I enjoyed reading and catching up on this thread....it has been awhile. It does seem that more collectors are starting to enjoy the significant challenge of collecting Venies.

Grabbed this off ebay recently, my first auto'ed Venezuelan.

Heads up to everyone, there's a new listing up on Ebay for a 67 Retirado Koufax, that was cracked from a PSA 1 case. It looks like there was a mark of paper loss on the front in the PSA case, and the mark has now been cleaned up... possibly "restored/conserved". Just a friendly heads up.
New listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Topps-...y/372890615564 Listing in a PSA case: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-1967-T...-/274091340012 |
Koufax
Definitely looks like the same card but is it possible that the front “spot” could be extra paper that was taken off instead of being colored in or “restored”?
Rick |
I believe
both sellers are members here.
|
Yeah I sent a message to the current seller, asking what happened with the front surface. He said it was additional paper on the front (as opposed to paper loss), and that the extra bit of paper stuck to the psa case when it was cracked.

I've only been collecting Venezuelans for about a year, so I don't have a great idea of the market for the super high-end cards, but I was shocked by this price. Worth noting, the highest bidder has zero feedback. |
I don’t have the best eye for this, but it looks trimmed to me. Would also explain why somebody wouldn’t have it graded for resale.
|
Yeah it certainly looks to be small, based on the amount of border showing. I don't own very many 68's, so don't know if that's common among that set.

Looks like a fake to me too. 68’s have a gray stock and that picture makes it look like it has white paper stock. And really someone with zero feedback that’s the first card you bid on cries hanky panky. When it first came up I thought it looked short also.
He also has a 52 mantle for sale it’s at $8 for those of you that think it’s real like this card. Rick |
Someone trying to capitalize!

Too bad - he's a good seller, but is pretty frequently overpriced - Sure he saw the one we have been talking about to price his. His looks a bit short l/r also - anyone have experience if that is common for the issue? |
Didn't even notice that!

Sorry for the basic question, which may have been answered somewhere in here already. Do all 1959 Venezuelan cards have the "IMPRESO EN VENEZUELA POR BENCO C.A" line in them? Or is it some do, some don't?

I just completed a type run of the Vennie's with a 59 cream Impreza back I just picked up. Very interesting issues for the decade they were issued.
|
Can someone enlighten me as to why the 1977 Venezuela Nolan Ryan carries a price premium over all others in the same set? It doesn't seem to be any more scarce, even by PSA counts (even though I know it is likely submitted more frequently than lesser players).
Just thought I would get input from the experts around here. |
I have 10 Braves cards from the 64 Venz set I'm looking to trade or sell. If anyone wants details, either pm me here or email: dbesse27@hotmail.com

Hello all, I have been collecting 68 Venezuela now for about a year with distance intentions of completing the set in PSA 2 or above. I am curious as to what to do with this Nolan. Do you all think it will get MK for that mark on the back left side or should I just keep it in this grade? I don't want qualifiers and plan on keeping it for the collection. This is the highest SGC on file (there are only 3 of them total). Thank you and looking forward to getting to know you all.

Well if it helps, I don’t have him either. I figured trying to complete this set will take me several years, just happened to pull the trigger on the Nolan early. Think it’s a PSA 2 NQ?
|
I'm not into graded cards so I can't answer your question, but someone who sent in 1972 Venezuelans to PSA told me that they automatically graded them 1-Poor if they have any glue or paper residue from being removed from an album. It looks like your Ryan/Koosman has residue from being removed from an album, but I don't know how they would consider it on a 1968 Venezuelan card versus a 1972 Venezuelan sticker/stamp.
|
It's a nice card
The glue on the back is a PSA wildcard. Just not comfortable speculating what they might do with it grade wise. It's a nice looking card and an easy sell (when the day comes) with that clean a front and at least an evenly "glued" back with no paper loss. You could always send it in and pop it out of the holder if PSA doesn't give it a 2.
Several years would be an accomplishment - some of the mid and high #'s are INSANE to find at all in any condition. I am working on a Venezuelan superstar collection for about 20 years now. |
Thank you for the replies, he ships out tomorrow for PSA. I put 2 minimum and NQ. I hope that’s not too much to ask. Considering what it costs to get it done, I can’t imagine I will have a lot of opportunity to resend it back to them for grading. I have accumulated over 200 of the set of which 45 are graded 2 and above. This card would be a nice one to have as a 2!
|
You shouldn't get hit with an MK qualifier for the glue on the back. As Howard mentioned, there's no paper loss, which is great. In my experience, paper loss gets penalized more than glue residue stuck to the card. i wouldn't be surprised at all if it got a 2.
Great looking card regardless of the grade. Good luck, and be sure to share the results here. |
2 it is!

