You will be happy to hear that I love that! What are the dimensions? Doug |

Also, not that it matters but it is Stall and Dean and not Dean and Stall as I first mentioned it in my original post |

This is also a metal piece (similar as the scoreboard) that I have owned for a few years. The condition is off the charts for an outdoor sign with the original flange. Size is 18" x 14"

Love advertising and basketball
1 Attachment(s)
I only show up here maybe once per year but I love the thread on advertising. As a vintage basketball collector it is VERY hard to find advertising as it was not a nationally popular sport really until maybe the 80's. I have maybe over 100 but here are a few as I don't see anyone posting basketball. Enjoy and I am very poor at posting so I hope this works.

more advertising basketball...

More, don't want to bore you but maybe have 75 more including the earliest known player endorsed ad.

Some fantastic signed everyone has posted.
Here is one I just found again. Came from Ken Smith's personal collection which was sold back in the 1980s. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4cce54e4_b.jpg |

Toronto Maple leafs First Stanley Cup Ad

Winning the cup brings many extras. This VI-Tone ad is an example. Team loaded with Hall of Famers. And Conn Smyth is the Coach. Happy that items like this are still affordable.

For all you T205 enthusiasts, picked this Honest Long Cut Tobacco advertisement up a few days ago. Measures a whopping 21" x 29" in its original frame.

Amazing stuff everyone! That Basketball Wall is a true labor of love. Must've taken many years to put that together.
Here's a recent pickup for me. Finally nailed down one of the Lucky Strikes.... |
awesome pick up mark!

Awesome

It's great when people post items showing players many of us may not know much about, so it sends us immediately to Wikipedia to get a (hopefully non-biased) look at the guy's career and life. Today, it was Harry Heilmann. Pretty frickin' cool.
And great piece!!!! |
Thank you fellas! :)
Heilmann is a top-tier HOFer. It probably limited his popularity with collectors, having his career squished between the T206 and Goudy eras... with no cards in either set. Poor Harry! |
Great pickup, Mark! :D:cool:
|
Quote:
I didn’t realize until just now that Heilmann… A. Hit .403 one year, and had .393, .394 and .398 seasons as well (leading the AL each of those years) B. Spent his last 2 years with the Reds. An under-appreciated HOFer! |
Lucky Strike
Congrats Mark, its a gorgeous version from this set

One of my Favorite post war LS posters 16x20. Mylar gives it à dull apperance. But this poster pops.
Second poster has been with me since 1977 When I bought it off a music store wall. |

New Nolan Ryan promo display pickups
3 Attachment(s)
Not super old, but I recently picked up a couple of Nolan Ryan promo displays from the 1990's that somehow had eluded me through the years.
I can't believe I still can find new collectible items like these nearly 30 years later...;) The 1st is a Ryan Coke Career Series poster promo from 1993. This was offered to me by another net54 member. Fresh and never assembled! The 2nd was a 1992 Chevron Gas promotion which advertised Nolan Ryan glass tumblers for $.99. The Chevron employee pinback for the same promo is also very cool. |
Awesome pickups, Scott!
Those are both pristine and very eye-catching. Great additions to your unparalleled Nolan Ryan collection! |
Man, All those Nolan items are very cool…

Very Nice Scott!

Thanks guys! It's fun finding things like this after so many years of looking.

1970s Armour Meats Special Baseball Offer
4 Attachment(s)
Here is one you do not see very often from Armour Meats, which I believe is from the 1970s. The display measures 13.5 In by 10 In. It has two identical sides with a basedball in the middle wrapped in cellophane. Not sure but maybe it was hung from a ceiling and you could see it from different sides. There are no holes in it though. Both sides are the same. Anyway, 4 HoF players are included on the facsimile ball you would mail in for with a $1. I have never seen this before. Has anyone seen it and can you tell me the year? I am a huge Brooks fan, which was my interest in the display.
Thank you and happy collecting. |
Show Off Your Advertising Signs
JF Hillerich & Son advertisement from 1915 featuring Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Tris Speaker, Nap Lajoie and Frank Baker. One of my favorite items in my collection and I have never seen another one.

These are just two of perhaps a dozen varieties that were found. All are circa 1950s, but these are two of the better ones, IMHO. They are indeed posters that were used to promote Louisville Slugger products at retail stores. They are printed on thin paper stock, but are legit, and are not ads removed from magazines. If the OP holds on to them a while longer, I would think they'd go up in price. The subject matter is great and they're not making any new ones! |
Quote:
I kind of like it in that frame. It really pops, but eager to see what you have done with it. Have you removed it yet? Curious to know if there's an easel on the back, and how they mounted it to the existing mat (tape, adhesive, etc.) Hopefully it comes out clean, and congrats on a monumental pickup! |

I believe I posted this previously but here it is again...This riding school was across from Fenway Park…I picked it up because Harvard played the Red Sox in the first ever game at Fenway in 1912…The locker rooms weren’t completed and Harvard had to change at this school for the game… https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/vTv8Ld.png https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/VyY6kH.jpg |

Nolan Ryan 1984 Gulfpride Oil Rebate Promo POP Display
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a great local pickup that I'm very excited about.
This is a really tough Nolan Ryan Gulfpride Oil rebate promo POP display from 1984. I've had the tear-off rebate coupons for years, but have never had the opportunity to add the actual advertising POP display until now. It only took 39 years to locate one. Go figure... ;) Welcome aboard!:D |
