Only $28.00, and a really good price, I think. It has a little bit of back damage which might've made potential bidders take a pass on it, but in my experience it's pretty tough to come by in any condition, and I would've been kicking myself if I had missed the opportunity.

Fourth time was the charm, as I missed out or was outbid on three other Kranepools in the last couple of years. Also snagged the Jenkins. Now 110/150. Only 40 to go.

This doesn't happen everyday! I had purchased what would become the PSA 3 about 1 1/2 years ago, and was just never impressed with it enough to send in for grading. After hunting for a better example and finally giving up, I relented and submitted it with a free voucher that I still had so I could use it in my registry set. About 3 days after I sent it a good friend offered me the PSA 3.5 that he had just upgraded, I of course jumped on it, thinking mine was probably only going to be a 2 or possibly 2.5. My son is now very happy as he has inherited my PSA 3 for his collection.

Wow that's awesome, congratulations! While both technical grades are correct, I don't need to tell you that the eye appeal is much greater on the 3.5 !

Bought a lot of 47 1964 Venezuelans a couple of weeks ago with the idea that I'd keep some and resell the rest. Here are the 15 I decided to keep. Scans are from my brand new Epson V550. Lol you'll see me point that out a few times. I'm psyched about the scanner.

I'm starting to get into these, I got a couple of nice lots of 1962-1964 Yankees. I get that Beckett is a "guide" but how out of touch are their prices on these? VG and up copies are especially off, NRMT '62's book $20? I'll take any that anyone has for that every day of the week. From what I see on Ebay they basically don't exist over EX.
Most of mine are PR-G, got them in lots. The '62's were about $5 each and the '64's were a steal at $2.50 each including a Berra and a Maris. |
99.999% of VZs are gonna be PR-G, but, to me, that's what's so cool about them. I wouldn't trust beckett, or anyone else who attempts to price them out. It's a buyers market for sure, because they just aren't in demand, which is great for guys like you and me. I will say, if you are ever looking for a particular card, be patient. I can't tell you how many good VZs I've attained at a low price because I waited.
I collected the entire run of Braves VZ base cards, took me about two years. It was incredibly fun, and I enjoy looking at them, flaws and all. Also, join Yahoo's VZ group. I was able to make some deals on some VZs through there. Good luck! |

Love this card. Sharp corners, centered; clean back.
Hairline crease in lower left corner likely responsible for the PSA 2 grade. But otherwise gorgeous. Attachment 302958 Attachment 302959 |

Man, that Tony Conigliaro is NICE! Your right, that’s a great pickup for your PC.
Also, the NL HRL card is sharp. Love the players pictured and the terrific condition and eye appeal of the card. |

Venezuelan Pirates
I have long collected Pittsburgh Pirates 1960's issues, and more recently the Topps Venezuelans. In going back thru my "archives", I came up with two 1966 Jim Pagliaroni #33 cards that appear to have the typical Venezuelan backs, i.e. bright orange as opposed to the more toned down USA version. However these cards appear to be in strong NrMT condition, which I guess would be unusual for the Venezuelan issue. I have no idea where I got these cards, as they have been my collection for many years. Question: Are there any other Topps variations that might account for the different color back, or can I safely assume that these are really NrMT Venezuelan cards? I have checked the PSA Population Report, and would consider submitting these cards for grading if I was sure of their origin.

Here are photos of the card I refer to in my previous post. Front is glossy with white borders typical of regular Topps issue. Back sure looks Venezuelan to me. Any ideas?

Looks like a Venezuelan

Have you seen any others with the white border and glossy front?

Picked this up for a song. I just couldn't pass it up. Now the question is, which one of my two do I sell?

1977 Question
I have a 1977 Topps Venezuelan George Brett RB. Had it for years. Remember buying it from a guy selling pretty much all Venezuelan cards and paid a fair but not ridiculous price at the time. While I've collected Brett cards for years, I'm by no means an expert on Venezuelan Stickers and have always wondered about the authenticity. Two questions for the experts here:
1) Any thoughts on authenticity? I haven't heard much about fakes on these but not my area of expertise. It measures right and it's on appropriately thin paper stock. 2) If I wanted to get it graded (for authenticity only, obviously the condition isn't great), which company would be best to do that? Appreciate any thoughts. Images below. https://i.imgur.com/dMsKfoJ.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/wHzrOPe.jpg?1 |
Unlike the 1972 Venezuelan Topps Stickers which were heavily counterfeited, I have never heard of a 1977 Venezuelan Topps Sticker that was fake.
|
PSA has already graded 18 of that card. With their player set registry, I'm not sure why you would pick any other company.
|
Looks good
as best as can tell from a scan. Was the person you bought it from John Rumierz (might have spelled the last name wrong)? Definitely PSA for grading (and WOW do I hate saying that).
|
Sweet Brett! My latest Venie addition is below. Didn't scan the back, but no paper loss.
