Here's one of the Mathewsons. My other is probably my favorite but I'll post the Cycle instead.

That's a very nice Mathewson...it's a card I hope to acquire along with the Wilhelm variation to someday finish off the master set

Sorry to jump ahead, gang. Wanted to get in this Mattern, which is nice for a PB back. This is a good time for anyone to follow-up with a Matty. We all know they're out there. Rob

George McBride
2 Attachment(s)
In retrospect, George McBride had a very surprising nick name. He was known as "Pinch" because of his reputation for being able to hit in the clutch.
How he got that reputation is puzzling because, after playing 16 MLB seasons, McBride ends up having the lowest career batting average of any player with 5,000+ at-bats. Go figure. His defense must have been spectacular (he led the AL in fielding for four straight seasons), but his hitting was rarely excellent, clutch or otherwise. And yet, in 1911, the year his gold-bordered baseball card was issued, "Pinch" produced his best single-season batting average -- .235. Now that's hitting in the clutch. |
Sorry about that . . .

. . . but I screwed up and can't figure out how to change pictures in the original mistake. So here is the proper image (I hope).

After clicking on the Edit button, on the new screen click on the 'Go Advanced' button located at the bottom of the gray frame. On the new screen scroll to the bottom section labeled 'Additional Options' and click on the 'Manage Attachments" button. And you will be able to delete and add images. The 'Go Advanced' button is also used if you ever need to change the title of a thread you created. Brian |
Thanks. That makes sense. I was scared of "advanced". And in a panic to clean up after myself.

Larry McLean
McLean was big & slow, but he could Hit & Throw. He was probably the biggest Catcher ever in BB (6 ft. 5 in., 230 lbs.).
His Major League career spanned 13 years, mostly with Cincinnati (1906 - 1912). He was really loved by the Cinci fans. https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...SweetCap25.jpg . . https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...weetCap25b.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |

This interest in this game has diminished to a "snail's pace".
So it's time to speed it up by proceeding into the"N" group. Here's John Nee https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...5Hassan649.jpg . . https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...Hassan649b.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |

Also, a bonus: Murray, Sovereign, with a vivid color difference on front and back, probably due to an environmental cause like adhesive, heat, and/or moisture. |
Rebel Oakes
Rebel Oakes was quite the "speedster". A left-handed batter, he once laid down a Bunt, and scored in the same play.
The combination of his speed around the bases, an error (or two) by the opposing team resulted in a "Bunt - HR" :) https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...akesT205AB.jpg . https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...kesT205ABb.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |

George Henry Paskert
Dode Paskert with a DRUM back......
April 13, 1911 Phillies vs the Giants at the Polo Grounds, Dode made a spectacular catch which many Baseball historians consider the greatest catch ever in Baseball. In the bottom of the 8th inning, Fred Snodgrass of the Giants smashed a deep line drive into the left-center field gap at the Polo Grounds. It looked for sure to be an inside-the-park Home Run. Dode raced after the drive and at the last moment turned, and dove to the ground, and caught the ball with his bare hand. https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...ertDRUMx25.jpg . . https://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan...rtDRUMx25B.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |
