Day 282 – 9 October 2024
Today I am showing a couple 1979 Oriole Pennants. The bottom one mistakenly refers to the Orioles as the World Champions. I attended Game 6 at Memorial Stadium suffering through that miserable loss. The top Pennant I really like with the Pirates and Orioles celebrating the WS.

Day 283 – 10 October 2024
Today I am sharing a few more Oriole Pennants. These are from the 1983 WS Champion Orioles. At the bottom, the Pennant Celebrates the Orioles as the World Champions. The next one, in white Celebrates the 1983 Playoffs between the Orioles and the White Sox, listing both team players names. The middle pennant list the Orioles Players as the World Champs. The Orange Pennant celebrates the WS Champs showing our manager (Joe Altobelli)…always made me sad that Earl Weaver did not get credit for this Championship. The top Pennant is white and lists the players names celebrating the Orioles as the AL Champs and playing in the WS.

Almost done with the Pennants. Today I am showing a few random Pennants I have from the 1960s – 1980s. On the left are two I really like featuring the National Anthem “O” part we all participate in while attending a game with the Orioles. The other ones are from various Playoffs or the Stadium. I really like the “Why Not” 1989 pennant coming off the 1988 107 loss season.

Day 286 – 13 October 2024
For my birthday this year, my daughters set up a meet and greet with one of our newest Orioles, Jackson Holliday. Jackson and I took a picture and he signed a ball. He was very nice, handled himself like someone older, gracious, humble, bigger than I thought and looks as young in person as on TV. We met him at Jimmy’s Seafood in Baltimore. Only half of this post is Vintage…sorry!

Great photo Charlie! I'm hoping that Jackson has a bounce back season in '25.

I was at the game where he got his first MLB hit back in April and after the game the PA announcer gave me the sheet she uses to read the lineups (Holliday singled in the 7th)

Today I am showing you a poster from the late 1960s or early 1970s. The poster is White with Purple and Orange sponsored by National Beer. I have not seen another copy but I do not think it is really rare. I always loved hearing “Charge” and enjoy the Orange and Purple colors.

1969 Rochester Red Wings Bank

1 Attachment(s)
Day 288 – 15 October 2024
Earlier, I showed you a Orioles version of this bank. The one today I am showing you is from 1969. Instead of the Orioles, this is a version from their affiliate minor league club in New York. This is the Rochester Red Wings ceramic coin bank. The banks were issued between 1969-1970 by Wyatt, Dunnigan, and Williams Inc as a customer promo item for various local banks. The minor league versions are very hard to find. I have never seen one before. The Red Wings were the Orioles International League AAA affiliate of the Orioles from 1961-2002. The bank is in great shape and says Bankers Trust Company of Rochester.

Orioles

Some very cool items you’ve been posting. I’m sure it was a great experience meeting Jackson and getting an item signed by him. Also, that’s a great photo of you two.

The Orioles National Beer poster is a nice item especially since it has both the Orange and the Purple colors which was even before the Ravens came to town. Of course the large “CHARGE” adds to the overall aesthetics.

I’ve never seen a Red Wings head bank before. That is very nice and has to be really rare.

Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful collection.

Day 289 – 16 October 2024
I am happy to show my new Brooks Robinson Bobblehead from FOCO part of the Cooperstown Collection. This one shows Brooksie holding a Trophy as the Outstanding WS Player for 1970. At the bottom it has 1970 World Series Most Valuable Player and his name below. On the back it shows the 1970 Orioles Emblem with his stats at the bottom (5 games, 9 hits, 2 HR, 6 RBIs and .429 average) but sadly no mention of his glove work, which was amazing. The bobblehead is numbered on the bottom as 118 of 144 produced.

Hi guys,

We made it to Sarasota for the winter. A lot of tree damage in the area around Ed Smith Stadium, but our apartment escaped any real damage.

Many of you know my love for Orioles minor league affiliate items, especially programs. Unfortunately, the Norfolk Tides and Aberdeen Ironbirds are no longer printing programs for their games. They do have scoresheets available at the games, but they're not the same as a program. The BaySox and Shorebirds still do 6-10 programs per season.

One of my collecting goals is to put together a run of programs from all the Orioles affiliates since 1954.

I know many of you, that follow this thread, are from the Maryland & Virginia areas. I know this is a long shot, but hoping some of you might have some old programs kicking around that you don't mind parting with. I probably have 1500+ different O's minor league programs from 1954-present, but still missing a few from the early 2000's.

Here's a list of teams and dates I need to complete a few runs. I'm willing to purchase, even if you only have one off the list. Probably not much value, except to me. Thanks in advance for any help.

