This All Star Photo I believe is from 1971 based on Munson (#15) and Lolich (Detroit) in the photo. Brooks Robinson and Harmon Killebrew are also in the photo. I am not sure who the Red Sox player in the middle is but am thinking it is Luis Aparicio. Could be the Red Sox pitcher Siebert. Anyway, this is a very nice photo of two HoF (Brooks and Harmon) and two pretty good players (Munson and Lolich). If that is Aparicio, he was an amazing HoF player, too. Back to the photo, it looks like everyone is following Brooks (ha!). It looks like the game ended with the AL winning and everyone is congratulating Lolich as the pitcher winning the game.

Yes, this picture is after the final out from the 1971 All Star Game. Johnny Bench popped out as Brooks made the final play catching the ball on the mound, and then he tosses the ball to Lolich. One of the most fantastic All Star Games with 10 Hall of Famers in the starting lineup, and 10 other Hall of Famers on the bench, for a total of 20 (22 if you include the managers). All the scoring was done on Home Runs from 6 different Hall of Famers.

Here is my recap of the broadcast (and the commercials):

Thanks for the feedback on the 1971 AS game last out picture. The colored pictures, too. I especially enjoyed your link about the game. Thanks!

Baltimore Orioles “Get Nasty” sign

2 Attachment(s)
Day 248 – 5 September 2024
Not sure about this sign measuring 13 x 10 inches. The sign is two sided and says “Get Nasty” on one side and the other saying Clobber Cleveland. My guess is this is from 1997 during the Play Offs in 1997. I guess the fan would wave during the game. Anyone know exactly?

Today marks the 29th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr. tying Lou Gehrig's consecutive game streak at 2130 games....

Recently I acquired the scoresheet that the Official Scorer of that game personally kept that evening:

1971 Crown Baltimore Orioles Pocket Schedule

3 Attachment(s)
Day 249 – 6 September 2024
This 1971 Crown Baltimore Orioles Schedule featuring Brooks Robinson and Paul Blair eluded me for quite a while. I really love this photo of Brooks on the cover. It had some damage on the corner but otherwise is nice enough. It features the schedule of the 1970 WS Champions. Crown Gasoline had the best advertisements with the Orioles and Brooks. I would love to find the sticker of Brooks that was affixed to the Gasoline pumps. I have seen one. This one evades me, too, but someday I will find one.

roarfrom34 09-06-2024 07:29 AM

with today being the anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr. surpassing Lou Gehrig for the most consecutive games record, I thought I'd share this signed/inscribed game worn jersey of starting leftfielder Mark Smith, who wore this jersey in both the 2130 and 2131 contests:

https://i.imgur.com/AQ8uRlZ.png?1https://i.imgur.com/jiZTRvG.png?1https://i.imgur.com/dMLyhnD.jpg

Was anyone from this board fortunate enough to be at these games?

Baltimore Orioles 1982 Bumper Sticker Sign

1 Attachment(s)
Day 250 – 7 September 2024
I really enjoy collecting Baltimore Oriole related bumper stickers. This sign fits into that category. I thought this was hung at Memorial Stadium but was corrected. In 1982 you would find these at Crown Gas Stations. The gas attendant I guess, if asked, would hand out bumper stickers. The sign says “Ask Attendant.” The sign is made of cardboard and measures 12 in X 19 in. Anyone know what bumper stickers were provided free of charge?

roarfrom34 09-07-2024 12:45 PM

Charlie my recollection was those bumper stickers were handed out at gas stations (Crown most likely) and not at Memorial Stadium

1966 Martin Family Night team photo. Thinking this may be the only one known (as I don't see any posted from you all in the past) I actually haven't seen a team photo from any other year Martin Family night.

What's interesting is the back is the exact same as the front, the same image on both sides. Like it was meant to be hung up on glass or something. Two pinholes on each upper corner so maybe it was hanging somewhere at the stadium?

All the names you'd expect to see, a young Palmer, Brooks etc. It's quite large, over 8x10. Hard to make out faces on the full size scan, I may rescan just the players one day. Hope you all enjoy. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6af44e4eb7.jpg

Another sign today but this one is from Camden Yards. This sign is made of thick plastic and was found on the back side of a Coca Cola Fountain Drink Dispenser facing customers. The sign measures 15 in X 23 in. It has the Junior Bird and says “O(s)fficial Refreshment” with a Coca Cola and the Scoreboard.

