I would have posted this much earlier but it took awhile for to find this in my piles of Pirate crap. Nonetheless, this is a 1971 World Series Champion Pirates pennant. I would assume it would have been issued in late in 1971 or 1972. Based on the use of the same font on the word Pittsburgh and the vintage Pirate image it was likely produced by the same company as your Steeler pennants during a similar time frame. I hope this helps.

Anyone have a 1943 "Steagles" or 1944 "Card-Pitts" pennant?

It does thanks! Cool Pirates pennant too.

OK...So now...

I'm questioning the origins of this pennant. Thinking this might be early 70's as well? I thought early 60's when I bought it. Either way, I haven't seen many of this one.

I say early 60s....AFL took a lot of their early designs from the older NFL pennants. I would think this design would be gone by early 70s
.....still not as nice as that Browns pennant you have :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Wondering if anyone has any information on this Steelers pennant? It's not particularly rare but it's curious to me because it has "Championship - American Conference" on it. The graphic is an old style and Egner's book places it in the 1950's. The Steelers were in the NFL's old American Conference from 1950-52 but never played in even a playoff game during this time. Conference's didnt have championship games back then anyway. They were just called playoffs with the championship pitting the winner from the respective conferences.

Of course, the Steelers played in many American Conference Championship games in the 70's but this pennant obviously isn't from that time period.

Same thing happened with Browns pennant....My guess is they weren't prepared for playoffs/championship, so they grabbed some old stock pennants and printed them up with the championship lettering

This is an old Browns pennant from the 40s.....

When the Browns won championship in 1964, that pennant reappeared as a 1964 Championship pennant

I think the same thing happened with your pennant

Remember the old ads in TV Guide that asked you to sketch and submit a cartoon drawing? The "winner" would get discounted art lessons or something. Well I think that's how the Ad Flag Pennant Company hired their artists. I have some Ad Flags in my collection and they are universally just ugly-a** pennants. Look at this Brooklyn Dodgers pennant. I have to have it, I am a collector and it is Brooklyn after all. But the guy looks less like a bum and more like a sex offender. And why the huge claw-like hand? This Phillies "quaker" pennant started giving me the creeps so I took it down, I might have to bury it in the backyard before it gives me bad dreams. And what is he stepping on ... is that a base or a box of Tastykakes?

On top of the bad art, they were often poorly cut (crooked, as with scissors) and the old-style designs have confused many collectors, as evident by this discussion ... I'm guessing these weren't sold in the ballparks but instead in the parking lots or back alleys.

First of all, this is a rare Jets pennant and I'm sure a lot of people would need this for their collection. With that being said, oftentimes these styles were used for several teams hence the same design as the Steelers. Very generic and easy to change to whatever game or notations needed for that time. Oftentimes these designs were used for many years and "pulled out" when needed. Some sold better than others and some are very rare. Bottom line, nice pennant.

Ps: same thing goes for baseball and oftentimes sold outside the stadium for many years

Showdawg: Makes sense. BTW...I found another guy with the same Browns pennant I have. Unfortunately, he's not ready to sell either. I was going to put him in touch with you.

Thetahat: LOLOL. Hilarious write up. You're right. Super creepy sex offender and I don't know much about baseball but wasn't it "Dem Bums"?

Duluth: Thanks for the information. As always, I appreciate your input.

Dug through my pennants for the first time in a while and started taking pictures of the less common ones. They're not all in the best of condition, but they come around so infrequently, I don't care. I'll put a "few" up here on the boards....hope no one minds. :)

Sorry for the bad pics...The tips are all intact. I'm just a lousy photographer.

That's a crease in the Redskins pennant not a rip and a reflection on the Lions pennant not a stain. I love that Giants pennant but it's my most tragic pennant story. It was shipped to me unprotected, flat between two long cardboard pieces...which were completely mummified with packing tape. I almost dialed 911 as I needed the jaws of life to extract it. As I cut through the tape...not knowing the pennant was loose inside, I put a three inch incision in the bottom, under the "G" in Giants. Still PO'd about that. Haven't seen another of these since then.
