Side note. Do you think Lou's parents were having a little fun when naming him? Louis (and) Clark?? Spelling aside, that's pretty funny.

77 Topps 4 cards sheet. On the OPC, Royster is above Brock, on the Topps, Evans is. Also the numbers are different.

1977 6 card sheet. I have no idea why the front scan shrunk the cards.
Honey, I shrunk the cards.... Although, maybe I have the ultra rare front side mini's...... |

In order top row - 1977 OPC, 1977 Topps
Bottom Row - 1977 Venezuela, 1977 Cloth both variations. Let's see if Al has a complete set of 77 Cloth with back variations, or Al, do you know what the variation is? |

1977 printers scrap with a ghost of Lou Brock. It is tough to see it, but at the top the "Cardinals" can be seen and on bottom left the uniform number 20 is easy to see.

I've been crazy busy with work (which I suppose is good....) so missed a few days. Starting off 1978 here is the 6 card panel from Dynamite magazine.

I lost my Internet Explorer browser Wednesday, so have been in computer limbo for some days. Finally figured out how to install Firefox, so here we go again with the Lou Brock thread.
4 card panel, probably shortened up Dynamite magazine panel. |
Dynamite Magazine Topps panels
For some reason, when he was editor of the SCD Standard Catalog, Bob Lemke listed a half dozen or so specific Dynamite magazine panels from the 70s in the Catalog. Since my Topps collecting parameter was anything and everything listed in that Catalog through 1994, I set out to find the listed panels. I think I have found all but one (which is from 1979)
|
I haven't heard Dynamite magazine in 35+ years. Remember getting it in 3rd and 4th grade.

It's been a while. My hard drive crashed and took all the scans with it. Picking up from a week ago, here is the 78 Kellogg, including one still in the package.

Topps 1981 Thirst Break Gum
I finished a set of those, 54 I think. Baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, track and field, fencing and boxing represented. To finish it I bought 2 "unopened" boxes. The figures were on the wrappers around the gum. It was a messy and tedious process to separate the wrappers from that old and turned to goo gum without tearing them...and then to clean the goo off them. I still have some unopened packs if anyone needs one:)

Al - you never answered my question about the variation on the back of the 1977 Cloth stickers.
Here is the 1979 Dynamite magazine, with the cards inside. You need this magazine if you are a Sergio Ferrer master collector. |
[QUOTE=David W;1274404]Al - you never answered my question about the variation on the back of the 1977 Cloth stickers.
Nobody asked me, but every card in the 1977 Topps Cloth Sticker Set has either one asterisk or two asterisks on the back of the card. |
Cliff got it. I am totally unsure why they are like that, or if one is harder to find than the other.
|
Cloth Stickers
I was aware of but had not collected the differences. I think maybe Doug Goodman here collected sets of both. Not sure about Larry S. I know they did the 64 Tattoos with different color wrappers. I just went for a single set of those as well

This is most likely from 1980, as it lists Yaz with 3009 hits, which is what he had after the 1979 season. It is a 45 RPM record. No, I have not played it, I gave my turntable away a couple of years ago.

Exhibit style card only it is 11x14. Not sure of the date, probably late 70's, early 80's. I've got several other players, they included active players at the time, as well as retired players.

Lou Brock odd-ball
I really love the odd-ball stuff that was put out; really neat Lou items. That record is so cool!
Al...what is the '67 piece? |
1967
An ash tray...or now maybe a candy tray :)
|
Somewhat interesting thing about that ashtray/candy tray Al--- it shows both Jack Lamabe and Al Jackson as pitchers. Lamabe was traded to the Redbirds on July 16, 1967 for a player to be named later, who ended up being Al Jackson three months later (10/13/67). Jackson was unceremoniously dumped the day after the World series ended.
|
Trades
That is interesting Todd. That tray always reminds me of two things.....how happy I was by then that we had traded Broglio to the Cubs for Brock :D...and how sad I was immediately when later we traded Carlton to the Phils for Rick Wise:(

I am getting close to finishing up the 60's and 70's oddball stuff I've picked up over the last couple months. Early on I scanned a strip of 3 of these 1964 Transferettes with Brock, Elston, and Schaeffer. I recently picked up a whole sheet of them.

Brock as a Cub
Going back to post # 3, Brock looks unhappy as a Cub. Heck, none of the above Cubs look happy. Kennedy appears to be practicing grin and bear it :)
