Nice Bee Hive! Here's my last pick-up from the Toronto Expo. It's an early 1980's Edmonton Oilers Wood Plaque that I personally had signed by Paul Coffey & Grant Fuhr at the Expo.
Story goes that this plaque originally hung in the ticket office of Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, former home of the Buffalo Sabres! |

That is unique. Great autos to have on it too. I'm going to get up to one of those Toronto expos some day. Can't find good quality early sixties cards here at a fair price. Dealers at shows here who do have hockey seem to think they're holding gold, which they are here, but I think I'd find better options up north. Nice pickup Jeff.
Here's a rare autograph from a guy that played just nine NHL games for the Red Wings. Right up my alley. Unique oddball hockey autos. Tony Licari. Lived to be 99. Got this from Ray here on Net54. Attachment 273289 Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk |
Normally a baseball only guy. I picked up these and some football cards. I am getting the bug to expand into other sports I think.

Here's an original 1976 Canada Cup 3.5" x 5" snapshot photo of Bobby Orr & Ivan Hlinka signed by the two players. This photo was part of a group of photos supplied by Team Canada to the media and comes from the collection of a former sports writer who covered the 1976 Canada Cup Tournament.

Jeff, sweet item there, and rare for sure.

Thanks guys! I just spoke to the seller of the Orr/Hlinka photo on the phone and worked out a deal for 5 more one-of-a-kind signed photos, one is a Vadnais/Orr that is the same as my other photo but has a 1976 postcard back!

I've always wanted a George Mikan Rookie. I decide to fill the void with this 48-49 Exhibit card.
Fits in nicely with my other Mikan cards. Both personally pulled. |
Great cards, Guys!!
Love those Orr/Hockey P/U's, Jeff!! |

Perhaps many unsold stock packets of them survived, but the sheer attractiveness of the photos is off the charts, and would stand out in any Bobby Orr display, I feel. Many of the shots of his teammates are equally good. Thanks for sharing. ---Brian Powell |
That pic really brings home that at the height of his prowess, Orr was really still practically a kid.
|
Thanks for the comments guys! Another cool thing about the photo is the texture. It feels a little bit like very fine sand paper or pebbly if you know what I mean.

My strong feeling for the hefty PSA holder is that it creates massive protection, and the illusion it's a thicker card. The same holds true for the 1914-15 Cracker Jack baseball, which are extremely thin. Ditto the 1954 Wilson Franks. Again, thanks for sharing, JB!:D As an aside, I really admire the photo of Derek Sanderson, "the center of attention", whose contribution to the Big Bad Bruins was immense. The show was on when he and Ed Westfall took the ice to kill one of the many penalties their teammates incurred. ---Brian Powell |

Thanks Dale! Here's something else you might enjoy. It's a beautiful 1955 Type I Photo of Bobby Hull with the St. Catharines Teepees. The following note was hand written on the back, maybe by the photographer:
Lil Bobby Hull - Oct 6/55 Pilous (at the time coached the Teepees - future coach of the Blackhawks) knew he'd make a big splash his first day in TP's camp |

Thanks Tony! I've seen similar photos like that for other teams but not the Racers one with Gretzky.

Nice score. BTW: On Nov. 2, 1978, Mio, Driscoll and Gretzky were traded to the Edmonton Oilers for $700,000 and future considerations.
