I get pretty happy when these pop up missing pieces. Been slowly picking these up for about 4 years now.. The dismembered die-cuts are a nice cheap 19th century side-project. Thought I would be able to knock off the last 2 that I needed tonight, but got outbid on the Baltimore one. One more to go. Maybe one day I'll upgrade the others to one's with heads.:D

Thanks Sean...there is a minor wrinkle running down the blue.

Toby & Bruce, nice pick-ups!
Many thanks to John D. (& Matt H.) for allowing me to obtain a nice copy of Gaffney. The Kelly was a pick-up from long ago and will have to do until a nicer image surfaces. "Honest John" Gaffney & "Honest John" Kelly were acting as managers in 1887 but both considered to be amongst the best umpires of their time. They were both asked to umpire the 1887 World Championship between Detroit and St. Louis; Gaffney being from the NL, Kelly from the AA. The two umpire system was first tried the year before during the Championship series between Chicago and St. Louis and was deemed a success (one behind the plate, the other behind second base). They both did well throughout the 15 game Championship and received consistent praise by both teams and the press. When Detroit won the Dauvray Cup and associated pins, Gaffney himself would be a recipient. |

Thank you Toby, a fabulous Conway. The back is butchered, but it looks awesome where it counts.
|
Great card Joe, regardless of what the back might look like. Nice pickup.

Nice Conway!

This is the fourth to arrive in the last three days. At this rate... :D

Great cards. Might be the only one I post, my stuff dont really hang with most of the cards on here but I like it. Just started a goal of 100 different type cards of players on St. Louis teams. Only 96 to go.

The Peck & Snyder is new. The trade card is a re-post from earlier in June because they go together being from the same year, 1876.

Wow, that's an old post card!

Nothing flashy, but it was a cheapie, so I figured the '39 Wheaties would make a nice supplement to my rookie collection for Cummings...
And the Chandler stamp. I picked up the full stamp set a while back(right after Leon pointed them out). Just hadn't gotten around to posting it.. |

This beauty came via an OBC compadre in a wager of my Blackhawks against his Red Wings! Not only did Freddie give the Cubs a pennant, he may yet play a part in Chicago's drive for the Stanley Cup as well! We'll miss the Wings in the West next year...always a great game between those two teams!
