Nice, Mark! That looks great. It almost matches the purple pennant I first posted a few months ago.

I'm not sure of the exact age of these pennants, but the purple was a color associated with the Giants before orange and black. I think they first used orange and black in the mid 1930s.

I'll try to find the teal version... which suggests that the pennant color may have had as much to do with available stock as opposed to teal colors.

I attended my first major league game in 1961. As great as watching the actual game was, equally as thrilling for me was if we arrived early enough to check out the many vendors outside the ballpark. I was always allowed one souvenir and what a tough decision. Anyway, my point to all this is I have never believed pennant makers were ever worried about the team colors, but did want a variety of colors as children always have a favorite color. Never once did I think about team colors when deciding on a particular pennant. Of course I’m sure the makers also used what they had on hand, but always bought a variety of colors so as to please all kids. As I recall, all pennants had at least 4 or 5 different colors to choose from and never once was my decision based on a teams colors.

Mark- is your purple pennant full size? Or 3/4?

It is 3/4 size, just like the others. But unlike the purple pennant you recently posted, it's thick felt, as opposed to cloth.

Your purple pennant with orange tassels is the best example of that particular pennant I've seen. No fading whatsoever, and clean as a whistle. Not sure why, but that pennant is almost always found torn and tattered. Awesome find!

New acquisition from 1937. Has “Charles Shear” tag on back. Does anyone have the “sister” Yankees version? I think there are a couple.

I know this post is over a year old....but I picked up this 1936 pennant with the Charles Shear tag on the back. I think I'm equally as excited by the tag as I am the pennant.

Excited to add this to my collection of Tiger pennants. It's not in the best shape and needs a little cleaning but overall I'm happy to have it, especially since I've never seen one come up for sale before.

If you’re a team collector (and I think you are), you’ve gotta jump on stuff you’ve never seen, even if the condition is less than ideal. Great find!

Looks like they "borrowed" the Cincinnati Bengals first year Tiger mascot for this one. They took the football out of his paws and lost the flying helmet. Makes sense in terms of the timing as well (1968).

Interesting, as the Tigers seemingly had endless Tiger designs to draw from (without having to steal from the lowly Bengals!) First time I've seen this one... great find!

My favorite Tiger is the Slightly Disapproving Parent Tiger

Cool pennant. Not many dated pennants from the 1930s. Which raises a question. Why is it that there are so few identifiable pennants from the 1920s? Seems like there are many more from the teens than the decade that followed. It appears that it didn’t pick back up until the mid 30s.

Mark? Domer?
