Trench made at least seven dated 1954 Indians pennants that describe them as AL Champs …

I'm sure this one has been discussed previously though I don't recall. This has to be one of the earliest "Officially Licensed" pennants out there.

A few new pennants arrived today.
The Cubs Power is autographed by Ron Santo and Billy Williams. The sigs aren't authenticated but I was more interested in the pennant than the autos. |

Thanks guys. Rob, I now consider the autos authenticated. :)
I have another Cub Power on the way with the single Ernie Banks photo. That'll be full set of the Cub Power Photo pennants. |

Not a big football pennant guy but today gives me an excuse to post my two favorites, both are cloth, with the nod going to the Niners for the design and vivid colors.
|
I’ll go so far as to say, the 49ers pennant is among the 4-5 coolest looking pennants made by Trench in any sport.
I have a couple other versions of this pennant where the cloth isn’t faded but the design colors are all washed out. |
Hey, pennant guys

I’d agree the Niners is more attractive but “Go Get 'em Rams” is pretty funny.
Maybe FB Rob has a Chiefs/Bengals duo to share. |

The closest I can get to the Rams is a 49ers pennant in Rams colors. I need to take a new pick with the red and gold added to the group. Thanks to Rams fan Rob for sending most of these (3 of 5) my way.

With regard to today's game, I always liked these two... https://www.ebay.com/itm/38374654295...MAAOSwCj9fdUFu https://www.ebay.com/itm/31359697994...gAAOSw0uNg56dM Love that rarer version of the Prospector, Erik (and very jealous)... but GO RAMS! |
Regarding the other game... here are couple of sweet ones...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/38470482323...QAAOSwF0Vh9H05 (tough to find rare/unique Bengals pennants) https://www.ebay.com/itm/25521729337...EAAOSwTV1hfxMo I sold mine (mint condition with no corner chip) for $90 a few years back. One of many dumb transactions I'd like to forget. So.... Go Bengals! |
A nice Chiefs pennant just sold cheap (with a small blemish) that had the rarer white accents in the graphic … seems to be much harder to find. And yes the Rams must have been stored away, the colors are great. The blue cloth in general fades do easy.

Oh it was a “regular” version, I should have mentioned that….
|
I can’t fathom how you non-team specific guys navigate ebay. I usually get about 400 results when searching just “san francisco giants pennant.” It does look like there’s some good stuff out there.

Even with that, I am scrolling endlessly over worthless pennants. Maybe one per every hundred gets my interest. And of those select few, 90% can be ruled out immediately because they're overpriced. My patience for doing this has run thin, but I have snagged 4-5 good ones over the past month. |

I have no why idea I did not start here.......jeeze I must be getting old. Wanted to see what you's guys's thoughts were on this. Got it at an auction with a wide variety of stuff (estate sale?) This was last summer, maybe August. The lot had about 35 pennants (I was going for an 8-8-88 Wrigely Field first night game)
Low and behold this was in there as well. Thoughts? Price range? I've read the last 3-4 pages of this thread and if this is real I may have lucked out....... :D Also, you should seeeeeeeee some of these pennants if this is real b/c I'm pretty sure they're all real, and they're spectacular  (I'll post additional pics if you guys think this is the real deal) |

It’s the real deal. Let’s see what else you got!

Whatcha got!!! (part 1)
10 Attachment(s)
Thanks everyone. Sorry I didn't get to this yesterday.
A little backstory, so I won pretty much all these in a single "lot" last summer from an online auction (not a major sports one, like a retail online one that sales literally everything, state by state). I think to get it shipped and everything I paid roughly $80 - $90 range and this was well before shipping starting to get more expensive, so maybe like $100 +/- total. I'm going to start with the minor league stuff, then the "MLB teams other than the Yankees", and close with "odds and ends" (Part 1) There is enough to do a Part 2 with just the Yankees, so I will follow up with that momentarily. I have a few question about a couple of these as well, but we'll get to that a little later. Sincere thanks for any and all help, in way over my head here..... |
Whatcha got!!!! (Part 2, the Yankee years)

Part 2 as promised.....:D
(Very curious about the last one) |
Nice haul for $100. If the intent is to sell, should be pretty easy to at least triple your investment...if you're really patient more.
|
Willis Wildkats? How random. That high school, from a pretty small Texas town, is about 10 minutes from my house. Funny how things move around the country.

