Very nice
Nice Dukie Dewey! I have never seen that one. How cool is it that the sig is close to the same spot?
Here is my Duke example. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbddiinrz.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...psjolxgyld.jpg |
Thanks, Ben. I almost didn't get it because of the signature. Then I slapped myself.
Love your Snider portrait. |

nice
mybestbretts,
Great Georgy...very crisp and clear. Man... he was rough around the edges earlier in his career. HA! Here are a couple more Ruth's of mine I found pictures of. The 1927 one with big baseball is silly but I likey. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...psz6rjswg2.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2pnnxqgi.jpg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...srwciyqrw.jpeg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...scy7kwo9q.jpeg http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...sqelqsdpy.jpeg Ben |
photo's used for cards
Wonderful Ben, as always .....What a collection!!!
|
Wow! I enjoyed catching up on this thread tonight.
Ben, it is jaw dropping to see so many in one collection! I admire your focus on this niche. I'm curious, are the matching cards part of your collection too, or do you just obtain the images to show which card the photo was used for? Great photos (and cards). Thanks to everyone for sharing. |

Not a baseball photo used for a baseball card, but a basketball photo used for a basketball pocket schedule. When I saw this thread, it motivated me to find the photo used for my Syracuse 1979-80 Pocket Schedule with Roosevelt Bowie and Louis Orr on the cover, which I did. Being from Syracuse, this was pretty cool to find. BTW, great stuff in this thread. I especially like the Brooks Robinson Photo (big fan) used for his Rookie Card. Thanks for this thread!

Figured these go together.
Branca 50 and 51 Bowman. Not sure what the photo is. Team issue or what. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/870/2...c59bd698aa.jpghttps://farm1.staticflickr.com/907/2...4225127082.jpg |
My latest pickup

I never could understand what the heck kind of ensemble The Babe was wearing on that card, and now I know that Topps just did a horrendous job colorizing the photo, making his suit jacket lapels become part of his light blue shirt.

This one just sold for over $4,000 (not my photo nor my card...unfortunately)

Love of the Game will have a large section of photos used for cards, excited for everyone to see! |
This thread is getting too great. Let me bring it down a notch. :D
Sisler Callahan and a crispy 1938 restrike Cobby Callahan/T202. Wish I could afford a Type 1 of the latter! https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1757/...9079f47e_c.jpghttps://farm2.staticflickr.com/1727/...fb67a1b2_o.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4626/...240c932d_c.jpghttps://farm2.staticflickr.com/1735/...4c506421_o.jpg |

Very cool, Jim.
Here's another Callahan, perhaps the rarest. Happy Chandler original photo. And a Rogers Hornsby Topps archives original. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1752/...33a23b5b_z.jpghttps://farm2.staticflickr.com/1731/...26b86708_o.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1750/...e1132c99_z.jpghttps://farm2.staticflickr.com/1750/...bffe2d2bef.jpg |

This is likely THE PHOTO...the very one...that was used for the M114 premium. Paul Thompson photo. http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psjgbfwxia.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psu62bpasd.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps85ojagxn.jpg Both are available for purchase. |

Charles Conlon Type 1 photo of Hod Eller
2 Attachment(s)
Recently I was able to match up this circa 1920-1921 Strip Card of no-hit pitcher Hod Eller with my Charles Conlon Type 1 photo of Eller from 1919-1920.
I recognized the image right away. Not a bad pickup for under $10! |

That's Hilltop Park, not Huntington Grounds, in Conlon's 1904 image of George Winter.

While definitely a more modern feel, I recently picked up (off eBay) the slide used for Cal Ripken's 1993 Leaf Studio card

Interesting. The T-206 Keeler batting pose is based on a 1909 Keeler spring training photo taken by Spooner & Wells in Macon, Georgia.

This is a Bain stamped Photo, dated March 22 1910.........those hands and fingers, the hat and the cocked head are pretty hard to deny. I would love to see that Spooner& Wells photo ? |
