Completely forgot I had this piece. Some type of printer's proof. 1955 Bohemian Baseball is written on the backside

Something about that Hat in the Sweet Caporal Poster looks very X-rated to me. Early form of subliminal advertising?

Regardless, she looks very pleased to be wearing it.

owned 2 of the sweet cap majorette

sold both because I REALLY began to dislike the one I had despite original framing. The second I bought not to punish myself but for resale.

poster looks very nice - I didn't see it in the "before" mode however. Could you post some info about the conservator? At Bill Mastro's suggestion some time in the early 90's I sent Chicago Graphic Restoration company a few things and they did a great job. At this time I am looking for someone else so would appreciate the "share"....

edited to add:

I actually found him once before but he neglected to get back to me. I assume by your comments you are more than happy with the work. Would I view the pricing as competitive? CGC was quite pricey. TX in advance for your reply.

Restoration

“Another” great advertising piece. Now let’s see the room with all these great items displayed!

I mentioned a piece I had, I think earlier in the thread, that I guess is some type of cloth/canvas that has water marks from being outside. Is that something they do or is it restoring paper pieces? Think it just needs to be cleaned, but I don’t want to mess it up since it’s not really that bad

deeg23 10-07-2017 06:31 PM

That Pinch Hit Tobacco poster is top notch!! I remember seeing one a couple of years ago that I keep kicking myself for not bidding on on eBay.

I have never seen one of those Brooks banners, and it is incredible! How big is it? The top portion actually looks very similar to one a dealer has had at the National the past couple of years.

Mark70Z 10-07-2017 07:17 PM

Brooks Robinson banner

It’s rather large and I’m not at home to measure, but an estimate would be about 3’x5’ or something in that range. I believe the one at the National is one of these banners that at some point in time the bottom portion was cut off or possibly had too much damage to the piece. I have seen one other Brooks banner, which I think was the same as mine, since I have been collecting. It likely corresponds to the other Crown advertising piece I pictured earlier in the thread (13). I know there’s a pump display with Unitas pictured as well during the same time frame; unsure if a banner was ever produced.

Hi Henry. I'm glad you liked the work I did for Michael. I'm not sure how I dropped the ball and didn't get back to you. I apologize. I do know that I'm a much better value than the other company you mentioned. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I'd love to talk to you. Thanks

t.tomc 10-07-2017 08:30 PM

Yes Michael, the Pinch Hit was the easiest project I've done for you so far.

Tom,

Do you do fabric as well like I mentioned above? If not do you have any recommendations?

Hi Derek,

I was a tad off on the size. I got the banner out last night to take some pictures and it’s around 3 1/2’ x 7’ so a bit larger then I estimated.

Was that purchased on eBay a few years ago? ... I think I vaguely remember it.

ruth-gehrig 10-10-2017 02:19 PM

Thanks guys!! :) I went back up and posted a before picture of the sign. What a difference
And yes this sign was on ebay a few years ago and was posted by someone who had taken a framed picture apart and discovered this behind it. Unfortunately to get it there someone had to trim the top and right borders for it to fit. At least on the positive side the sign was found and saved and now part of my collection :D

Great sign Michael. Victor was the official supplier of balls and bats to the Federal league in 1914 and 15.

Brooks Banner

While I don’t typically like to revive an older thread I thought I’d share an advertising item I’ve had for many, many years. It’s rough, with mold, water stains, and just plain dirty from likely being displayed outdoors. Since I purchased the item I have always wanted to try and have it worked on to see if it has the potential to look a bit better so I can display the item. So here’s a picture of the item.

Mark70Z 12-12-2017 04:11 PM

Brooks Banner

After seeing some items, specifically in this thread, being restored I decided to make contact with a company that did the restorations, The Art of Restoration. I spoke with Tom Tomc specifically about the item I have and he made suggestions what to do to enhance my advertising piece. I sent the Brooks banner to Tom and I’m so happy I made the choice to get the cloth banner cleaned; just a wonderful job.

If anyone has any items they want cleaned and/or restored I highly recommend Tom for the job.

Nice item. Likely, not many of those left, hence the price. Seller had some interesting baseball/auto advertising items.

Thank everyone for the continued comments on the Cracker Jack sign.

This isn't a full ad piece, but it is one of my favorites. King Kelly was cut out of what must have been a sizable poster (the Kelly is 3" x 5"). Attached is also a scan of a small reproduction of the poster.