Delmarva Shorebirds

2002 - 4/22, 4/26, 7/1, 7/16
2004 - 7/5

Frederick Keys

2002 - 4/22, 5/21, 6/30, 7/11
2003 - 4/25

Aberdeen ironbirds

2016 - 8/12

Bowie BaySox

2001 - 7/27, 7/31, 8/16
2002 - 4/8, 4/18, 5/6, 5/28, 6/10, 6/24, 7/4, 7/12, 8/12, 8/27
2003 - Issues 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 18, 20
2004 - Issues 2, 3, 4, 5, 13
2005 - Issue 2
2006 - 5/16
2009 - 6/5

Here's some examples of a program from each team. These are small, playbill size, not regular program size.

Recently added some State Plates to my License Plate Collection featuring the Orioles. The additions include the Nebraska “Oriolz” and Kansas “Oriole” plates. I believe I have shown the other ones before that include from the left top small black and orange Orioles plate which is pretty rare, to the right top 1954 Baltimore Orioles plate (this one is pretty rare and very nice), smaller 1966 World Champions plate, It Can be Done in 61 plate (my favorite and impossible to find) and the small Oriole plate, 1983 WS Champions plate and the other two below it. If anyone has any plates they are tired of, give me a yell.

Day 291 – 18 October 2024
I was at the Orioles – Giants game on 18 September 2024 and lucked into this ball. It was the 7th inning and Gunnar Henderson fielded a hard hit ball by the Giants catcher Curt Casali and scopped it up and brilliantly threw it to Ryan O’Hearn on first for the third out in the 4th inning. O’Hearn then threw the ball over the net into the crowd. I had my phone in my hand and stood up and down came the ball into my hand with the phone…I bobbled it but caught it with the other hand as it nearly escaped me. I still have my soft hands like Brooksie I guess. Ha. My daughter was impressed and got some compliments around me. Pretty cool to get a fielded ball by Gunnar. Sadly, we lost 5-3 but had a nice evening despite the loss.

Charlie,

I've been enjoying your Orioles World Series and Playoff programs the last few days. I think it's a shame the Orioles no longer print programs, especially considering they've been in the postseason the last couple years. Programs and tickets are some of the best collectibles from a game.

The 1960's and 70's produced a wide variety of programs during the Playoffs and World Series.

Here's seven additional programs from the 1966 World Series, the edition from Memorial Stadium plus six miscellaneous programs issued by newspapers and others. Most of these aren't too hard to find. The Equitable Trust scorecard is probably the toughest to locate.

1973 Topps Candy Lids Set

3 Attachment(s)
Day 300 – 27 October 2024
As a baseball card / odd ball collector I have tried to collect all sets that Brooks Robinson appears in. That is a crazy task. I have quite a few sets he appears in and have shown some on here (Net54). Today, I am excited to report I completed my 1973 Topps Candy Lids set. This set is a test issue with 55 different players printed on the bottom of a candy lid. This 1 7/8”diameter lid was included with each pack of Topps “Baseball Stars Bubble Gum” part of a small tub of candy-coated gum kernels. Each lid has a pull tab and is unnumbered. These were mainly tested on the East Coast with some light testing in the Midwest. I found Ryan, Munson and Jackson to be the hardest to find. The Mays, too, but surprisingly more available. I will likely upgrade a few still. Included are the 55 lids with my graded Brooks and the Brooks proof graded. Enjoy.

I thought to also share my 1972 7-11 Cup Set. This set includes 60 different cups. The cup features a life like image of the player in color. On the back the cup includes a small biography of the player. The players name and team name are flush to the left on the backside of the cup and that is generally how you know this is the 1972 set. The font is a bit larger on the 1972 cup, too. There are 18 HoF players in this set including Brooks Robinson (Brooks appears 3D row, far right). 21 of the players in the 1972 set will appear in the 1973 set (some are the same while others were modified). The image shows the 60 different cups. I did my best to put them in alphabetical order. It took several attempts to stack these cups. I can still hear the noise they make when the stack of cups collapses. I also included the set checklist.

My final cup set is the 1973 7-11 Cup Set. This set includes 80 different cups. The cup features a life like image of the player in color. On the back of the cup includes a small biography of the player. The bio is centered on the backside of the cup. This set includes 20 players in the hall of fame done mostly in gold and brown with a halo of black stars surrounding the players head. Some of the players in the 1973 set also appeared in the 1972 set. I started to stack these in alphabetical order but failed several times and had to add smaller stacks on both sides. Brooks Robinson appears on lace left, 2nd row, middle. Same photo as 1972. This took several attempts, too. That noise when the fall will never leave my mind! “No cups were hurt during this post!”

Great setup and photo for all your plastic cup collection.

Baltimore Orioles Stadium Signs

Day 307 – 3 November 2024
I thought to show some of my signs. The signs are mostly from Memorial Stadium telling you what section you are in. The larger sign top left hung on a memorial stadium directional sign. On the reverse side is a Colt emblem for the football season. The exit sign is from Memorial Stadium. The “336” sign is from OPACY. I really like the bottom “SEC 37 BB-2” sign from Memorial Stadium.