Chstrite 09-07-2024 10:17 PM

Thanks for the feedback on the Bumper Sticker sign, Bill. That makes more sense as far as “asking the attendant.”

Chstrite 09-08-2024 08:01 AM

Lucas, I have not seen the Martin Family Night Photo from 1966. I have a few of the MFN Programs/scorecards, a hat handout, and the cards from 1964. I have about 6 extra cards to include Brooks. If you want to donate the photo, keep me in mind. Thanks for sharing.

1989 Board Game - Statis-Pro Baseball-You Are the Manager

2 Attachment(s)
Day 252 – 9 September 2024
I have a few Orioles related games. This one is from 1989 called Statis-Pro Baseball-You Are the Manager. The game includes a board, score sheets, instructions, cards and 10 packs of team playing cards from various years to include the Orioles from 1969. You can see the Oriole players at bottom of photo that includes Brooks, Frank, Palmer and a few others from the team in 1969. The cover of the box includes a photo of Brooks Robinson (top right). It looks pretty complicated. Has anyone ever played?

1971 Baltimore Orioles “Best In Baseball Sign

1 Attachment(s)
Day 253 – 10 September 2024
Not sure the purpose of this sign. It is from 1971 reflecting back on Dave McNally’s Grand Slam Homerun in Game 3 of the 1970 WS. The sign would look a lot better without the bottom white section (Orioles vs. Oakland handwritten). At the top it says “Best in Baseball!” Below the picture of McNally touching Homeplate being congratulated by his excited and surprised teammates it says “Grand Slam Action!” with the bird and his crown. On the reverse side the Oakland Athletics laid out the locker room in hand written form of all their players and their assigned lockers. The sign is cardboard and measures 13 in X 17 in (approximately).

roarfrom34 09-10-2024 05:20 AM

Charlie-

Great Ad piece! Dave McNally remains to be the only pitcher to hit a Grand Slam in World Series history...

One of the favorite pieces in my collection is the lineup card from that game that was taped to the Orioles dugout wall that afternoon (also was the game that Brooks Robinson made that iconic catch off the bat of Johnny Bench):

https://i.imgur.com/vEWvzxg.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/kimL5bM.jpg

RIP James Earl Jones....Back in the early 1990's Mr. Jones did some work promoting the C&P Yellow Pages & here is an ad slick of him and Cal Jr. that I was fortunate to have both sign (I like how Jones' signature is nearly identical to the facsimile version):

Today’s sign is one of my favorites from Memorial Stadium back in 1983. The sign is bright Orange with White Letters signed by Brooks Robinson. The sign is celebrating Brooks Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the White Sox game that evening (August 5, 1983). The sign measures 19 in X 15 in (approximately).

Possibly displayed in the ticket windows. If so, then it would make sense to have the team they are playing; in your case “Oakland”. Personally I don’t think it detracts at all with the team name written below.

Also, just a side note, McNally hit the HR in ‘70 not in ‘71 nor in ‘24 ;). You’re just making sure we’re paying attention…

Actually I think that McNally sign was used (most likely in '71) in conjunction with Group Ticket Sales...Companies who purchased a grouping of tickets for a particular game were given these poster(s) along with the tickets and the Group would be responsible to write in the opponent, date, etc. in that open white area (to promote the game at the office, shop or wherever)....In this case the company just wrote the opponent in....

Chstrite 09-11-2024 03:59 PM

Mark, yep. Typos. I think October 2024 came from a future post. The sign is from 1971 celebrating his GS from the previous year WS (1970). Did not know about the group tickets and how the signs were given out and displayed. I have another one I may post. I corrected the post. Getting sloppy.

Adding to Marks Fan Post. Here is a trio of Snapshots taken at the 1966,1967 and 1968 Bethlehem Steel Night games. The cardboard cutouts show Curt Blefary (interesting choice!) and Frank in 1966, Clank and Frank! While 1967 and 1968 show Boog and Brooks. I really like how the snaps are in labeled envelops (aside from 68). I wonder if the shots were developed right then and there? Polaroid land cameras were self developing and the outer envelopes have the nice branding. But I dont know why they say A POLAROID COLOR PRINT when in b&w, maybe a bit cheaper? Hope you all enjoy. Being a snapshot collector I really like these.

