RC or Pre RC?

1 Attachment(s)
Mixed info on whether this is his true RC or a pre RC?

Kurri17 11-29-2018 06:02 PM

That's interesting. My first thought was that I didn't understand the confusion, that it was his true RC. A quick search of eBay and I see the 92/93 UD WJC being listed as the RC, so I see the question. For my money, your example is the RC, mainstream issue (that stuff wasn't exactly hard to get, I had a lot and live in TN) from UD, pretty much an addendum to their North American issue. Maybe not the most persuasive of arguments, but I call that the RC. Really nice card regardless.

I know, eh!

I was briefly looking through some cards thinking of some cards I'd like to own and that is when I found this Kayria card.
It was listed as his RC but when I did some further digging, I found another piece that said his 92-93 was his "True" RC?

Like I mentioned in my 1st post, the info is scattered with some reading mine and others reading 92-93. I don't think, for whatever reason(s), it was ever entirely solved/proved?

" Rookie Card: Kariya’s rookie card is in the 1992-93 Upper Deck Hockey set, as a part of its World Junior Championships subset, a good two years before his NHL debut. Like most hockey cards made in the early 1990s, it is very easy to find. A more challenging – and earlier – Kariya card to track down is from the 1991-92 Upper Deck World Junior Championship set, which was sold in Czechoslovakia in 1992"

I thought the same thing, Peter, only I wasn't 100% sure if these cards were the exact ones he was talking about?

Peter_Spaeth 12-03-2018 07:29 PM

Dale yes, just look at what it says on the card.

Both English and Czech writing on the back and they spelled Canada with a K instead of a C so I guess that confirms it.

I just wasn't sure, after I read that piece I bolded, and seen a ton of these myself, if these were the cards he/they were referring too.

Thanks for clearing it up, Peter. :)

"The Batters Box" had a 20% off sale during Black Friday, and I picked up quite a few low grade hits to my Parkhurst sets. Including this 1961 Gordie Howe.

Where I come from isn't all that great
My automobile is a piece of crap
My fashion sense is a little whack
And my friends are just as screwy as me
I didn't go to boarding schools
Preppie girls never looked at me
Why should they?
I ain't nobody
Got nothing in my pocket

[Chorus]
Beverly Hills
That's where I want to be (gimme, gimme)
Livin' in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills
Rollin' like a celebrity (gimme, gimme)
Livin' in Beverly Hills

[Verse]
Look at all those movie stars
They're all so beautiful and clean
When the housemaids scrub the floors
They get the spaces in between
I wanna live a life like that
I wanna be just like a king
Take my picture by the pool
Cause I'm the next big thing

Beverly Hills
That's where I want to be (gimme, gimme)
Livin' in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills
Rollin' like a celebrity (gimme, gimme)
Livin' in Beverly Hills

[Bridge]
The truth is I don't stand a chance
It's something that you're born into
And I just don't belong

[Verse]
No I don't
I'm just a no class, beat down fool
And I will always be that way
I might as well enjoy my life
And watch the stars play

[Chorus]
Beverly Hills

1965 Coca-Cola Gordie Howe and Forbes Kennedy (perforated)

Forbes was kicked out of the league for punching a ref. As I have learned, he was quite the individual!

This was the same game where Pat Quinn knocked out Bobby Orr with a vicious hit (elbow) so tensions were high.

Hello! New to net 54 and collecting as a whole! Thought I’d share my fav card I’ve picked up this year! 1962 Parkhurst, Gilles Tremblay.

Kurri17 04-08-2019 01:24 PM

Very nice, can't go wrong with vintage Parkhurst hockey.

LuckyLarry 04-17-2019 02:10 PM

Look, if you are like me, and you are trying to complete your Parkhurst hockey sets, you will have to shop with the great dealers north of the border. Watch the "small" print that describe shipping costs. Watch if your snipes are US or Canadien currency. Don't watch your mailbox because it will take time. Patience grasshopper.
So I picked up 20 low grade hits to my pathetic 1952 full set attempt. All of these were auctions style listings, and I missed on at least twenty more. Total cost for the cards in US $44.93 and shipping $7.48 US total $52.41 or $2.62 per card delivered which is quite good I think. About 1/2 the cards suffer from slight back damage.
It took 24 days after payment to get the cards to me in Florida but I think it was worth the wait!

I like hockey and I like hockey cards. But I don't know much about the players. Recent eBay win 1960 Parkhurst #3 Johnny Bower arrived today now I need only five cards to complete this set. Card cost $4.52 but $4.48 to ship from north of the border. I was going to post that I might have overpaid a bit for this card, not much though (based on the low grade). But Johnny Bower is a Hall of Famer plus in 2017 he was voted one of hockeys greatest 100 players ever plus he lied about his age to join the military and served in WWII plus it's a pretty awesome card.
