You got me on that one do not even know what that card is to be honest everyone calls the other card the Holy grail of football cards. Is that card even a football card??? I would not pay 12500$ for that card even if it is the true holy grail of football cards I love the look of the 1935 card much better.

You also got me on that what is that card? Never even seen one. I know nothing about pre 1935 football cards as you guys can see.

Thanks just finished reading the article very very interesting makes one want to own one...but like I said I would not pay that much for a football card. Do not get me wrong I follow football a lot but like I said only a few select cards I would be willing to pay over 10 000$ for and this is not one of them.

True of course many of us here in Canada are hockey card collectors. ;)

I collected hockey but switched over to lacrosse when I discovered the C60, C59 and C61 Imperial Tobacco series and the fact that some of these lacrosse players also played hockey!

I'm glad I kept reading this thread. First Lacrosse cards I have seen. Very nice.

Paul S 04-18-2013 09:59 AM

Well, there go a few more cards off the market. :)

Zone91 04-18-2013 10:04 AM

Paul S

What cards do you mean mine or the rare football cards (my cards are not rare enough to make them impossible for others to find one if they really wanted to buy one....maybe only the Old Judge card that is it)? I have NO intention of buying that football for 12500$.

Adrian, I don't know what I meant. I have a sketchy track record. All I know is I'm suddenly investing in football. :)

Hahahaha now that was funny!!!!:)

I mean if ever football cards pick up momentum those 2 cards shown here by other members will probably be worth a small fortune...but still I will have to pass just can't spend that kind of money on a football card.

joeadcock 04-18-2013 10:50 AM

I must say Adrian, never seen anyone answer as many times in one thread. Its different. Personal answer to everyone's comments.

I am very sociable and enjoy answering here....some would say making conversation!!!:)

I know it disturbs some but others seem to like to talk and get into the conversation....that is what is important in the end is it not.

A page out of Jim Crandell's book. :D The lost art of thread-hosting.

joeadcock 04-18-2013 11:25 AM

Agreed....to Adrian's comment back

Al, off-center notwithstanding, that is the nicest Mantle I've seen.

Hahaha I know but will start with this one for now....as you know 15 000$ is a lot of money.

pawpawdiv9 04-18-2013 12:21 PM

Since this thread is popular....Besides REA & Heritage...What others are open?
So many auctions at once. sure there be a deal to have. Talking about competition.

Perfect, thanks Ian. Feel great about it. It still has eye appeal, didn't necessarily buy it for the flip.

Runscott 04-18-2013 01:05 PM

Mantle was a switch-hitter, so your collection will not be complete until you pick up this variation:

You posted this in another thread, I forget what it was...

Needless to say, when I saw this, I laughed as hard as I've laughed in years. It works on oh so many levels.

When I was a little boy, maybe 7 or 8 years old, once in a while my dad would humor me and we would hang out by the player entrance/exit after games at Shea. One day after a Mets/Pirates game (and a Pirates win), Mike LaValliere walked out, and even as a kid I knew who he was. Mind you, it was not because of his prowess on the field, but because of how he looked. I addressed him as Mr. LaValliere and asked him to sign my ball, and he looked me dead in the eye and said he doesn't sign autographs for anyone and just kept walking. Class act.

I believe it originated on CU.

What a chump. Thanks for the insight.. I'll never look at "Spanky" the same again

Should have "fixed" the NY emblem on the hat too.

Sorry, I just wanted to be involved in this EPIC thread.

Hardly fair Peter. Jim had a great collection, knew an awful lot about cards, had something to share, and didn't post inane bs on a daily basis.

DOH!!!

I'll put that on my project list. But for now I have to go see what else Adrian has purchased since last I checked. Since he's starting new threads for each day's acquisitions, it's tough to stay abreast of things ...

HOW DO I GET OUT OF HERE !?!?!?!

This dude's the exact perfect combination of Peter Chao and Marshall Barkman. He might not bring his cards with him wherever he goes, but you know what he always brings? The NOIZE!

Ryan! Where have you been - Did you fall in a sinkhole?

(signing off before I get accused of posting too much.)

Ryan,

The Chao & Lichtman exchanges were some of my favorite threads! 9,066 Views...I thought I missed something epic going on.

MattyC 04-21-2013 11:28 AM

This thread got me thinking: if I ever become a seller, I will start branding my items "THE HOLY GRAIL OF 'X.'" Seems to work like a charm. Imagine...

1988 Donruss Rated Rookie Gary Thurman, PSA 3

This specimen is quite simply the only one in the world at this tier. A true rarity in the hobby, and The Holy Grail to collectors of epic bust prospects.

Opening bid: $7000

ElCabron 04-22-2013 10:18 AM

Scott,

I guess falling into a sinkhole is one way of describing it. But the divorce is almost finalized now. Ba-zing!
