The collection of "Ortopedia Díaz" 1949 cards is not common, they are rare, very few collectors have any, in my Specialized Catalog I detail them together with the well-known and little-known ones, now I show the Album cover, and the Raymond Dandridge card.

1949 Acebo Premiums
Roland,
You had earlier posted a picture of an 1949 Acebo Premium with the following comment Now I am sending you from the Newton Estape 1949 collection the # 59 of Quincy Trouppe, it appears in Volume 2 of my Cuban printed catalogs, I have several things that I will send you later, when you see the photo you will let us know, this collection is of 111 photos measure 8 x 10 inches. I was curious how these Premiums were distributed if the smaller cards were distributed in boxes of matches. How did one get a beautiful 8 x 10 photo? |
Scott
Newton Stape was a photography company, and they photographed the players of the professional teams. I think these 8x10 photos were given to clients who visited the studio to have their photographs taken. In the case of the Acebo Matches, I think they paid Newton Stape for the rights to print that collection for your matchboxes.
|
Thank you for the response, Rolando.
Quick question though: These premiums are numbered out of 111 (the Trouppe card for instance is #59). You don’t think that in 1949-50, Acebo had an offer whereby customers could redeem a certain number of coupons, matchbooks, or cards in order to receive one of the 8x10 photo premiums from either Acebo or Newton Estape? Quicker follow-up: should these premiums be regarded then as baseball card premiums or merely baseball photos? |
Scott
Maybe so, but I am not aware of that, I have not found anything written about it, if in the future I read something that is related I will let you know.

Any opinions regarding which of these is correct? Nig Clarke was a catcher; Danny Clark was not. Wikipedia has the image used to make this card as Danny Clark's picture.

I would think it is Nig Clarke. BR lists Nig Clarke as having caught and pinch-hit for Habana in the Cuban Winter League in the 1923-24 season, but does not list Danny Clark as having ever played in the Cuban Winter League.

Roland: On the "Danny Clarck" card, are you saying you think that is actually Danny Clark's image, or is it Nig Clarke's image?
|
I don't have photos of Danny Clark or Jay or Nig Clarke, what I know is that Clark always appears in different statistics, maybe you have photos of the two and you can make the comparison and know which of the two is the one that played that year, then Let me know, greetings.
