A couple recent wins that just arrived.
I was bidding on the more centered/colorful copy when I came across the second one. It also came with another Art Ross Trophy card, which I didn't need, but thought I had better bid in case I missed out on the 1st card. (All OPC cards) Needless to say, I ended up winning both auctions, which I am pretty happy about. Both cards look ex/mt to me but maybe the best one even higher as other than a slight corner touch on the top left, the card is perfect, imo. |

So funny story on this one:
http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...th%20Blood.jpg 1925 Exhibit Champions Passaic HS basketball team w/HOFer Ernest Blood (coach, on the far left). I had been collecting the 1925 Champions set for many years. I got to 31/32 cards with this one then spent a couple of years in limbo waiting for a final card which I did not even have the name of. Turns out it was a pool player named Ralph Greenlief [sic: Greenleaf]. Eventually I decided to sell off the set except the Ruth. Less than a year later I stumble across a group of them that has not only the Greenlief but this one too. The two toughies of the set. So I bought it because there are so few known examples. ETA: Flipped them already. |

Nice Orr. Love the oddball type stuff like that, and it tugs at me to expand my Orr collection. Keep the hockey coming, love it.

Not sure if he gave them to me or just forgot to take them home but either way, I decided to check them out again and put a few in sleeves and top loaders. Most are creased/damaged, including this Orr, which has a horizontal dent across his name, but I still thought it was worthy of the top loader. |

Guess i never added this one to this thread 1966 Orr JD mccarthy with period signature. Couldn’t find too many of these online, but it appears that most are personalized

And a few more recent PU's.
Does anyone know the story behind the Yellow Bobby Orr print on the back of this Vezina card? I learned they carried a bit of a premium but just how rare are they? I noticed another Trophy card with Phil Esposito in yellow on the back and although it didn't go for crazy money, it went for more than I thought it would as I got pounded right at the end. |

Was going to bid on a hard to get/somewhat rare OPC Don Lever card from the 72-73 set then decided to check some of my old cards. Glad I did as the card I was bidding on finished at $45 CDN. :o

I was offered this card from a seller who I had saved in my watch list. I counter offered and he accepted.
Prior to this I asked him if there was anything else wrong with the card other than the stain I could see at the top center/left and of course the less than ex/mt condition. The seller replied, no, what you see is what you get. Today I received the card and immediately noticed, once I tilted the card a bit, a crease/large wrinkle running from top to bottom. I also immediately submitted my first ever ebay return and was quickly refunded my money but was also told to keep the card. The seller asked me if the pkg was damaged, to which I replied it wasn't. The envelope, cardboard inside and the top loader were in great shape. No further word at this point from him so I can only assume he missed this large wrinkle somehow? I wasn't expecting my first ever EBay return to go quite this good, but I'll take it. :D |

I continue pursuit of these early Parkhurst cards adding seven hits '55-'56 set also a '57-'58 Ted Sloan and a '58-'59 Boom Boom Geoffrion. I still need a ton of 1951s but I'm closing in on a 1952-1963 full set run. I'm 87% complete with 695 cards out of the 799 needed. One card at a time!

Been pretty slow for me lately but have been managing the odd CDN (one U.S) pick up here and there.
Also decided to take a better scan of my rough Tony Esposito RC, which seem to be relatively hot lately. I've had this one since I was a kid but can't remember if I pulled it myself or not? (not likely) Also decided to grab a Alex Ovechkin Parkhurst RC as his Young Guns RC has gone through the roof lately. I also have a Sidney Crosby Parkhurst RC on the way due to the same issue. |
Always enjoy your shows, especially like that Mikita. But, is it just me, or does Gainey look like he is being booked for minor possession?
|
Quote:
I always enjoy your posts as well. Yeah, it is definitely a different pic of Mr. Gainey. Like you said, either a mug shot for a crime or he thought he was getting his pic taken for a driver's license or something similar where they tell you to look straight ahead and don't smile. :D Any other card that I have seen in the set, pretty much everyone else either has a smile or grin or is looking away a bit. I'm sure, since this is his RC, he likely wishes it didn't turn out like that? |

Some recent pick ups including the Oshawa Generals card of Eric Lindros.
I never missed a home game when he played but wasn't collecting cards back then so I never bothered with these. I seen a recent, pre covid, interview with Eric Lindros and Tara Sloan talking about the reason why he didn't sign with Quebec. I knew there was something, and maybe this had already been disclosed, but he said he wouldn't have put on the sweater nor signed with Toronto if Marcel Abut owned/ran the Leafs. Without saying it, Eric knew things about Abut back then and despised the man. He also talked about how he was smeared in the media because Abut had the money and the means and was able to do that with ease. I'm bias being from Oshawa but I always felt he got a bum rap. He was an awesome player but most will remember him based on how the media portrayed him. (Vid of interview below, and I was glad to see Eric, after the fans found out the story, welcomed him back) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm1b3_u4c9U https://nationalpost.com/sports/olym...he-was-a-minor https://www.thestar.com/sports/2015/...ct-arthur.html |

A big p/u for me this afternoon. :)
I'm not sure what it is exactly with this card, but I have wanted this card for more than a while now. Of course an Orr rookie would top it, but for some reason, despite his other 67 cards, this one has always been my favorite. (How it is only a 6 is beyond me?) |

When I first noticed the photo of it, I didn't think the centering was as good as it was (phone pic) but was more than happy to see it was much better than what I was expecting. Prior to this one I was chasing a 7.5 but the person was firm on their price despite some print defects on the front. I gave up and luckily found this one much cheaper and in much better looking condition, imo. (recent 68-69 OPC that just arrived below in likely G-VG condition) Quote:

Another Orr p/u. This card is surprisingly hard to find centered and when you do, usually a justified premium is added.

A new addition but before I post pics, I have to acknowledge the best seller I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with on EBay in, texasholdem.
I purchased this mint looking OPC 68 Eddie Shack card just the other day and although it was described as nrmt, the seller, prior to shipping the card to me, noticed a very tiny wrinkle by the Boston Bruins logo in the top left corner, so when I received my card today, the full purchase amount, plus shipping, was included with the card. If the seller never pointed out this tiny, little, almost invisible to see, wrinkle, it is highly unlikely I would have ever noticed it. Texas sells Baseball cards, hockey, and an assortment of other sport occasionally and I highly recommend him for those looking to add to their collections. Tex goes above and beyond every time and his feed back is reflected in that. And no, for the record, I do not know him on a personal level nor have I ever met him. |

A few new arrivals. The Bobby Orr is the Lipton Soup card but because there are no visible cut lines, it would likely only grade an "A"?

Oooohhh, now we're talking (note my username haha). Those other two guys were decent as well, but loving the Kurri.

With how new/recent these cards are, comparatively, I was hoping to find higher grade examples but at $20 dollars each CDN delivered, I couldn't refuse them. |

Quote:
As far as grading goes and different companies, I likely have cards from almost everyone but not once have I sent a card in, personally, to get graded. I have heard/read numerous stories about KSA, all from severely negative to highly recommended but I personally have no idea how true any of them are? I heard under the old ownership one had to be careful but I have quite a few times now the new guy, Nate, is suppose to be on top of his game? They certainly don't have wide hobby appeal nor do they carry the same clout/value as SGC or PSA graded cards, but so far so good, imo, with the cards I have purchased. All fit the cases/slabs perfectly and none show any signs of shenanigans as far as my eyes can tell. |
Quote:
I pretty much buy the card, not the grade nor the company. That Kurri 7 is indeed a nice one, I have had a nice 7 and a poor 7 (both PSA). I imagine that happens a certain percentage of the time with all of the grading companies. Just part of the deal I guess. |

I also like the cards from that era, especially the Gretzky :D. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have purchased a OPC BVG 6 for $600 a few years ago. I thought it was a lot of money back then, and it was, but I could have easily doubled it now as they seem to be on fire. :( I am getting there with my collection. Outside of concentrating on my 52's, I pretty much have a mish mash of everything. (most in my link below) I just watched a 67-68 Orr All Star card end. I wanted to bid but due to the sellers feedback and description of the card (VG) plus the fact I'd have to pay 13% sales tax on it, I decided against it. I think I made the right decision but due to the cards centering, it was tough not to bid. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1967-68-TOPP...orig_cvip=true I'm not sure what I am going to chase next? I recently got burned on a Darryl Sittler RC that came creased so with that one on its way back, I will likely try to find another one? |
I'm still picking up cards to complete my vintage Parkhurst run. The cards are available, but I may just need to get up off my wallet and pay.
1952-1963 I now need 59 cards (I'm collecting the '51 series as well but I need ALOT LOL). Batters Box and Greg Morris cards continue to supply, and these arrived today. I use the old Tuff Stuff price guide which is online I really don't know how accurate it is https://www.tuffstuff.com/priceguides 1953 Doug Harvey #26 cost me $28 which is a little less than 20% "book"and just 2 more cards left to complete my set. 1958 "All Eyes On the puck" cost me $11.13 a touch more than 20% book and just 4 cards left to complete my set. 1959 Carl Brewer cost me $6.13 about 6% book I need just two more cards for my set.
