Jamie, I always love seeing that card. Besides being insanely rare, I truly appreciate it's dead-on registration; creating incredible clarity in his face/eyes.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the kinds words! Happy new year.

So Jamie,
your ty cobb back isn't even in your top seven scarcest red cobb cards, is it?

Jamie Your VICTORY Cobb is sensational......and, " maddening " is in the past, this card stays with you :) My favorite Cobb for several reasons is the elusive SOVEREIGN 460. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...CobbSGCx50.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...obbSGCx50b.jpg TED Z T206 Reference . |
An absolutely amazing card Jamie.

Cobb, not Cobb
2 Attachment(s)
My best Cobb and my not Cobb. I posted this in the "Let's see some postcards" thread but I thought it would be funny to show it here again (although the joke was one me). I bought this years ago because the seller was sure Cobb was fifth from the left (to be fair, so was I) and I paid for it as if it was him (this was well before ease of online research). Recently I found a clipping of the same photo in the Detroit Free Press from May 8, 1910 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/4581...it-free-press/. The McGraw Tigers were a local independent team but "Cobb" is actually "Anderson, catcher".

Probably largely redundant, but here is my quartet. I acquired three of the four (all but Greenie) on this board, so I want to thank those who made them available.

Only have the one, and almost embarrassed to post it next to these beauties...

Many Victories for a big loss!
Quote:
Some 20 years ago I bought a common player Victory on eBay for a couple hundred. When the seller & I communicated afterward he said he had “a bunch” of Victories. Turned out to be 17 of them including Johnson (pitching), with back damage, and the Cobb you now have. I bought all 17 for $5k, they were ungraded and the seller lived in New Orleans! I overnighted a cashier’s check. When the seller shipped them to me the USPS lost them for 2 weeks! When I finally got them I took them to the next Chicago Sun Times show to have them graded and Pete Calderon was at the SGC booth & he was blown away by the group. I had sold Pete an e107 Cy Young not long before that (thru eBay as well) but it was our 1st time meeting face to face. I remember picking up the cards a day or 2 later and I couldn’t believe the Cobb only got a 2, besides the paper rub on upper right border it’s a very strong card! Not long after that Pete went on to work at Mastronet and I flipped the group of Victories to Terry Knouse (my ex wife wanted new windows for our house! Doh!). Not long after that I got divorced and the house with the new windows was sold. Too funny yet so sad! Great great card! Much nicer than the other SGC 2 that sold in REA some years later. |
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing!!!! USPS almost losing the nicest Cobb victory back known would have been heart breaking! Man am I happy it turned up :). Great story.

Here is another Cobby. Love the low grade from the "opinionators." http://luckeycards.com/t206cobb.jpg |
how does that get a 1.5?

Great thread. I am very partial to this one:
https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...1%20Cobb_1.jpg I don't know why; I have 'better' Cobbs. I just happen to like it a lot. I got this one recently: https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ries%20120.jpg Only Cobb I recall getting since the original post I made. |

That could be it...
Come to think of it, I think I got this one at about the same time. I had a strip card phase about 15 years ago... https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...0Alexander.jpg |
I’m fairly new to Net54 and am learning so much. This is the card that got me back into vintage baseball a few years ago.
