my updates
Added a few in each set:
#1: 343 #2: 64 (all EPDG) |
Frank, I'm fairly new to this board, and I was hoping you could explain something about the Monster number. Suppose I have a printer's scrap of a player, graded PSA Authentic because it was hand cut, and also missing some color. Can I count this scrap card toward my Monster number? I need to know so I can determine my number. Thank you.
By the way, I've said it before but I'll say it again: that seeing through the plastic post was one of the all-time best. |
We accept scrap, miscut, wet sheet, twilight zone registration, heavily stained and mutilated but identifiable cards. We do not accept REPRINTS:eek::eek::eek:.
We also operate on the honor system due the effect of sequestration on the Monster Number Police.:D:D:D |

All right Frank, then my number is 680, since you accept this printer's scrap.

T206
Hey, good morning! @ Sean, no - not finished collecting, just felt like I "completed" T206 and then got into the "now what" stage. I put "completed" in quotes as I never planned on the Big 4, but felt a sense of accomplishment after I got to the threshold. I'll use the $$ from here to focus on other things. I have the E93 set complete minus just the Wagner at present. Have about 50 of the 1914 CJ's which is more a focus now as well as 50's and 60's Topps HOFs in grade 7 or better.
@ Frank - thanks, I hope you will bid! Highlights are the entire set is grade 4 or better with 50-60% 5's and 6's. Only three "3's" (Cobb Green, Demmit and O'Hara) - and nicer 3's (IMO) at that. Brooklyn Dahlen in a 60, Elberfeld Old Mill back in a 50, Walter Johnson port in 60, Matty port in a great looking 60 (centered), in fact - many of the HOF's and SL'ers are 5's. Mostly common back, but a few SOV 460, EPDG, Tolstoi, Cycle, Am Beauty, etc. Bill is going to break up, may lot some of the 4's - thought it better that way than sell as a set. For me, then fun was research and collecting .. got bored when completed. Anyone else get that way..?? |
Congrats Ed, I hope you do well in the auction. I'm happy to have added quite a few of your T206's into my collection over the past years. Kind of bummed that you won't have any more singles for us poor folk :D It's always been great to deal with you.
Sincerely, Clayton |
Frank, Ed has three 3s for sale, Cobb green, O'hara, and Demmitt. I will be disappointed if you don't pick up at least one of them. :D
|
Ed, yes, I felt the same way back in 2008 when I nearly completed the T206. I spent four years putting together a 1965 Topps set -all mint 9. I am still missing one card, Joe Nossek.
When I got close to finishing I returned to T206, and now I try for subsets like a back run or something else interesting. |
Ed...that sounds like an amazing set...best of luck!
|
Kind of ironic that my post preceded Ed's. I sold my entire high grade T206 set in May 2009 in the REA auction. Now one card away from having it back in a couple of grades lower on average, especially some of the key cards. Ed has supplied me with a few over the last year and is a pleasure to deal with. Best of luck with the CJ's.
|
Zero.
And always will be. |
Well, make it 520. Just got Ed Foster. And zero will always be zero.
|
Ed, I'm glad to see that you are just moving your collecting interest to other sets. I have a few of your cards in my set already and will definitely look at your upcoming listings. Good luck with the auction!
|
Thank you
Thank you all for the nice comments, it's been a pleasure dealing with everyone here on Net54 and expect that distinct pleasure will continue! So as not to manipulate Frank's post and bump any more with my set and the sale, I will start a post in the appropriate forum when the cards go in Bill Goodwin's next auction - anticipate mid-April, within the next couple weeks. Will be sold as a set-break, hopefully worthy of your interest and bids!
Thanks again for the kind feedback! Ed |

I got a Scoops Carey tonight on Ebay.
Now my new number is 599. One to go. |
Dropped my collection of t206s to zero a couple months ago..........but back up to 13 total with all being HOFers. :) So looks like my number needs changed.

My number is now up to 104 with a sweet Eddie Collins AB back.

T206
Hello world,
A friend just picked up the last card I needed to complete my T206 set. He's at a show in Washington D.C. Thanks Matt Doyle. My new number is 600. Merrill |
Quote:
That must be a wonderful feeling. Nice job !! Sincerely, Clayton |
With my arrival from Goodwin today, I'm now at 106! Congrats Merrill for hitting 600. That's an awesome accomplishment!
|
Finally!
Bump me up to 519. After 35 years I finally pulled the trigger on a green Cobb and today it is in hand. WOO-HOOO!! Been stuck at 518 for at least 5-7 years. I've had the other three Cobbs for 30 years. For some reason I could never find a green one I liked at the right price. I've never had any interest in Magie or Doyle and Wagner and Plank forget it. I'll consider my set complete at 520. Only the elusive O'Hara to go. Might have to settle for a beater there.
|
Congrats!
|
Hi Frank, can you add 3 for me and mark me down for 445? In the last 2 weeks I've acquired a common, my first Hindu back, and my first autographed T206 (Larry Doyle). Thanks!

But seriously, congratulations on Carey. :) |
It's been a while since I posted an update because, well, there hasn't been enough to update. I snagged a few a month ago but was side-tracked with my BST card purge. Even though the proceeds from the sale are "spoken for", I needed to grab a couple more to convince myself that I AM still a collector. My new MN is 284.9,
My additions are 240. Ed Karger SC150 514. Heinie Zimmermann P350 339. George Mullin (Throwing) SC150 507. Hooks Wiltse (Portrait No Cap) SC350 203. Charlie Hemphill P150 296. Rube Marquard (Portrait) P350 443. Fred Snodgrass (Catching) SC350 126. Bill Dineen (Dinneen) P350 |
Merrill, I just read that you completed your set. Good for you. :)
But now you have to decide "what next." I know it's too soon, but in a few weeks or so you will either look to collect other sets, or go for a T206 subset.Maybe a back run for one player, or some printing anamolies, or some rare backs? Let us know where your collecting takes you next. |
up to 502!
|
I have 7. I think that puts me in first place?
|
With this weeks mail im up to 31 which includes this beauty thanks to trobba for the deal