Blefary was the A.L. ROY in 1965 (which may have influenced the choice)

Lucas,

Those are such neat items; thanks for posting. I’ve never really have seen these before with the exception of a photo on the Fleer Sticker Project where Brooks and Blair are pictured in one of the Bethlehem Steel Night games with a young girls head on Etch’s (I think) body. They were wearing the vest type jerseys so I’m unsure of the year of the game.

I’ve viewed your snapshot collection in the past; very NICE!

Darren,

I always thought that the players were there and they had a cutout in the middle for the kid to put his/her head to take a pic. When Lucas posted a photo from different years with the same players with the same pose I realized they were “all” cutouts. So, you definitely weren’t the only one.

Today I am showing you a Type 1 Photo of Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell and Frank Robinson each receiving awards in 1966. Each signed the photo. Frank is holding a plaque from Sports Magazine on and wearing a crown. Not sure exactly what the plaque is. Frank won league MVP with his triple crown season and WS MVP. Brooks and Boog are holding some type of plaque as well. Brooks won the gold glove, AS game MVP and Lou Gehrig Memorial Award in 1966. Boog won the comeback player of the year award in 1966. Can’t read a lot of detail on the awards. The photo is signed by all three Oriole Hall of Famers. It measures 7.5 in X 8 in.

Baltimore Orioles Sign 1974

1 Attachment(s)
Day 257 – 14 September 2024
Similar to my post on 10 September 2024, I am showing you a sign used possibly for groups or companies buying a section of tickets for their members or employees. In turn, the group or company would write in the name of the team the tickets were for to advertise the game. The Orioles would give the sign to the group or company for internal marketing purposes. Mark Comer provided some insights (thought maybe it was displayed in ticket windows) and later Bill (roarfrom34) did as well on 11 September 2024 post 2,945, which is described above. The sign today is blank at the bottom (Orioles vs. _____) and says “See an Award Winning Show – Catch the Orioles in Action at Memorial Stadium.” This sign measures 13 in X 17 in and is made of cardboard. The players on the board and description below leads me to believe this board is from 1974 given Grich won his first Gold Glove in 1973, Bumbry was RoY in 1973, and Weaver received his first of three Manager of the Year Awards in 1973. Similar, with Blairs 6th GG, Brooks 14th GG, the Blade’s 3d GG and Palmer’s Cy Young Award. My research though falls a little short on Tommy Davis. He was not selected for the AL Outstanding DH until 1974 but he was 3rd in the batting race in 1973 with a .306 mark and placed 10th in MVP voting. I have not framed this sign yet.

That is a good one! Nice to see an item that I haven’t seen before.

Just wondering on Tommy Davis; he could be “League Leading” in a wide variety of categories, walks, errors, strike outs, hit by pitch, etc., since they didn’t specify.

Actually, Davis was indeed the #1 rated DH in 1973, hitting .293 with 83 RBI in that role (check out the cover of the '74 Media Guide)

Bill and Mark, agree. He (Davis) had a great season in 1973 at DH. That was the first year of DH.

You will see a couple Adam Jones tags on left by the baseball cards. You then see Mullis at the top. I like the ASG Ty Wigginton below Mullins. The Palmeiro one is nice. The Hays is nothing special but he was a great Oriole. I really like the 2022 Little League Classic for Wells. The Surhoff one is nice. The ones to the right are bigger and some familiar names. The two above the microwave have magnets so why not decorate the ManCave kitchen.

Really like the locker room name tags. I have ZERO, but really like how you have them displayed. I had an opportunity years ago to pick up a Brooks example, but it was just his name written in hand. I believe it was the real deal, but did pass.

Oh, wow, Mark. Sounds interesting. I have seen one of Brooks with Schlitz on it. One of the Net 54 members will likely show it. That would be cool. Thinking about putting them along the top of the wall. Really like the stars and unique ones. No vintage sadly. I do enjoy them.
