I'm picking Denver over Seattle |
Although I'm out of it, I'm happily picking the Broncos over Seattle

Both teams covered the spread by almost double the points. Congrats to Denver and Seattle! Go Manning! |
Seattle 31 - 20

Personally I'm glad that Crabtree didn't catch the last pass in the end zone as Post #317 (duplicated below) was written and ready to go. I did not have the SF wins post ready yet. I'm am duplicating Post #317 so that it will be near the top of the page for those of you who view the 80 post pages as I do.
17 wolf441 17 barrysloate 17 bobfreedman 17 Runscott 17 mattsey9 17 2dueces 17 bn2cardz I think it is safe assume that all seven leaders will not agree on their Super Bowl picks. They will therefore be divided into two groups, the Seattle group and the Denver group. All seven will be asked to predict the total points scored (both teams) in the Super Bowl. You must pick a different number of points from the other members of your group. First come first serve as far as duplicate picks are concerned. The person in the winning group whose total points guess is closest to the actual total points wins. In the event of an over/under tie in the points guess, under wins. This should do it. If you are not in the top seven you do not need to pick a point total. The also rans are listed below. The biggest loser is still in contention. Finally, you must have made picks for all 11 games to qualify for the last place trophy. :D:D:D I don't know whether to pick before or after hoot-owl. 16 HBroll 16 vintagetoppsguy 16 BlueSky 16 SushiX37 16 PM770 16 ChiSoxFan 16 Jlighter 15 Paul S 15 pawpawdiv9 15 ibuysportsephemera 15 kamikidEFFL 15 EvilKing)) 15 Pythonfactory 15 irishdenny 15 VOLnVEGAS 14 Jason 14 gregr2 14 Gmrson 14 t206fix 14 talkinbaseball 14 rickybulldog50 13 glchen 13 btkpath 13 jcmtiger 13 slipk1068 13 39special 12 Harliduck 12 pariah1107 12 tiger8mush 12 BleedinBlue 12 RGold 12 wheitman 12 freakhappy 11 AndrewJerome 11 Cerberus 11 Mike (18colt) 11 nolemmings 11 itjclarke 11 johnmh71 11 GoldenAge50s 10 bobbvc 10 drmondobueno 10 pgellis 10 peterose4hof 10 rhettyeakley 10 sam majors 10 veloce 10 BamacollectioN 10 ins02 10 Julz24 10 novakir 9 Secgtion103 9 bobbyw8469 9 judsonhamlin 9 JohnP0621 9 Tyler 9 flash300 8 Peter Spaeth 8 yanks12025 8 Fred 6 mybuddyinc 6 D. Not sure what else Fox expected there. Sherman and Crabtree are into it. One as bad as the other with the mouth. Boldin gets in his digs. Sherman makes play, Seahawks win. I'm not even bringing up the Harbaugh/Sherman heat/beef.
If you interview players/people that quickly in the heat of the moment, this can happen. They won, he made the play, talk as much as he wants IMO. But, always remember the line in Unforgiven "we've all got it coming". And in sports that rings true as well. |
Change the name of the big game
Fun Super Bowl fact. This year's Super Bowl features two teams from states that have legalized marijuana. So maybe we need to call this big game the Pot Bowl?:D

50 lol - I picked the only team and total that had already been picked! |
I'm hoping that Richard Sherman pulls a Eugene Robinson during Super Bowl week.
|
Denver
44 points Good luck to the others tied at seventeen. With my pick of Denver after Scott's pick of Seattle, sad to say everybody else is eliminated. |
Denver to win it all.
|
Denver
|
Denver.Just can't bet against Manning right now.
|
Manning directs his Air Assaults with deadly accuracy upon his receivers and hits his targets well. As a Field General ............there are not many better and this is his year.
Go Denver!!! |
Out of it, but picking Denver, for Manning only, 23-20.
|
Denver
|
super bowl
Ill take Denver 27-17

Going with the Broncos ... 58 total points

Seattle 26-24 with M Lynch being the difference.

i say both teams are close to be even...But i edge SEATTLE becasue of defense 28-24
|
although im out of it, id say Denver by at least 10

Out of the points, but I'll guess Denver in a 37-10 blowout.

NFL Playoff Pool Update
Just wanted to add an update regarding the contest.
1. Dropouts - We had 7 dropouts after the second weekend, 15 dropouts after the first weekend and one dropout before the first weekend. That is perfectly okay, but dropouts are no longer listed in the results listing and do not qualify for the last place trophy. 2. Score guessing is permitted, but matters only for those in the Top 7 listed above as explained in the rules. You can hit the final score on the nose, but if you are not in the Top 7, you will win nada, nothing, zippo. 3. This is a Playoff Pool and not a Super Bowl Pool. We have had a couple of folks entering since last night. You must have participated since the Wild Card games to qualify for anything. Now anything may not be much, but I just want to make that clear. 4. I will make an effort to remind the top 7 to submit their entries in plenty of time to qualify, if they do not make the effort spontaneously. In other words I will lead you to the water, its your choice whether you choose to drink it. 5. We started out with more than 20 more entries than last year, but we may finish with fewer. I will spend the next 12 months focused on the contest rules and will consider tweaking them depending on how the previously untested tie-breaker system survives its maiden voyage. 6. Please confine your selections to the two remaining teams: the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos. That should do it for now. |
I know I am out of the running, but picking Denver to go all the way.
|
Hi Bob- I already took Denver with 44 points. If the game ends 24-20, we haven't broken the tie.
You edited it as I was typing. Cool. |
Denver
|
Out of it, but still enjoying the thread :)
Denver 34-17 |
Ending somewhere in the middle?
Denver by 10
I don't really care who wins. Just hope it's a good game that ends before early Monday morning. |
this was fun
I'm going with Denver & the "Omaha" count.
"talkinbaseball" john- |
For revenge sake, I pick Denver
... (though I really think given how closely contested Seattle makes every throw/route, I think several of Peyton's floaters may end up in the hands of Seattle's big and brash DBs). |

Separately- I suspect your CenturyLink experience was much more enjoyable than mine! Can't wait for next year (or the next 4-5 for that matter) and hoping to have a healthy Bowman back by then. |
Hawks!
|
Fantastic job running this Frank! We really appreciate all your hard work!
I'll take Denver 27-23 |
Seattle, 24-23. In a blinding snowstorm, the stadium runs out of beer as all the taps freeze. Meanwhile, the Pirates are getting ready for spring training..... Guess that says where my heart lies...
|
I'm 16 so out of contention, but I'll make a pick anyway:
Seattle 26-24 |

I think this rivalry will be around for a long time - neither owner is stupid enough (ala Jerry Jones) to get rid of coaches of this calibre. But to get these two teams matched up again in the title game, at CLink, takes a lot of things happening right. Glad we saw it when we did. I honestly hope you get to see the same game next year, but in San Francisco, as I'll never be able to afford to go again anyway :) |
so not to be a "drop-out" :)
Denver - total points - 56* * Denver 56 - Seattle 0 (Manning 8 tds). |
Seattle 31 - 28
Go Seahawks!!! |
5-Star lock:
Seattle, by a fg in the final seconds. Total points: 48
|
Chiefs 35 Seahawks 10
|
I will be attending the Super Bowl watching the "best defense" (Seahawks) beat the "best offense". Picked up my tickets yesterday!!!!:D
Will any other net54ers be attending the game? |
An observation and my pick
Who are the "True Believers" in their Super Bowl team pick?
Seattle pickers for the big game have unanimously picked Seattle in all three games. The same is not true of the Denver pickers, many of whom picked the Patriots last weekend. Based on this early data, which is questionably meaningful, I think that on the basis of will alone, that Seattle will win the game. However, since I picked New Orleans to win in Seattle and since I am in the running for the Horse's Ass trophy, my pick for the Super Bowl is DENVER - Go Seahawks |
After much inner debate
Denver 24 Seattle 14 38 No dog in this hunt. Just hope to see a great game to finish the season. Good luck to the 6 other finalists. |
Seattle 24-21

Post-game possibilities?
Amazingly, Erin Andrews had to endure a second straight tirade from a great NFL player, after Peyton Manning's stunning touchdown pass that won Superbowl XLVIII. Manning threw a perfect pass to the back of the end-zone, just over the fingertips of Richard Sherman, and into the hands of Wes Welker. Manning then ran up to Sherman and patted him on the butt. A few moments later, Andrews seemed relaxed as she approached Manning for an interview, but was still taken aback by his surprisingly passionate and somewhat violent tirade when she asked: "Peyton, can you take us through that last play?" "I'll go to Welk EVERY time when he's got one-on-one, I don't care who the corner is. You put a mediocre corner on any of our receivers, that's the result you are going to get. I'm the best quarterback in the NFL and you just saw the result - game over. You don't talk about me or you see what happens." "Who talked about you? uhh....never mind...John, back to you, and could you pass the mustard?" |
My official pick is Denver to win but wouldn't mind if Seattle pulled it out.
Jeff |
I'm out, but Broncos 26-16, just like the Denver/NE game.
|
im out, but id go with Denver, 34-24
|
Just for fun Denver wins 31-20
|
Seattle Seahawks win!
Thank you very much. Another great net54 postseason contest. |
Denver 24-20
|
I guarantee it will be one of two possible teams win this game!
|
Denver by 11.
|
Denver, 30-20

Denver

Seattle, 13-9

We have yet to hear from one of the seven contenders for the grand prize. That would be bn2cardz.
Following directions does not seem to be the forte of the board as the tie breaker point total applies or is required for only the top seven contenders. Nevertheless numerous entrants have entered a score for the Super Bowl. Wasted effort --- Perhaps not. If someone hits the exact outcome of the Super Bowl for both teams on the nose regardless of how many total points they have in the contest, perhaps I can wrestle another shirt out of Leon as a consolation prize. The trophy however will go to one of the seven leaders. Your contest coordinator is always looking out for you.;) |
In that case:
Denver 17 Seattle 13. Thanks for the contest! It was fun till I lost. |
Mired in mediocrity
I'm just bad enough at this to have no shot at winning but too good at this to get the worst prize. Oh well. It will all be worth it if my pick comes through this week.
Broncos And for fun the score will be 27-17 |
Just a prediction:
Hawks - 23 Donkeys - 20 |
Denver 27
Seattle 24 |
Despite the brutal winter we've been having, doesn't look like the weather will be much of a factor. Should be a great game.
|
Seattle 23
Denver 21 |
Broncos
27-24 |
Thanks for the head's up Frank.
Drum Roll please... DRUM ROLL PLEASE.... Anyone? Drum Roll? Come on! Fine! You can lock me in with: Denver wins with 46 total points |
27 Seahawks
24 Broncos |
Trying to get last place. :D
Denver 27 Seattle 24 |
Quote:
You can't. I've got Denver as well and you are a point ahead of me.:D:D:D A reminder though ---- You cannot come in last unless you participate in all eleven games. |
Seattle
|
I'd love to picking the 49ers, but . . .
Seattle.
Bill Heitman |
Niners
Quote:
I officially picked Denver earlier in the thread (payback), but fully think Seattle will win. Their defense is amazing.. and think their DBs are big/strong/fast enough to beat up and keep up with Denvers WRs. |
Seattle wins 20-17
|
Denver 27-20