Hey folks,
Been lurking and looking at all the amazing stuff folks have. Really great stuff here! I’m newer to the Venezuelans, but like y’all I’m hooked. Got a couple back in the mail today that I wanted to share with you fine folks. Looking forward to seeing more great cards! Dan |
Nice cards! My Lonborg is at PSA as we speak but it won't be as high as yours, thats a real nice example. I also dont have the Drysdale, he is a little high on eBay. Welcome

Got this in from Tampa Bay today. Very excited!

Venezuelans to trade
I too am interested in building sets for the Venezuelan issues. Mine are generally in LOW grade, especially the backs damaged from being glued into albums. I have hundreds of low grade 1964s and 1966s to swap for my needs. Especially interested in making progress on 1962 & 1968. My want & have lists are:

1964 Vens Near Set
Hi All,
I recently put up my 1964 set on Mile High in case you're interested: https://www.milehighcardco.com/1964_...-LOT71376.aspx |
Bumping this old thread to try to get some Venny discussions going! Anyone working on sets, or want to post any big pickups from this year?
Here's a few favs from a recent PSA order: https://i.ibb.co/K0YcqR9/PXL-20241216-193751190.jpg https://i.ibb.co/P66Pxdv/PXL-20241216-193824038.jpg https://i.ibb.co/xmpbksf/PXL-20241216-193947394.jpg https://i.ibb.co/pJ5xsJ9/PXL-20241216-200750027.jpg https://i.ibb.co/khwShjr/PXL-20241216-200804935.jpg https://i.ibb.co/Yp9CnCv/PXL-20241216-200822465.jpg https://i.ibb.co/yh74Cf8/PXL-20241216-200847661.jpg |
Picked up the last couple I needed this year to finish the whole run so haven’t been buying much anymore. Will pick up 59 cream backs if they are reasonable. Moving on to the next sets.

Those are some Beauties Nicolo!!
Congrats Rick - One heck of an accomplishment! I finished up my Pirates team set run from 1959-1968 - 1967 Maury Wills was the last one and a BEAST of a card to find!! Paid stupid $$ just to get it to wrap up that project. In addition to the Pirates team sets, I have a Venezuelan "superstar and rookie" collection - realized this year I am missing a 1967 Aaron :( I upgraded my 59 Mantle from a PSA 2 (which is now available if anyone is looking) to an SGC 3.5. Also picked up and have available a PSA 1.5 1972 Ryan stamp that will leave you shaking your head at the grade when you see it. |
Nicolo:
Those are blazers, great looking cards. Howard: Congrats on the Pirates run, that's awesome. I had no idea the Maury Wills 67 so was tough, I just added that my want list :) I landed a 67 Aaron last year, I way overpaid for an SGC A. I'm still patiently waiting to add a 67 Bob Gibson. Here's my 67 Aaron: https://i.ibb.co/K0kLKn2/PXL-20231228-021414772.jpg |

Not nearly as impressive as any of your accomplishments, but I did finish my 1968 World Series run! Always looking for upgrades, but happy to have it, especially that Yaz!
Have a bunch of extra high grade HOF and Retirado if anyone is hunting. Dan |

Thanks!!!
I have the Aaron all star from 68, but not the base. |

So funny that this thread would have just been picked up again - I stumbled on the original 2015 thread a few months ago having known very little about Venz. I'm nearly complete with the full Senators Bowman / Topps / Fleer runs from '48 to '74, so to have found these issuances has been a really fun project.
Ended up down a rabbit hole and connected with a Net54 member who got me off to a great start, and picked up some from eBay. Figured I'd grab a few dupes where they were easy as trade opportunities. Here's where I'm at by set, if anyone has anything they are willing to trade or sell, please let me know! Thanks for bringing this back to life! VZ Senators Run - 38 of 91 '59 Topps VZ: 6/12 (need: 4, 33, 74, 78, 93, 116) '60 Topps VZ: 1/12 (need: 9, 43, 56, 76, 87, 99, 114, 123, 136, 175, 193) '62 Topps VZ: 1/7 (need: 42, 51, 79, 90, 125, 152) '64 Topps VZ: 12/17 (need: 46, 52, 134, 167, 343) '66 Topps VZ: 6/18 (need: 46, 77, 95, 149, 165, 194, 211, 251, 274, 294, 351, 369) '67 Topps VZ: 2/8 (need: 139, 176, 188, 201, 243, 289) '68 Topps VZ: 10/17 (need: 6, 31, 49, 66, 131, 231, 268) |

I don’t - especially the VZ issuances, this feels like a completion challenge and not a PSA set registry adventure! Would be super interested in any you may have.
