What a fun thread! I recently picked up this folio of Fatima ads. I'd say circa 1920. Eight ads mounted onto pretty stiff cardboard and bound. Also a pretty large Sovereign ad.
Jon - great, K-bats piece! Congrats! Tony - great Pirate fan. What an oddball piece! |

Excited to pick this up. After a lot of searching, I believe this may be the correct packaging for "Punch" cigarettes. The pack below has a full 1912 tax stamp, so also makes it period.

Topps Counter Display - 1950

Jerry
Can you share a ballpark price on that Topps gum grouping? I've resisted selling mine for the past 20 years although I managed to sell enough pieces out of the box to pay for the whole thing :-) Neat piece....
|
Lots of great stuff there. I love that the Topps gum is marked 1 cent each, or 5 for 5 cents. Gotta love a discount for buying in bulk.

The size is approx. 13" x 17" and while missing the tri-fold piece on the back and someone put a hole in the center to hang the ad is otherwise in great shape.

You're lucky I was in the casino longer than anticipated and slept the El Principe piece..... :-) Nice one.....

btw Tony
based on your pictures - it appears you are a bit more feminine than I imagined............

Here are a couple of more Croft & Allen related items that I've managed to pick up in the last year or so.

One other recent (and interesting) pick-up. Below is a shipping crate from Drum granulated tobacco. As many are probably aware, Drum tobacco was a companion piece to Drum cigarettes (which contained T206 and T205 backed cards), both being made by the American Tobacco Company. The great thing about this shipping crate is that many years ago, someone made the box into a cabinet. I thought it was too cool to pass up. Note that the drawers are also from Drum tobacco crates.
Below for reference (they are not mine) is Leon's old counter top display, and a Drum tobacco pouch. |

Well, this might be one of my favorite purchases ever. I love the Polar Bear countertop displays, but this is the first time I've ever seen an original shipping crate. Crazy that this stuff survives for 100+ years! Also, note the size... it's huge.

Jon- that is freaking great.

Jon I was watching that too. Congratulations on a great piece.

This is the bookend piece to Scott's earlier post. The contrast is interesting--Scott's is in pristine condition. This one, as seen, is well loved and handled--with various attachments (Ramly labels) and printing throughout. As seen in the bottom right, no love given to future HOFer Harry Hooper, with his name misspelled as Hopper. In both cases, the clarity of the photo is incredible, not only with the team but the spectators as well.

That Ramly piece is amazing. Thank you for sharing it......

Hi Tony
Your EPDG advertisement is absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for posting it. TED Z . |
I figured this is as good of a place as any to ask the board to keep a lookout for the Polar Bear crate I posted above. It was shipped on November 30 from Ohio, and made it the following day to Mount Olive, NJ where it disappeared. UPS has been "searching" for the crate since December 1 (it weighs 65 lbs and was shipped in a custom-made plywood container on a pallet, so I'm not sure how UPS "lost" the item, but apparently they did). Sad to think this piece may be lost forever, but in the off chance anyone happens to see it somewhere, please let me know.

I hope I don't get laughed out of this thread, with what I have to offer. However, I had the chance to go thru a chest of family members stuff, that had been sealed up since the late 50s. It was mostly WWI, and WWII militaria from my ggreat grandfathers, and grandfather. I admit, that I wanted to rummage thru these boxes, hoping to find baseball cards..but my mom warned me up front..that she didn't think any of her relatives collected sports cards...and none of them that she remembered had ever smoked. It didn't stop me from searching. I've spent the last few days going thru the boxes, and there is some AMAZING war items. A lot of really good/collectible war memoribilia, from letters, postcards, and medals to roadmaps and Nazi pistols, flags, and daggers. Really some interesting stuff, and jhave had a great time learning about my families past.
But at the end of the day..no tobacco baseball cards. Or baseball cards of any kind really. Pretty bummed. However...there were a ton of advertising cards, of sort. Soap, Coffee, cologne etc.... There were about 50 cards in all, from different years ranging from about 1890 to the mid1940s. Nothing really stuck out to me, as having a reason to be valuable..so I just snapped a pic of a handful to share. Once again..don't laugh... but any comments are welcome, and if some reason, theres something there that's worth a small fortune..please let me know. :) http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sdfumw7el.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sqehdeduh.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...stxn0vfht.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sprapjn4t.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sfmhkshwo.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sqehdeduh.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sbjzullwc.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...se3ghhetn.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...skitjaysh.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...szmgoa6i5.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...s9moybare.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...svock8ekh.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...s83wvvsbq.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sgxli08wm.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sniqdct4y.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sj0pjec0o.jpeg http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/q...sn98hqyp7.jpeg |
Laugh you off the board? No way! Thats awesome...we all wish we could rummage through an old trunk locked up from the 1950s. You didnt find baseball stuff but still discovered some really cool stuff! Congrats :)

In a neat little Antique shop in Oklahoma last week, I found this Plow Boy Tobacco tin. It's 6" high and 5" in diameter and contained 12 oz. of tobacco.
It's pretty clean for a 100+ year old tobacco tin. I'm not sure if the circa of this Tin is 1910 - 1912. But, I'm sure Jon C. (or any one else) on this forum can identify the year(s). http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...acco Tin50.jpg We just returned home and I haven't had a chance to photograph it. So for now, the scan of this round object on a flat screen will have to do. TED Z . |
Nice Plow Boy tin Ted. Thanks for sharing...
Here's a unique item. Seems it's one side of a Cracker Jack shipping crate that once transported the caramel treat. Very large in size measuring 33" x 9". Etched into the wood underneath the Cracker Jack name is their infamous slogan, "The more you eat, the more you want". I plan on having a small wooden vintage frame made for it and display it as is. http://photos.imageevent.com/threetw...ge/cjwood1.JPG http://photos.imageevent.com/threetw...ge/cjwood2.JPG http://photos.imageevent.com/threetw...ge/cjwood3.JPG |

As I continue to clear out my grandmothers attic, I am finding new and interesting things. I have yet to find any vintage baseball cards, but it doesn't stop me from remaining hopeful. Yesterday, I stumbled across a large cardboard box, that belonged to my great godmother. She was an elementary school teacher, and this box looked as if it were "teaching curriculum" for an entire school year. (Maybe 3rd grade?) Almost everuything in the box was dated anywhere between 1938 to 1943. There were interesting pictures, and cardboard cutouts for decoration, etc...but at the bottom of the box, in two small envelopes were 3 sets of Arm&Hammer bird cards. they are in awesome shape!!! I know that these do not hold much value, and aren't all that highly saught after....it still gives me hope that there is still something there. Either way, thought Id share pics of the Arm&Hammer cards. There are (2) complete series 8 sets, and one series 3 set. I'm guessing from somewhere around 1935?