Apologies on the delay
|
I think really the key feature here is that these "cloth" pennants feature a woven fabric, as seen in this close-up photo; whereas the traditional pennant features a felted fabric.
Felted fabrics aren't woven; rather, they're made by taking millions of wool or polyester fibers, rolling them flat under great pressure, then curing the flattened result with a heat or water treatment to bind everything in place. That's why, if you examine an old felt pennant up close, its composition would look random--nothing like these woven ones. That's also why, when you cut woven fabric, the threads along the leading edge quickly loosen (because the interlocking of the threads has been broken, which is what binds that type of material together), leading to frayed edges. That doesn't happen with felted fabric. |
Cloth > Felt in my opinion
Love the look of a smooth, unfaded 1950s cloth pennant. Also harder to find without paint cracking. Now the question is … when were the first cloth pennants made? The 1954 WS pennant made by the mystery NYC area company seems to be the oldest dated cloth pennant. I also have a 3/4 Browns Keezer in cloth … |

Here are two recent pickups. I'm generally mixed on autographed pennants, but like Vida Blue on the Giants. He was one of their best players when I first became a fan. The Bees pennant is from 1984, which I can tell because it is signed by a future Japanese HOFer (Kim Kudoh). I've posted about these Bees teams elsewhere, I think. In a nutshell, they were horrible, but they had a bunch of players who went on to play for the Seibu Lions, and they became a powerhouse in Japan. Kind of cool.
|
You had that pennant ^^^^ without an autograph, didn’t you?

I have a few versions of the Giants pennant. This happens to be the first with a white spine... but I really liked the Vida Blue addition (and thanks to Erik for making this one available to me).
As Rob and Erik already know, the pennant also came with this pennant-shaped menu, which clearly identifies the Giants as the rightful 1979 World Champions. |
Really nice Giants pennant. That has to be a tough one to find. They finished 20 games under .500 and in 4th place so wishful thinking I guess.

Well, if Oooribay doesn't have it, you know it is tough to find.
This cloth Oilers just arrived. I have 2 or 3 copies of this, but they are all somewhat browned due to age. This one is blue as can be. My picture doesn't do it justice. And, related to our discussion about cloth/woven pennants... one easy way to tell us to hold them up to the light. I know Greg likes cloth pennants. Waiting for him to start on a single bar cloth run : ) |
Luv ya, blue! :p

Never noticed this before. Full size Keezer Packers pennant made it into the Super Bowl I highlight film.

The mini of that Packers pennant just sold for about $800. Wonder how much a full size would cost?

That series of mini pennants is the only one remotely interesting to me and judging from the prices, I'm not the only one. |

Looks great to me (aside from it being the Niners :D).

A Giants collecting buddy came over a couple of days ago. He had this 3/4 size, spineless pennant. Up until recently I had never seen the LH batter and bridge pennant in a 3/4 size. This one is even smaller than the one I had. Stitch holes confirm that it used to have a spine. My buddy is not really a "pennant guy." Friend that I am, I gave him ten bucks for it. :p
|
You sir, are a kind and generous soul.

I know we all have a disdain for minis, but this photo was identified as a "1952 Topps display." What Giants pennant is this (right side)? The graphics look kind of similar to this orange one.
|
If any of you have any insight into my Topps/Bazooka post, please share!
|
Is that a vintage photo or a modern recreation of a topps display? I never envisioned a store or vendor in 1952 having that many boxes of cards for sale. Where would he be selling those?

By the 1960s there was a similar promo set offered by Bazooka; however, that set had "Bazooka" inscribed on the front. Here's the Brooklyn one seen in your picture, up close, measuring about 14" in length. |

Just noticed that the 49ers miner on the Keezer mini pennant is very similar to this transfer decal, suggesting that Keezer made it too?
What all/else did Keezer make? |
Some very sharp looking and unique pennants
Love the thread keep them coming |
