Net54baseball.com question and answer
Ok...I am not trying to be a ball hog here, in that this will be my 3rd thread today. I have gone quite a while with not too many new threads.
Since this year began we have had 42 new members join. That is probably about average for how it's been going. Those new members might have questions AND it seems that every day I can't believe that some of our old veterans of the board ask questions that I am amazed they are asking.:) I would hope they would have arleady known those answers. Everyone is encouraged to look at different areas of the board. The dark line that has words in it that start with the words "User CP" on the left, has places under each and every one of those words to the right. There is neat Chatroom. Under the Community tab there is a place to post albums of pictures, a members list and a contact info area. There is a public Calendar that EVERYONE can use and change and contribute to (if you so desire). There are several other informational areas too. In addition to those things, we have a number of forums in the "Postwar cards and Watercooler Talk" section, under it's icon at top, including football, boxing etc.... Those sections seem to have picked up some steam lately. So, if anyone has questions, suggestions, comments etc....feel free to post them here. If there are no posts/questions/comments, then so be it :). Just thought I would offer. best regards (I really need to get this crossed over, or at least cracked out of this case:o) http://luckeycards.com/peuncorangeborderwags.jpg |
I'll start the ball rolling.... If a man walked around the equator of the Earth, how much further would his head go than his feet? Assume that the man is 6 feet tall.
:) As soon as this question is answered, someone else can ask another question. (Just kidding, of course.) |
Thirty seven point seven feet.
|
David:
You are correct! That engineering background of yours is still shining through! Good job! OK... Next question... |
What George Harrison song is Brett Favre's theme song? (hint: it's a joke)

Not exactly a question, but finish this bumper sticker--
"My wife said if I buy ONE MORE baseball card she'll leave me"-- "God -- - ----- ---- ---! (Randy got it--Post 11) |
What is my favorite color?

question
what word is missing?
Remember: The ______ wants you to quit. Don't listen to it. or if this is too difficult, try this one: what word is missing? Remember: The Monster wants you to quit. Don't ______ to it. best of luck, best, barry |
If Mama Cass would have shared half of her ham sandwich with Karen Carpenter would they both be alive today?
|
I've heard that one Jantz...nothing wrong with a little morbid humor.;)
|
I've heard this one somewhere before:
If Phil Rizzuto's wife married Joey Cora, what would her name be? |
Quote:

Cora Cora would be on Bora Bora watching Tora! Tora! Tora!:)
|
Wowah, Wowah, Wowah..... let's go back to those feet and head. Did that head go further or farther?
|
nice
Not quite the questions I was looking for but very nice indeed. Now here's a good one.
Which came first the chicken or the egg? (hint - there is a definitive answer) |
If Tuesday Weld married Bobby Orr, divorced him and married Rick Monday, divorced him and married Ray Knight, divorced him and married the actor Frederic March III, her name would be:
Tuesday Orr Monday Knight March III (I actually heard that one from Tim McCarver). |
Frank- to me "further" and "farther" are interchangeable, but I believe there is a nuance between them. If you know please share.
Leon- I'll guess the egg. |
Cheer up my brother, live in the sunshine
It's OK, Frank. Brad got his Ph.D. in Aeronautics Engineering from Wharton.

Is that 37.7 feet really true, or is it a joke? I have no idea. If it is true, how do you calculate it?
|
Invoking the further/farther rule
Brad, I think Alex Trebek would reject David's answer. The question refers to time rather than distance.
|
good guess

Leave your zipper down in case you have to count to eleven
It's really true.
Circumference of Earth: C=2πr [Circumference equals 2 times pi times radius] Circumference of track of six foot tall man's head circumnavigating Earth: C=2π(r+6) Subtract the former from the latter and you get the further (f): 2π(r+6)-2πr=f Expand the equation, you get: 2πr +12π -2πr=12π=12(3.1416)=37.7' further Unclerube: Maybe he hits a timewarp along the way. |
This Is Especially for Barry
Can you eat your cake and have it, too?
|
Leon- why the egg? Why not?
David- glad I asked. I recognized pi, the rest was a little hazy Kevin- I don't like cake:( |
Let's Try a Different Approach...
Assuming you like pie (or pi)...
Can you eat your pie and have it, too? :) It's more about the sentence than the food! Most people say it backwards. From Wikipedia: The phrase's earliest recording is from 1546 as "wolde you bothe eate your cake, and have your cake?" (John Heywood's "A dialogue Conteinyng the Nomber in Effect of All the Prouerbes in the Englishe Tongue") alluding to the impossibility of eating your cake and still having it afterwards. The modern version (where the clauses are reversed) is a corruption which was first signaled in 1812. |
I went to George Washington University... Not Wharton...
I found out a few days ago that my great, great, ..., great grandfather was friends with George Washington... I thought that was pretty neat... Are PETA people allowed to use the word "FURther"? |
It's an expression. Expressions shouldn't be taken literally.

Was joking, Brad. The Wharton reference was for another Board member not known for his absolute command of orthography.

David, Are you insinuating that someone's brain is not able to communicate with the board's "writing mechanism?" |
I think...therefore I am......

Leon: Where are you going with this? :o |

Lost me there. Was the egg inside the chicken or the chicken inside the egg. |

An enigma yes, but Leon claims to have solved it. The egg is in his court.

Spring . . the bird is on the wing.
But dat's absoid! The wing is on the boid. -ancient Mad Magazine bit PS. Leon: That Orange Border Wagner would look great in an SGC slab. |
Spring is sprung.
The grass is ris. I wonder where the boidy is. (Ancient Brooklyn Schollboy Poem.) |
This is an etc.
Early in the morning late at night.
Two good boys got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other. Drew their swords and shot each other. A deft policeman heard the noise and shook the life out of those dead boys Now if you don't believe my story is true ask the blind man he saw it too. |

Farther is used when actually or metaphorically speaking of distance. He can hit a ball farther than anyone. He went farther up the corporate ladder than any of his peers. Further is used when speaking of non tangible progression. He was able to further his ideas with the forum. |

Wow. If this board turns into Creationism vs. Evolution, I'm out of here.
I already live in Texas where the Board of Education debates it every year. :D |
