It's Friday and I'm off of work so I'll keep the thread going...

By the way I really don't like the standup and don't have it displayed, but it did have Brooks on it so I did pick it up years ago. I guess I display it in the closet.

AND I can't get the picture straight!

ooo-ribay 09-15-2017 04:57 PM

OMG! Great 80s haircut; great 80s beer (which is back and I drink :p )

I didn't mention it before, but I really like the Tony Oliva AAA poster ad. "Almost" makes me want to be a Twins fan.

This thread is fantastic! I love advertising pieces, my collection is mostly 70's to 90's. Here are a few of my favorites:

yankeesjetsfan 09-19-2017 08:03 AM

Mark, Stunning Cracker Jack piece.

Abe, love those 70's pieces. That Lew Alcindor one may be my favorite of the bunch. I believe there is a Walt Frazier one also. I'd love to get my hands on it.

Mike

deeg23 09-19-2017 09:26 AM

That Gary Carter Brooks ad is top notch 👌🏼

deeg23 09-19-2017 09:27 AM

That's what I love about advertising. So many great pieces come up that I never knew existed! Sweet stuff everybody!

Here are some more of mine. It stinks that somebody had JSA slap their sticker on the front of the Panasonic display, but what can ya do. Lastly, I need to round out my post with a modern one 😏 Every shoe collector's dream... the display that went with the shoe on release day!

While I like all the ads you posted I especially like the Carter Brooks shoe ad, what a great poster setup, and the Staubach piece which just screams of a different era.

I enjoy '70's through '90's; keep 'em coming...

Derek,

Of course the Brooks Rawlings is my favorite (mine's on pg. 5; no auto). If you ever get tired of the poster ad let me know.

Gotta love the Reggie ads!

Michael,

You're killing me with these great pieces. The color on that Marathon ad is fantastic; love it!

Ripken

Small Rip ad.

ruth-gehrig 09-19-2017 06:45 PM

Thanks Mark! If you have never seen the Marathon beer sign up close, the green background is made of felt. I don't know if their other signs were made similarly or not but on a baseball themed sign it resembles freshly cut stadium grass :)

yankeesjetsfan 09-20-2017 08:02 AM

Derek, I am in awe of your Reggie pieces and am currently drooling on my keyboard.

Mike

kid4hof03 09-20-2017 08:31 AM

Hey Derek, I owned both of those Reggie items at one time! If you ever want to let go of the Reggie bar piece let me know, that's one of the few pieces I've ever sold that I really miss.

kid4hof03 09-20-2017 08:32 AM

Thanks for the kind words guys. I will post a few more tonight, I've got a lot of Gary Carter ad posters and displays as well as a few more Staubach's.

stone193 09-20-2017 11:52 AM

I enjoyed viewing everyone's ad pieces!

Mine are pretty much easy to attain.

The Helmar is a recent pickup.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...mtl3grswps.jpg

The Turkey Red and Egyptienne Straights are favorites of mine.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...89od6d2ci6.jpg

I couldn't resist the Pabst display since it went really cheap - no one wanted it - think I paid 24 bucks for it. And, again, another favorite - the Piedmont chair.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...u3otwrtnc6.jpg

I had closeups of these on photo bucket - a real friend to collectors - so I'm gonna have to find another way to post in the future where a web doesn't "host" them.

stone193 09-20-2017 12:34 PM

A few more

This one is a 'double sided' die cut heavy stock cardboard and a favorite with the Yanks fans.

I've seen these a few times, but this one was especially pristine so the bidding was heavy - I remembering thinking I "paid too much for this!"

https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...slljdxzzp.jpeg

https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...8m95qok7q.jpeg

and here's a Helmar cardboard sign - the white doesn't "blue" with a black light, so we know it's earlier than the 50s.

Here are a few more of mine:

yankeesjetsfan 09-20-2017 03:05 PM

Mike, my jaw hit the floor when I saw that Yankees Knickerbockers Ad. Owning anything Knickerbockers related to the Yankees is a dream because they were both owned by the same owner, Col. Jacob Ruppert. Plus it looks to be in fantastic shape.

Abe,

Love those Bernie Williams ads.

I have often thought about trying to pry an ad off when I see a Yankees one in the subways, train stations or buses, lol.

Mike

kid4hof03 09-20-2017 03:25 PM

Mike, I actually have a few old subway posters, they are huge so I haven't been able to display them yet, will dig some out to take pictures at some point. I agree with you though, every time I see a cool advertising piece I try to figure out how to get my hands on it!

ksfarmboy 09-20-2017 04:11 PM

I need one of those Brooks Robinson Rawlings posters. Those are fantastic!

I've never seen the particular Marathon sign. When I saw the item it reminded me of a picture of Brooks from the '70 WS taken by Mort Tadder. It was the first WS played on artificial surface (astroturf) at the new Riverfront Stadium. The picture I took doesn't do it justice, but it has a cool looking background. Unsure why some of these pictures are sideways; sorry.

Thanx to Abe also.

Hiya Mike - I agree!

This item came out of a NY dealer - I've never seen one in this kind of shape - don't remember what I paid, but I'll bet it was in the 300 buck range for sure.

And, (edit), I just looked up the auction invoice online - it was a whopping $393!

I guess I must've wanted it bad - it was back in 2010.

Enjoyed all of the items you pictured. Would love to see the room you have going on there. Looks really neat and organized (unlike my room). By the way, what color did you use for the walls? I have a grayish wall, but that looks even better.

Hiya Mark

I'm in the middle of finishing up a room in the back and then reorganizing the front office.

The back - waiting for the flooring to come in.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...5dlql9pddd.jpg

Instead of blinds, shutters painted the same as the wall is going it - so as not to distract from the shelving.

I don't have a lot of pics of the front office right now - it's really in a temporary state - I have GU bats and jerseys - and haven't decided what I'm going to do with them yet?

https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads...dlka311v01.jpg

I checked the bottle of left over paint from the painter: it's Sherwin Williams Kaffee 6104 - it's a dark brown color; the back room is a dark beige color.

I just got this back from the U of W Husky Hall of Fame, where it has been displayed since 2002. They made a quality full sized copy for the display and gave me back the original. It is around 2 1/2 x 3 feet on thick board.

Go Dawgs!

Mike, that set up is going to look pretty nice once it's all done.

Mike,

Both rooms look amazing (even w/o the flooring in the one room). I like how the colors contrast really well. I'm trying to do something similar in my room/den. I used to have pictures all over the place covering every square inch; now I'm doing it where it's a bit more organized and somewhat professional looking. It's still a little cluttered in areas, but it's definitely better. Would love to see the room after it's finished and all of those built-ins and shelves have display pieces.

Hi Mark,

The sign is from 1926. Glad you like it!

Here's another cool early U of W football item, a pillowcase with the original price tag from The Bon Marche (now Macy's for you non-Seattleites) still attached.

Not really an "advertising sign", sorry kids

I forgot about this little survivor. It has a blow out on the seam. Anyone know a balloon restorer? :p

"Bye Bye Baby" was Russ Hodges' home run call and later made into the Giants Fight Song; a cheesey little ditty akin to "Meet the Mets." In the Giants' last season at Candlestick, "Bye Bye Baby" was incorporated into a lot of their advertising.

The U of W pillowcase is very nice as well. Not as nice as the football piece, but still probably nicer than anything I have 😳

Also, I'd justify this being an advertising piece; it's plugging the school.
