Boss Schmidt
 

Charles "Boss" Schmidt was the starting Catcher for Detroit (1906 - 1911).

A fair number of 1910 COUPON subjects are SOVEREIGN 350 "NO-PRINTS".
But, Boss Schmidt is one guy that is featured in both of these sets.

Toy Town Hallman.

Bill Hallman, outfielder, had a 21 season career, only four of which were in the majors.

His career started in 1894 with the Philadelphia Colts of the Pennsylvania State Lg., and finished in 1914 Bridgeport (CT) Crossmen of the Eastern Assoc.

He played many years in the AA American Assoc. But, in 1897 he played for the Bloomsburg Blue Jays of the Central Pennsylvania Lg., which was an F Division League................. I never knew there was an F Division .......... :rolleyes:

Bill Grahame pitched for the St Louis AL (1908 - 1910).

Art Fletcher
 

Art Fletcher started off as a utility infielder for the NY Giants in 1909. Art was quite a character and a fan favorite. John McGraw was impressed with
his play and made Art their regular Shortstop in 1911. Art was an excellent fielder and played Shortstop till he retired in 1922.
Then in 1926, Miller Huggins persuaded Fletcher to take a coaching job with the NY Yankees. Art was the Yankees 3rd base coach from 1926 - 1945.

The last two survivors from the T206 set were Paddy Livingston (d. 9/19/1977) and Hall of Famer Rube Marquard (d. 6/1/1980). Featured in the attached photograph during their playing days, it is interesting to note that because they each played in different leagues at this time, this photo was probably taken during the 1911 World Series.

Ironically Livingston did not participate in the World Series, at least not on the field. Moreover, while Marquard was a rising star of the National League – the 24-year old Marquard started two games for the Giants in the 1911 World Series, recording 8 strikeouts over 11.2 innings pitched and an ERA of 1.54 – Livingston was not a particularly noteworthy player for the World Champion Athletics – he hit just .239 over 71 at bats for the A’s that season and did not play in the World Series.

It is thus curious to wonder why a photographer would decide to capture their photograph together. It is almost as if the photographer held the key to the players’ longevity – that somehow he knew that these two players would be the last surviving members of the legendary T206 set.

Jack Hayden's first day in the Major Leagues (April 26, 1901) was the first game for the new franchise, the Philadelphia A's.
Hayden was the leadoff hitter, and what an honor for this Pennsylvanian....the 1st player in Athletics history to come to bat.

George Moriarty was a utility fielder in Major League (1903 - 1916) playing for the Chicago Cubs, New York Highlanders, Detroit Tigers
and Chicago White Sox. Afterward he was a Major League Umpire and a Manager (Detroit 1927-1928) till 1940.

Furthermore, George Moriarty was the grandfather of TV & Movies actor Michael Moriarty. You may remember him as the Pitcher in the
1973 baseball movie "Bang the Drum Slowly".

famous Civil War General by his father, who was a Union soldier during the America's Civil War.

It's not him Ted he's on the recent list.

I used a checklist I found posted on the internet (don't remember from where) which I copied then removed all the HOF and SL from it. I either got a little crazy with the elimination (early on Pat already caught me on one SL I forgot to eliminate), or perhaps my checklist was incomplete...