1969 Transogram Sets with Brooks Robinson

Day 308 – 4 November 2024
In 1969 a small box measuring 4 in. X 3 in. X 1.5 in. with a figurine, card and top panel was sold with MLB baseball players. The manufacturer of the box was Transogram, which started making toys in the early 1900s and was liquidated in 1971 after filing bankruptcy. Back to the box...the box is mostly yellow, the larger card is 2.5 in. X 3.5 in. with a small top panel card. Inside the box is a figurine protected by cellophane with a stadium blue or green background. You can open the top panel, which serves as a lid to pull the figurine out of the box. The figurine is fastened to a cardboard background from the bottom on a plastic base. The figurine represents the likeness of the player with a glove. The catchers are in a catching pose. Most of the other figurines are with the glove appearing to be throwing or fielding. Some slight variations in skin tone can be found, presumably to account for the different races of the players. The figurine bears little resemblance of the player. The team is spelled out on the front of the figurine with the number and name on the back of the jersey. The large card has has the players name and details about the player in black letters to include position, team, HT/WT, batting and throwing side, date and place of birth. The set of boxes include plenty of HoF’ers (Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Mantle, Yaz, Banks, Clemente, Mays, McCovey, Seaver, Gibson, and others). There are 3 Orioles in the 1969 Set (Frank and Brooks {see picture with the boxes, 6th row from top, middle} along with Dave McNally {5th row, second from left}). PSA will grade the folded box without the figurine, larger card and panel. The box was meant to be cut for the larger card. PSA is hard on grading. The large card must be cut outside of the dotted lines while the smaller panel must be cut outside of the black solid line. It is hard to find clean boxes intact without a Kmart or Montgomery Wards price tag on the box or other damage (i.e., creases, cellophane crushed, corner issues or loss of paper). I have been putting this set together for years and can’t seem to find the Tom Seaver (Mets) and Johnny Callison (Phillies). Today, I am showing you 58 of the 60 complete boxes, 58 of the large cards and 58 of the small cards or panels…in both cases I missing Callison and Seaver. I am not showing you each and every cut card and panel but they are there in the photo in my pages. I can’t imagine there are many examples as thorough as I am showing you today. I hope someday to find a Seaver and Callison complete box and the large and small cards to complete this set. I have a lot of extra boxes, cards and panels if anyone has a Callison or Seaver to trade or sell. Hope you enjoy the photos.

Day 309 – 5 November 2024
Today I am showing you my Jay Publishing Brooks Robinson photos from 1958 and 1959. These have been on here before. Will show more in the coming days. In 1958 there were two sets of Jay Publishing photos referred to as Set 1 and Set 2. Brooks only appeared in Set 2. Each set included 12 different photos. Some of the photos or players appear to be the same in each of the two sets but the two sets are generally different. I have the complete Set 1 but missing most of the Set 2. If anyone has a extra Set 2 or Brooks from Set 2, I am interested.

Very happy to add a PSA 7 copy of El Tiante's 1965 Topps RC to my collection as he's named to the HOF ballot. It will be bittersweet if he is finally elected so soon after his passing, but great pitcher, great card, and great character!

It was reported today that former Orioles LHP Don Ferrarese has passed away. Don pitched in 50 games with the Orioles from 1955-1958 (5-11 record) as well as being one of Brooks Robinson's roommates...

Also was the 4th oldest living Oriole at the time of his death (95 years old)

RIP Don:

Both sets include 12 different players and the photos are completely different between the two years. I am looking for an extra of Brooks in each year if anyone has one. I am missing the 1963 Stadium Team Issue Photos which includes 12 players (two players appear with different cropping). If anyone has this set or the Brooks photo, please keep me in mind.

In 2022 I lent the Orioles some pieces for their Camden Yards 30th Anniversary display cases and as a 'thank you' they gave me one of the special logo signs...

Bill, very cool. I always enjoy those displays. I was thinking about approaching the Orioles about Brooks Locker. The way they have it decked out is not that impressive. Recently I noticed they moved the locker closer to the elevators near the trophies. It is not celebrated at all. Thanks for sharing.

I can't picture what the locker looks like off the top of my head, but from what I understand their next big celebration (other than the 30th Anniv. of 2131) will be in 2029 (75th Anniversary)..

I'm sure people who have been to Camden Yards (or Ed Smith Stadium) are familiar with these signs:

Jonathan,

Nice looking postcards. I have a quick question about the Jim Palmer. I think your Palmer might be from 1966, not 1965. The Orioles used the same photo both years, but there's a couple differences.

In 1965, the postcards were 3 1/4" x 5 1/2". The 1966 postcards are 1/4" shorter, 3 1/4" x 5 1/4". Also, the gap above Palmer's hat is a little larger on the 1965. Does your Palmer have a postmark on back?

Your Palmer looks like one of my 1966 Palmer postcards, but could be a new 1965 variation.

Here's my 1965 and two 1966 Jim Palmer postcards for comparison.
