Yet another to add to the HOF RC collection. The Haines was accompanied by a Fisk RC, too. Thanks again, Phil!

I'm guessing this in reference to the Ruth RPPC in the other thread.

bcbgcbrcb 07-25-2013 03:54 PM

You goi it, Jimi

h2oya311 07-25-2013 07:05 PM

Mulvey

For those still in the dark, the Ruth PC was sold by Probstein...I'm taking a wild guess here and assuming your Mulvey was sold by Probstein as well, given the scan you provided!

h2oya311 07-25-2013 07:26 PM

By the way, nice pick-up Jimi!!

July Pick Ups - Some Postcards

I had some success in the last couple of weeks. The Mullin postcard is from a six postcard set of Mullin produced by Billie Jones, this is the first postcard from this set I've managed to find. The Polo Grounds is a very rare Wilkerson composite postcard. The Sullivan card with advertising from the Morrison Hotel is a dupe if anyone has an interesting postcard to trade.

Been a good month for me. If you haven't dealt with dcost328 and are ok with some back damage, then please look at his collection. He was very pleasant to deal with and shipped the cards immediately.

Jaybird 07-25-2013 07:54 PM

Jim- fantastic Wilkerson. Great pickup.

Sorry, rookie OJ collector here

Instantaneous or near instantaneous photography was widely practiced by the time Old Judge cards were produced but it was far easier to photograph a pseudo-action scene when the ball was suspended as desired.

Sean 07-25-2013 08:18 PM

Jim, that postcard read "compliments of Morrison Hotel and Boston Oyster House."

Aren't they the same ones who produced the Grignon post cards a year earlier?

Here's a nice shot of Lou Criger in 1909. Thanks to a very kind and generous board member. See http://www.sportingoregon.com/p839800559 for more and for a few duplicates I added today, and also click "All The Photos" in the upper left of that page for similar things.

Thank you....I thought I saw a line above the ball but i wasn't sure....

I think it's amazing how clear some of the images are considering they had to stay VERY still or risk blurring the exposure....

Amazing pieces of US history, 125 years old and counting!

I don't collect postcards, but I love these Grignons. I made a run at the complete set in the last REA, but I gave up because I spent so much on something else. But I'd love to get some someday.
Good luck with your collection. :)

Nice pickups Bill. I'm a big T202 fan myself, especially since there are always a lot of really nice lower grade examples out there (1-2's can often present like EX- EXMT), that can be had at relatively low cost.

the 'stache 07-28-2013 04:20 PM

Thank you, Ian. They definitely caught my eye the first time I saw them in the latest Robert Edwards auction catalog. I love the variety that the cards offer. An action shot and two portraits to bookend it makes for a very interesting composition. After I read the player bios on the back, I go to Baseball Reference and Wikipedia to learn more.

I am really enjoying myself. There's this whole untapped world of vintage and pre-war cards for me to explore, and it's completely reinvigorated my passion for the hobby.

Thank you, Eric. I love my scanner. I adjust the levels slightly, but that's all I have to do.

Nice.......blank back? I'll go out on a limb with a wild a$$ guess at the late twenties or early thirties. Dave
