I worked as an air traffic controller USAF four years and then 29 years with the FAA. Mandatory retirement forced me out at age 57 (should have been age 56 but I was able to get extended). So I've been retired for five years and I don't miss working even one bit:D

Nuclear Plant worker here.
In year 34 and plan on retiring within the next couple, or less? I worked 6 years on construction pouring concrete (hard work!) helping to build the place and got into the operations part of it in early 89. For those that are wondering, it is nothing like the Simpson's, at least the plant I work at isn't. :D |

And Jeff, my next door neighbor is an ER doctor......that would be an interesting profession.. |

Production Manager for about 20 years.
I'm a second/third shift Production Manager for Rogers Foam Corporation located in Somerville, MA where I live. I started as a production worker 32 years ago and never left. We don't make foam, we fabricate foam product into all different shapes and sizes for thousands of different uses from packaging for missiles, rollers for printers or buffing pads for waxing your car. I enjoy my job very much as it varies with the different types of jobs that come in. Never the same thing day in and day out. Always new challenges as new products are developed. I also love my commute as it is a 10-15 minute walk every day regardless of traffic or weather conditions.
Thanks to all for their military service, they are our true heroes. Donato |

That is the first time I have heard "interesting" be inferred with "actuary".:) If she has questions I may reach out to you. I have tried to teach her, and it is my belief, that one's income/pay will usually be relative to how many people can fill your shoes. The fewer the better...Thanks much for the generous offer... |

Actually, our plant looked to have about double that in the pics. I needed the rod busters once as my path down the wall we were pouring changed as the concrete came up. Only happened once as I was far more cautious/aware of my surroundings after that! :D |

I am constantly fascinated and impressed by the variety of careers described in this thread.
My own accomplishments have been meager by comparison. Last July 4, I posted the following: I really never knew what I was doing when I was doing it... ...and I am so glad to not be doing whatever it was any more. Retirement is a good fit for me...just wish I was healthier so I could really enjoy it. For all of you that served our country, my sincere thanks and appreciation! -Raymond - I will add to that by admitting that the larger part of my 'adult' life I spent between being a semipro LHP and struggling college student and trying to use retail management to make all that work. When retail management finally took it's toll on my body, I pursued a position in computer programming, which led me to monitoring incoming financial data for system cohesion for a large third-party credit-card processor (but, they have apps for that now). After leaving that position, I worked for a time processing claims for the Duck (ALAC) and finally tried my hand at tax processing with H&R Block. I retired, or rather, gave up looking for work, when I inherited enough money to live on. My biggest joy these days, aside from my adorable little dog and even more than the BBCs, is being as much of a philanthropist as I can be. I am now enjoying 'Retirement' after my hip replacement surgery. - |
Project Manager for a union electrical contractor. I'm also a card holding union electrician.

Mine's more boring than you guys. Commercial pest control. Been doing it for 20 years this August. Before that I was a 911 dispatcher. Just one of those jobs you fall into rather than one you seek.

I do a lot of stuff around the world of graphic design. I've worked as an illustrator, graphic designer, then web designer-developer, and finally as an art director in the corporate world over the course of about 15 years. I left that gig and have been self-employed as a contractor/freelancer plying all those disciplines for the last 12. I'm currently aspiring to add 'food photographer' to my resume.

I sold my employment service a month ago
So for the time being I'm just selling cards until I find something else to do.
