Nice Dukie Dewey! I have never seen that one. How cool is it that the sig is close to the same spot?

Here is my Duke example.

Thanks, Ben. I almost didn't get it because of the signature. Then I slapped myself.

Love your Snider portrait.

mybestbretts,

Great Georgy...very crisp and clear.

Man... he was rough around the edges earlier in his career. HA!

Here are a couple more Ruth's of mine I found pictures of. The 1927 one with big baseball is silly but I likey.

Wonderful Ben, as always .....What a collection!!!

YankeeFan 02-27-2018 11:55 PM

Wow! I enjoyed catching up on this thread tonight.

Ben, it is jaw dropping to see so many in one collection! I admire your focus on this niche. I'm curious, are the matching cards part of your collection too, or do you just obtain the images to show which card the photo was used for?

Great photos (and cards). Thanks to everyone for sharing.

Not a baseball photo used for a baseball card, but a basketball photo used for a basketball pocket schedule. When I saw this thread, it motivated me to find the photo used for my Syracuse 1979-80 Pocket Schedule with Roosevelt Bowie and Louis Orr on the cover, which I did. Being from Syracuse, this was pretty cool to find. BTW, great stuff in this thread. I especially like the Brooks Robinson Photo (big fan) used for his Rookie Card. Thanks for this thread!

I never could understand what the heck kind of ensemble The Babe was wearing on that card, and now I know that Topps just did a horrendous job colorizing the photo, making his suit jacket lapels become part of his light blue shirt.

It sounds like you are a snappy dresser! Ha! I thought I was good at noticing the little things inphotos/images but I definitely missed that one. I am a pretty sure they added a darker shade to his jacket too.

Here is another in my collection... 1928 Thorne used for very scarce card.

Indeed. I was in on it for a while hoping no one else would notice. Obviously someone or someones else noticed. Not sure of its true value so I backed off.

I, unfortunately, didn't win it either. Great images of these early Hof'ers are already tough..but when you add the "card connection" as I call it, prices escalate.

Recently I was able to match up this circa 1920-1921 Strip Card of no-hit pitcher Hod Eller with my Charles Conlon Type 1 photo of Eller from 1919-1920.

I recognized the image right away. Not a bad pickup for under $10!

This is a Bain stamped Photo, dated March 22 1910.........those hands and fingers, the hat and the cocked head are pretty hard to deny. I would love to see that Spooner& Wells photo ?
