My favorite only because I can't find anything else about this book other than from the auction I got it at. Anyone can have a 33 goudey, but not everyone can have an obscure book like this!

My First Ruth - Just Received Today

It was a great mail day today. Given my budget, its the best 33 Goudey I'll likely ever have the opportunity to own. I came across this blog post about the card's history which I hope is true and not just marketing hype: https://blog.justcollect.com/the-onc...and-lou-gehrig

I no longer own this top left corner of a W516-1 Ruth card, but at least it made its way back to the collector with the rest of the card.

I don't know if anyone had posted one of these but these Demaree die cuts have really grown on me.

That 25 Champions Exhibit has got to be one of the best Ruth poses. Awesome.

Ruth
I would love to add an exhibit one day and the other three Goudey's. Not sure how realistic that actaully will ever be though.

You guys have such amazing Ruth cards! I actually have a couple worthless favorites, and even though there are really nice ones here and out there, nothing I really "have to have" .
When I was 10, I opened some 1972 Topps and got an Indians team card. One of my friends would sometimes offer me cards out of his brother's cigar box as trade bait. He was a Yankees collector and I'm sure I was offered my share of Mantles. I had no idea who Mantle was. I got a Babe Ruth card for my Indians card. Years later I replaced the precious card with one in about the same shape.Attachment 567138 Years later I stumbled onto 1962 Venezuelan Ruths. They're not worth much and always in rough shape, but I like this one. By the SGC Report, there's a total of 10 graded. One 3 and One 4 and none better. There's a total of 28 graded at PSA, four 3s and 5 better, nothing better than the one 5. I know there's no demand so no value, but I still like the pose and the story on back. |

Recently picked up this interesting piece. Newspaper cutout puzzle form circa 1933…
https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...RuthPuzzle.jpg Seller thought it was from the 1940s, but the other puzzle he had was of Hitler and referenced him as chancellor (became chancellor of Germany in 1933 and then took the title of Fuhrer in 1934), so I’m guessing ca. 1933. And here’s the solution in the paper the next day. Lucky that he had both items. Never seen one before. https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...leSolution.jpg |
And had posted these on the memorabilia side. From the last Philly show…
1916 M114 Red Sox… https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...92736E2B4.jpeg ca. 1935 Jordan Marsh pin… https://photos.imageevent.com/docpat...beRuthJMfb.jpg |

Here is a new but semi unique Ruth to my Collection.
A 1920 catalog that was printed just before he was traded to the Yankees so he is still in his Boston uniform |
Never seen that puzzle before. Here are a pair of 1961 newspaper features:

Here is my favorite (and only) non-card Babe Ruth item...a newspaper caricature illustration from 1930 or so.

This is a bit off the beaten path, but what the heck. The origin of the pic on his 1973 All-Time RBI Leader card...

Apologies for the partial repost, but when I initially posted to this thread, I only showed one of the two different printings of Babe's Red Sox batting m114. |

Not sure if I posted this one before, it's one of the first 11 m114s that were first advertised in the December 1916 issue of Baseball Magazine... |
Doug - Awesome M114 Supplements of Ruth. What year(s) is the batting version from?

If anybody has any of those issues of Baseball Magazine, I will pay you for scans of the ads. Doug |
Beautiful pieces Doug--thanks for posting them!
|
Doug - can you post an image of what one of the ads looks like that helps you day them, such as your 1916 pitching pose of Ruth?
