Phil, here's another from the "rabbit hole." Thanks to Bryan L. for creating this presentation of my back run, which unfortunately, I haven't been able to add to in a good while:

And the worst of it is, sometimes you know that guy in Ohio exists, but you can't find him. Btw, great cards everyone! |
Very nice Val, the PVE is incredible.

I've got to say that I am fascinated by these back run collections.
Great stuff. Thanks for posting. Doug |

Couple that I've worked on - getting cost prohibitive to add much more on these right now for me!
|
Nice ones Scott. Love the Matty run. Of course, I'm a little biased. :)
I agree that it's getting too expensive to add anymore. I've definitely stalled out. |

I love these posts, you guys have some awesome stuff in your collections, and this just speaks to me. I don't have anything to my name worth sharing in this thread, but may have to take some steps to address that.

really impressive posts in this thread. back runs are a labor of love, some are easier than others, but when we are talking about cards that are 100+ years old, sometimes even the "commons" can be tougher to find.
I was working on a T206 Krause Portrait back run and had all of the non-very rare backs, excluding the SC 350/25. After looking for months, I just gave up. That was around the time I decided I was going to alter my goal and go for a 520 set. As I've been accumulating cards for the 520, I've decided my secondary goal is going to be to collect sub-sets of the non-super rare backs. For example, the 34 card SC 150/649OP set and a 250 card Polar Bear set. Those will still take a lot of time and money to complete, but I think for me, it will be more satisfying to spend $3000 on 55 Polar Bear backs for a subset instead of spending $3000 on a low grade Carolina Brights card to complete a player back run. If my budget was on par with some of the budgets other board members here have, I would have a number of back run projects in the works. For now, gotta make due with what I have. |
Amazing runs everyone, love the non-T206 ones, seeing some cards/backs I never knew existed.
James the 649 OP subset was the first subset I completed, very fun project. https://live.staticflickr.com/8422/7...15d038f8_b.jpg |

My Red Cobb back run. A Terrible Beauty was the first baseball biography I ever read. I was hooked on Cobb ever since and baseball biographies.

Great thread, love me a good back run! Some amazing cards shown already.
I've started probably 20 different back runs and always ended up buying a tough low pop card I had to have and deciding to sell the common backs from the run. It's cool to see David R's HOF back run again. I didn't remember your name but your collection stuck in my head and after I knocked out a lot of the rare backs, I decided to copy your idea. This is one back run I think I'll finish. I still have a few to get. There are 37 backs in my run and 36 HOFers in the set. So I'm planning to make one collage that has my best cards and then another one that tries to fit all 36 HOFers in. That is a project for another day that I haven't started trying to figure out yet. |
Love those Cobb’s, Chad!
Bill |
Amazing Luke, you have most of the tough ones, Young BL/RH and Speaker Drum are fire :cool:

You have some great ones! I had a really hard time finding a BL460 HOFer and had to settle on condition. You found a great one. Lots of super tough cards. My goal was to get all the backs with a different HOFer on the front and to include all the Cobbs, Mattys, Youngs and Johnsons. David R |

I still need a T213-1 to complete the Greminger run.
Andy |
A neat "short-n-sweet" back run. Lundgren (Cubs) was printed with only 3 backs.
I've included my "blue-less" Lundgren printing error card to complement this run. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...n4versions.jpg .http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...n4versions.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |
Nice Greminger run, Andy. That Red Sun back is amazing. You wouldnt happen to have an extra copy of his T206 OMSL back, would you?
|
Man this thread is "En Fuego"! Super fun!..I'll try to post a few things later today.

Hi Bill You have a great run there. Herzog (Boston) is one of my favorite T206 cards, too. I once owned this Herzog, then I sold it to David Hall. If I still had it, I would offer it to you. Since David auctioned off his master set, this Herzog is somewhere out there. Here's hoping you will eventually end up with it. https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...erzogSGC45.jpg . https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...ogUZITx37b.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |
