Day 200
For a while now, I have Been trying to collect Pirates pocket schedules for each year that Roberto played. This has proven to be a somewhat difficult task, especially the schedules from the 1950s & also 1960. I picked up the 1956 in a group lot and was content thinking that this would be the earliest I would get as I had never seen one from 1955. https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...esSchedule.jpg About 8 months later, this popped up on eBay.... 1955 Pittsburgh Pirates pocket schedule https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...ScheduleBk.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...esSchedule.jpg https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...nte/img743.jpg |

Anyone see the closing prices in Heritage last night
Clemente Rookie PSA 9 - last 2 according to PSA sold for 468K and 478K respectively - last night - 260K
https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-c...kedLots-101116 On the flip side an SGC 82 (6.5) sold for a whopping $8400!! https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-c...=MyBids-101116 A PSA 8 Yellow letter also sold way below past sales. A few other high grade copies - didn't check them all against previous prices yet Thoughts? |
Hope you realized....

That poster ad looks very cool! |
Quote:
Clemente RCs have come down from when they were hyped 2 summers ago (as have all the other hyped RCs), but centered copies are still going to bring strong prices. People that bought off centered ones the first half of 2016 are going to get crushed if they sell today. I believe people are looking at those old label cards and realizing that they wouldn't bring those grades today and paying less for them. |
Quote:
Great poster Mike!!! I saw that one for sale, I made an offer but was declined. Glad to see you ended up with it. I don’t remember where the other full poster I saw Was auctioned at, I just saved a photo of it. Congrats again! Day 202 1971 Topps Super... https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...ToppsSuper.jpg |

Mike -
Your 1969 Milton Bradley appears to be a 1972. You can tell by the base of the red "1"s. It is much tougher than the 1969 and looks to be in great condition and pretty valuable IMO. Scott |
Good catch Scott

Who is going to the national
Any Clemente guys going to Cleveland? Would love to say hi and talk Clemente for a few. Anyone?
|
I had planned to go this year but just like last year those plans fell victim to reality. Please post any unusual Clemente items you see.

But feel free to keep an eye out for anything I might like! |

-the '58 wht letter in 9 went for more than recent copies, including the same Slusser copy from two years ago -ditto the '71 in 9, about 30% more than recently -the more easily to achieve 9s came in right around their typical range it seemed to me -the '72 and '73 10s came in more or less along the spectrum of the past couple years as well -the '69 super 10 went for much more than 'recently', though this was the first recorded sale in 2 yrs -to me the real surprise was the '57 T salesman panel, which went for much more than I would have guessed, in part since it has no registry value except bragging rights. True there are only 2 cited publicly, so the scarcity is interesting, but they're sort of ugly IMO, in that they're not 'real' issues, complicated by unrelated non-stars attached, back has nothing to do with the front, and I guess I'll stop there. That said, I bid on it myself, pretty hard, and was very much surprised to be pushed into giving up on it--I just really didn't expect that. And since you asked, my one thought/theory is that there could be a new player in town? |
Oh Michael - no new players - just hardcore old ones
Quote:
There is a board member here who is very knowledgeable about the salesman panels and said that they are selling for a lot less now than they used to - even the Clemente with what I bought it for. To me these things are WAY undervalued and underappreciated - With rare exception there are only 2-3 known of any given panel - rarer than many test issues and just as cool (imo). I picked up the 59 Mantle panel from REA also. I have the 1962 Clemente as well. All the best! Howard |

Quote:
I'm very pleased you got it then, rather than falling into the hands of some of the jerk eBay sellers that grab things, slap a 5x BIN price on them, where they languish forever, essentially leaving collectible circulation---that sort of nonsense drives me bonkers. |
|
I really like the 69 deckle proof-beautiful !

Thanks quitcrab, that was a small show pickup for me. |
Do you have a square cut Clemente 68 topps game card? They are much harder to find then the 69 deckles.

Grand Finale?
Great stuff. Just over and over again, great stuff.
I have a sense that come day 365 you'll still have items left to share? Does that mean on day 365 we'll get a sort of Grand Finale with everything there wasn't space for, or might the steady parade continue on into a year two? |
Quote:
Thanks Empty77, that means a lot! I’ll definitely make it to Day 365. I still have some tough items to share, but I think I definitely shot my wad early, lol. After 365, I will probably add to the thread periodically, like David does with his Brock thread. Mike |
Day 220
It took me a while to acquire this next item. It doesn't appear too often and usually goes for a decent amount. Happy to finally purchase one. 1970 Team Issue photo... https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...eamIssue_1.jpg |

Not that I'm aware of
Quote:
I am not sure why, but believe that 70 team issue has eluded me.....unless laying in a box somewhere. Had a great time at the national - actually found a couple of neat Clemente items - 1971 Action photos uncut sheet and Clemente low top sneakers - new with tags in an original box!! Will try to post photos soon. Also picked up a bunch of Pirates cards with my kids for our team collection. |

I don’t know if there are two different sizes for Roberto, but he is on another mirror with 5 or so other players. A friend purchased one from eBay to give me years ago and the seller sent the mirror in a cardboard box with absolutely no extra packaging. Needless to say, it arrived in about 10,000 pieces. |
Quote:
Did you purchase the sneakers from Chuck T? |
|
Chuck T
Quote:
Would that be Chuck Tomasco? Or a different T? In either case, no - Paul Kutch. If you didn't get a 1960 bat fan yet, I ran into an old friend at the national that had one for sale - PM me if you want his contact info. |
Quote:
I still need the bat fan. I would appreciate you sending me his contact info. Do you remember if it was complete and price being asked? Thanks Howard Edit: Was it the r.c. means seller on eBay? |

Does anyone know what I missed in this lot? I was in briefly as I wanted the Rawlings photo. They don't seem to become available often. Nonetheless, I couldn't justify the final price. $647.42 seems a bit excessive to me. When you include shipping it's close to $700.

Always like that image. He's very confident looking there. And satisfied, perhaps, is the sense conveyed.
As most reading here are already aware I'm sure, it gets duplicated in several other issues, which is a little downer in contributing to lack of variety (though your thread goes a long way to curing that), but I suppose if there is going to be a repeating image, then that one is a good one to have been chosen for posterity. |

I had to sell some stuff to raise funds for my divorce - this was one of the items to go. It is a store model glove that got the "gold glove treatment". I have never seen another. I feel better knowing it is in a good home! Hey Mark - another item for your Brooks want list!

Kahn's - 1961? Exhibits Jay Publishing? Also, how many variations of Exhibits and Jay Publishing exist for Clemente? I have a feeling we'll see them all before the 365 days are done...[/QUOTE] This is my best list of that pose being reused, but I am far from a proper expert for differentiating the various and difficult to track/identify team issued photo pack type stuff and whether more can be said about those: ‘47-66 Exhibits ‘58-61 Jay Pub/Pirates team card ‘59 Kahn’s ‘60 Kahn’s ‘61 Kahn’s ‘62 Exhibits red back ‘62 Exhibits black back ‘63 Exhibits Re: exhibits and Jay publishing 'cards' I know of four Exhibit 'variations', all listed above since they all share the same photo under discussion (again, sad face a little since we don't get the variety they gave Mantle or several others that had a few different poses issued over the series). The 'variations' are just backs with stats for '62 (red or black) and '63, and then blank-backed otherwise, for a total of four. By happenstance, also four Jay pubs officially that I know (although I have seen some team photo pack cards referred to as jay pub, so I don't know and guess it depends on the definition or the provenance of the image used and what historically is still known and verifiable about them??) Anyway, there's the early series '58-61 pair, one batting stance, the other the above portrait pose. Then a late series pair '62-65, both in a batting stance, one wearing a cloth cap and the other a batting helmet. |
