Watching this badly faded, early 1970s (not 1960s as described) Raiders pennant eclipse $2,000 got me to thinking. What is the early 1970s baseball equivalent? If there is one, I've never seen it. I'm not sure I've seen a 1970s baseball pennant sell for more than $200-$300...if that.

Then I got to thinking...If we listed the 10 most valuable pennants of the first half of the 20th century, they'd all be baseball. No surprise there. But what if we listed the 10 most valuable pennants of the second half of the 20th century. Would they all be football? The rise in popularity of football is attributed to the 1950s and often to the "Greatest Game Ever Played", but has anyone ever noticed that's where the pennant value tipping point occurs too?

What are the baseball pennants post say 1956 that approach $2000 in value? The only that come to mind would be the 3D pennants but are those post 1956? Below are the early bookends to big money football pennants with the Raiders above likely the modern one. I know there are multiple factors that play into this but it's still very interesting to me that if you're talking big money pennants of the last 70 years, you're largely talking about football pennants.

For post war baseball pennants there's a number that would sell for over $1,000. The Mickey Mantle ASCO Photo Pennant comes to mind and the 1955 World Series tassel pennants, 1972 Clemente Memorial, Willie Mays, etc.

The selection grows a lot in the $500+ range, depending on the condition of course. Not all pennants are as bright as that 1970s Oakland Raiders penannt :D But a number of the ASG and World Series pennants would cross the $500 threshold and possibly the Koufax ASCO photo pennant.

Ouch! Isn't it routine to have a dialog about packing method with pennants, though?

That's unacceptable.

Oooh...charging high postage and using a cheap option....that's one of my pet peaves.

As an example, I try to avoid using ebay standard envelope for cards because I've had unreliable delivery with that service. The number of times that a listing shows USPS Ground Advantage and charges postage commensurate with that but I end up getting an ebay standard envelope service. Arghhhhhhh

Was your pennant OK after ironing?

Not patting myself on the back, but almost as soon as I started collecting pennants decades ago I made sure to communicate with sellers as to how they were going to be shipped, and get them to change it if I wasn't satisfied with their method. Hard to believe the uber-advanced pennants guys on this thread wouldn't be doing the same.

It was fine. No positive feedback for the seller, though. Besides the shoddy packaging, it took him like 10 days to even get it in the mail.

Any help? Looking for a 1953 Necco Wafers New York Yankees 5.5"in pennant to complete the rare 16 team set with ad. I also have an extra NY Giants (blue/white) for trade. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
